Actually, the Major did all the work and they Zinger's tapes. They should get the "good work"

Brian and a few other collectors have mentioned interest in whole collection on DVD.
Take up less room, the menu feature and longer lasting, etc.
Why the Major teaching me how to do it.

Figure still going to keep the tapes for rapid tape and into the mail situations, where the collector rather not wait till a DVD filled.
Won't mention names,
but figure rapid taping better for say the upcoming CentoVetrine soap scene first, then DVD clip later.
Correct Zinger? ;)

One good thing about DVDs for you overseas fellas and Down Under boys.
Know some of you felt bad about the mailing costs and transfer VHS-PAL hassles.

Figure the DVD trading will better assist you in building up your collections without all the hassles.

This Christmas weekend, Comedy Central is having a MadTV marathon. You can go to Comedy Central's website and vote for any episode you want repeatedly. The show had a couple funny and decent scenes, like Stick Chicks and Suddenly Millenium.

Right now, the more or less universal yahoo groups listing for anything that is related to bondage, includes a ton of did sites, etc, as well as a ton of more "mainstream" bdsm groups.
Yahoo doesn't let you list groups afaik.

Tales of the City
I recently watched the two sequel miniseries to "Tales of the City", entitled "More Tales of the City" and "Further Tales of the City", with the hope of discovering the putative bondage scene involving Laura Linney. The latter sequel did have a bondage scene, but it involved another actress. There was no bondage whatsoever for Laura Linney in either miniseries.

I have a Gateway DVD recorder that I am very happy with ($259 when they closed their retail outlets) and I am translating my videotapes on to DVD as fast as I can.
But I got an offer from Direct TV for one of their DVRs for $49 and $4.95 a month and i'm intrigued. Here's my question, which they can't (or won't) answer. Can I get the recorder without their service (and fee) and program it myself? Or is it like pay per view where they unlock something on their end.

No. The DirecTV DVR has a built-in DirecTV tuner, which is compatible only with their service. It wouldn't be operational without the access card, it wouldn't know what to do with a cable signal, etc.

I also can't imagine how they would offer that deal to you without being an active DirecTV subscriber.

Many cable operators are offering DVRs at a low monthly fee now: they would replace your existing cable box. There is no up-front fee. That's the cheapest way to go. Failing that, you can grab used TiVos and the like from eBay, though I imagine you're still in the hock for the monthly subscription fee or the "lifetime" charge of $250.

I'm not a soap expert, so have to defer to the knowledgeable ones on the first question.
For the others - from what's in my collection, I'd have to go with Martha Byrne for American soap all time winner for onscreen time - btw: she wins in the hogtie category.
Over all winner and the Champ, of course has to be Angelica Rivera from 'La Duena' if you include foreign soaps - hands down winner here (captive for 4-5 days / full treatment in all!)
For best soap scenes, ANYTHING with Kimberlin Brown from what I've seen - she's quite the expert with playing the villain , MULTIPLE times - all are great scenes and keepers - a REAL nasty and obviously adept at the bondage scenes.
LEAST scenes - 'Y&R' ,although what has been done is top notch.

I'd say Kristian Alfonso has it sewn up for both number of scenes and length (I seem to recall a couple ofthem going on for days).
Second place would go to Marcy Walker on Santa Barbara. Robin Wright got off to a promising start on SB, but tailed off before leaving the show. Her successors in the Kelly Capwell role got back on track (though never tied to the tracks though).

DOOL would be my guess for the most prolific soap.

Probably a question that will remain unresolved due to personal preferences.
I'll give you Kristin Alfonso for the number of scenes possibly, but she definitely qualifies in my book as one of the 'lamest' DiD actresses around - who's to judge?

DOOL also has the greatest number of scenes technically, but some (most?) are SO bad as to be written off - AND I MEAN PATHETIC!

DOOL had the Emmy Borden character bound for many days. It was an alternating day story line but I think it was more than five days long. Gagged, un gagged, regagged, ect, ect, ect.

The Elaina Decker character from Texas was kidnapped and kept tied up for a very long time. Not much gag time though.

And of course the Laura Harring scene from Sunset Beach went on for quit a while.

I'm not a fanatical fan of Alfonso, though I do appreciate her scenes. I wouldn't consider either her or fellow DOOL mega-DiD Deirdre Hall to be top-notch actors (in the sense that Martha Byrne is), but they are both great over-the-top performers who manage to put real gusto into their DiD-scenes.
This is a quality I find more essential to a DiD scene than technical proficiency. I've been a soap fan for a couple of decades, but not for any riveting storylines or Emmy-caliber acting.
Also, Alfonso and Hall are attractive women, which has always been the primary factor of my DiD enjoyment.

Martha Byrne may be one of the finest actresses on soaps, but I find her quite physically unappealing (always thought her to be very frumpy) and hence have not enjoyed her scenes.

As you say, it's personal preference.

She can be hot when she wants to be.

The hogtie scene was overly ambitious, as she was wearing a skirt when it started. That lasted one day, then she was wearing pants. Don't underestimate the length or content of that scene -- it lasted for weeks, with onscreen tying and gagging, at least one escape followed by retying, etc.

Also, ATWT has given us scenes with Meg Ryan and Marisa Tomei, among others. DOOL may turn to bondage frequently, but the ATWT scenes are usually better.

I think I wouldn't call this one personal preference, but fact.
Great scenes, great emoting, et al.
She was cute back then (still had a little bit of her babyfat-not a bad thing), but she is hotter than hell now and still getting better.

A lot of spam lately, but some excellent pix.

One problem with Groups running a lot of video clips is that, the larger the membership, the less likely you are ever to see any clip, because the bandwidth allowance is almost permanently exceeded.

My experience with over 500 Yhaoo groups is just the opposite.

The smaller the membership the harder it is to see a clip.

I rarely have any problems viewing clips in the groups with membership over two thousand, or so, and very few 'not aithorized' in groups with around a thousand members.

Several group owners have posted that Yhaoo increases download capacity as membership increases.

First TV Soap DID
I think this was dicussed before, and the consenus was that the only way we could identify a possible earliest TV soap scene would be for the baby boomer dinosaurs in here to ask thier mothers, since they would have been the ones watching TV soaps back in the 40s and 50s.

Then of course you could always try to identify the first broadcast [radio] soap DID scene ever :-)

Some Database stuff
Due to a change in the way the IMDB lists titles, the Scene Database has also changed. Rather than titles like:

Avengers, The

We now have:

The Avengers

I've updated the entire DB along with the Instructions and Search Hints pages. I changed all foreign ones as well, even though the IMDB hasn't yet done that. Consistency and all that.

All new entries should be made that way. As always, it's best to leave them off for searches anyway.

There are groups in which It's almost never possible to download a clip, and others in which you get one on most attempts.

I rented it.

I would call this movie someone's attempt at a bondage film under the loose pretense of a horror flick.

The plot is basically about this guy who is making a snuff film. He lures actresses in with an ad that more or less says he's making a fake snuff film. Once he gets them restrained, they find out the hard way that it's not a *fake* snuff film.

Seven women get tied up in this movie. Five are gagged. Three are tiied to St. Andrew's crosses, two with hands behind, and two with hands over head. There are two ball gags, two tape gags, one cleave, and one blindfold.

Everyone dies.

A couple of the women (IMO) weren't particularly good-looking. Most of the bondage is too loose, and in one of the hands-behind scenes, I'm certain that there wasn't really anything back there.

The violence wasn't the most graphic I've seen, but I'm betting that's more a lack of funds for special effects than it was discretion on the part of the film's creator.

To me, this movie had very little semblance to a mainstream movie, since it was essentially eight bondage/murder scenes sewn together with a tiny bit of plot.

Bottom line, I think it sucked as a "horror" film, and because of the violence and the loosies, it pretty much sucked as a bondage flick as well.

Sad thing is... it's probably more socially acceptable to make a movie like this, depicting bondage and violence under the pretense that it's a movie about a serial killer, than it is to make straight-up bondage movies like Harmony or FM or Imago does.

Or even that M/F "Erotic bondage" presented in a favorable light in truly mainstream films (e.g., "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down", "Romance", "Secretary") is somehow still considered to be "controversial", rather than perpetuating the anti-social stereotype.
