Gee, I don't know...
...would bondage in mid-19th century American art be considered on-topic here, or would that be stretching things?

The reason I ask is that I happened to come across a news story the other day about the governor of Vermont pulling a John Ashcr-well, I'd better not go there, since politics HAS been declared persona non grata here-and deciding to remove an ornate lamp patterned after a statue of a nude woman from his office. What further piqued my interest-and will no doubt pique yours-is that today another story went on to elaborate that the lamp is modeled after Vermont native Hiram Powers' famous "The Greek Slave" series of sculptures, each of which depicts an unclad female standing with her wrists bound in front with chains or shackles. Powers, according to the story, created six versions of the image from the early 1840s until after the Civil War, and they were said to be popular with the abolitionist movement as symbols of what they were fighting against.

Anyway, the governor is sort of rethinking his options-given that Vermont will celebrate Powers' bicentennial next year, he doesn't want to seem to be acting too rashly-and the lamp won't be banished from the capitol alltogether, but will be moved off his desk. And if you want to see what the fuss is all about, just Google for images using Powers' name and the title of the statue.

Hey, Mr. Moderator, I thought it couldn't hurt. After all, even John Cage generated a little thread here a while back, didn't he?

That was from the music video, and didn't feature any
of the actual contestants.

You can find it on the TBS web site.

The episode "Gone" is the one where Alison is suspended and tape gagged. The WB looks like they saw it fit to skip repeating this episode for now. Last week (12/08) they showed the first episode of the season. Tonight is Episode 3, "Facade", and next is #4 "Devoted". Like I said before, maybe miracles do happen and maybe this episode is repeated later on. If not, Hello DVD (one year later).

Nobody has this? I have it (excellent quality - Tivo, DVD, what's the difference ;), if you want, I'll cap it, just email me and ask. Recorded a ton of stuff this year, haven't been able to watch much of it at all.
Added the db correction for the scene. It starts 30' in w/o commercials.
Just got a quality cap of scarlet letter and defcon 4. Should have kill the scream kind and wild card coming in this week.

Joanna Lumley
I bumped into Joanna Lumley in my local supermarket last night and said a few words to her. I didn't have the nerve to mention her great scene in "Class Act" so I just said something about liking the "New Avengers" and left it at that.

How did she look? She's no spring chicken, and the last few times I've seen her, even with all the makeup tricks they use on TV, she looked pretty rough.

She looked good from a distance but up close she looked pretty old and her face was quite lined.

She's almost 60 so give her a break. Not every older actress can be like Sophia Loren or Joan Collins.

West Coast Alert...Scare Tactics
On tonight's first half hour Scare Tactics on Sci-Fi there is a brief scene. The last 10 minutes there's a segment about a ransom being delivered for a kidnapped blond. She's brought into the room...wrists tied in front, over the mouth gag. One brief close-up and some ok mmmph'ing as she's taken into a back room.

ATWT update
Lucy and Boxer Boy are still cuffed together. Somehow they found an abandoned mine and are taking shelter inside it.

Lucy made a reference today to getting the cuffs off, but Boxer Boy said he wanted to wait -- something about finding some tools to do it right.
