No need to believe that, because it isn't true.

Mary Marvel and Marvel Family collection on ebay.
At the Perils of Mary Batson yahoo group, Mmmalph has brought it to my attention that almost the entire collection of MARY MARVEL COMICS (only 2 issues missing) is available at ebay for $2600 and the entire collection of THE MARVEL FAMILY is available at ebay for $4500. Obviously, this means PLENTY of scenes of Mary Batson bound and gagged, most of which none of us have ever seen before. I am trying to organize a campaign to get people to pool our money together to buy it. The more people that contribute, the less it would cost each individual person. As far as who gets to hold on to them, there are various options: the person who is willing and able to scan the books (at least the bondage scenes), the person who contributes the most money, or we could divide the collection. To get the ball rolling I am willing to contribute $50. Is anyone here interested? I'm serious about this. If everyone contributed only a few dollars we could get it!

Gags are my thing.

Even though it didn't have a gag, I thought the chair tie of "Greenlee" on "All My Children" was a pretty good one.

what I do not understand about Ulee's Gold, is that Biel has several wraps of duct tape round her mouth, whilst her mother and sister has just one? was there a reason for this?

Cameron Diaz had a pair (of chair ties) in "Head Above Water" that were Well Above Average IMHO. The second scene had two praiseworthy elements: 1) the chair was on its back (as was, thereby, Cameron), and 2) a bird "walked" by.

The second is what I ask about here. For some inexplicable reason, it works better for me when the helplessness of the DID is confirmed by the relative freedom of a person (or creature) who ought to be significantly weaker. The Gulliver's Travels idea of Lilliputians capturing the mcuh stronger, giant-like human.

For me, I love when the scene has the underdog ememrging as victor, more important even than brevity, plausibility and other characteristics frustratingly elusive of late. Often, it allows me to enjoy a scene even if, in its absence, I would consider it fatally flawed. I think. And at the very least, the phrasing is the best I've mustered to date in its descriptive power.

it seems weird to say, but I think that the script could use more action, for example the efforts to take the ring from the child.

The Sheedy scene did.

What wasn't true was that the scene hadn't been mentioned before.
The chair thread started with mentions of a number of comic scenes. One poster then brought up some more serious scenes, beginning with the Sheedy.
That was on Monday. Ancient history, I guess.

Joan Prather? Interesting. I wrote an essay a few years ago about Joan. She's been a DiD in a disproportinately high number of her film roles. Most notably she did a nude sexual bondage scene which involved her being bound and gagged in "The Single Girls." Unfortunately, it came to a bad ending. Now we add the "Victim" ep of Fantasy Island to her list. Kinda makes you wonder.

You got me a little confused here, unless by "scene" you mean something different than I do. By "scene" I understand the storyline from the actress is tied up until she is freed/frees herself from that same tie- regardless of what other action is shown in between.

By that definition there's only one chairtie in HAW, and that's the second scene.

1st scene tied hands behind ankles together, lying on a sofa, a little carrying too, frees herself with kitchen knife. Includes the famous gag with a green lemon as mouth filling.

2nd scene the chairtie, lots of rope but a little loose- she knocks over the chair and at the same time a shelf whereby she gets a knife-again. The bird walks by.

3rd scene is the one with her hands tied in front, concrete shoes and a chainsaw.

Anyway, I tend to agree, it adds to a scene if a supposedly weaker creature is free and moves around while the damsel can't. I actually asked in this very forum many months ago if anyone knew what kind of bird it was, but noone knew then.

Lastly, as of chairties, I tend to like scenes where the damsel at first struggles energetically to free herself, fails, and eventually gives up. The "Ârtzin in Angst" scene, last part, is an example. She spots a pair of scissors on a table, inches her chair towards it, accidentally tips the chair over, and is then stuck. When the villain returns she is asleep in that same position.

I think it's a long shot that we can get this done, but I'm willing to pitch in with $300. If we get enough people we can get this done, and get a lot of long-forgotten Mary Batson bound and gagged scenes out there for everyone to see. If we can pull this off, I would be willing to scan EVERYTHING from EVERY issue and send it to every person who contributs funds for the purchase! So, let's get those nickels and dimes (and large dollar amounts) coming in!

I'll agree there, mainly because anything with Rebecca Budig would qualify. Plus, I love the expression on her face as that scene unfolds (caps in the first ezine edition on this page).

Another great chair-tie was from the same soap, Elizabeth Hendrickson. She awakens bound in the wheelchair with no gag, and is later gagged for several episodes tied to the same chair in the shack.

Two of the best daytime damsels in the business.

Alright, so we have $350 so far. Mmmalph, this makes you the obvious choice to have the collection. I'm ready to send you a check right now. If we get this thing rolling and it becomes a real possibility, I may be able to contribute more. C'mon, if everybody just contributes a few dollars we can get this easily!

Mmmalph, when is the deadline?

I just read Mmmalph's post at the Perils of Mary Batson yahoo group. He said that the deadline for the Marvel Family collection is Monday (Sep 1) and the deadline for the Mary Marvel collection is Tuesday (Sep 2.) He also said that so far there are NO bids.

I wonder if a cleave gag would have worked on Mary Marvel or if a garbled 'Shazam' would have sufficed.

The Single Girls has been the focus of...curiosity...on my part. Now it sounds even more worthwhile. But do you know where I can find it? I've searched for years and always come up #!@%& tails...

Gagged For No Reason
I saw a message about someone getting gagged for no reason. This reminds me of Debra Messings Scene in Prey where she was handgagged. I mean, was it necessary? I did find it interesting. It was unexpected and her expression was great. Does anyone else know of any scenes similar like that where a handgag or andy other gag was placed where the girl was suprised or where it wasnt called for, but applied anyway? Ultimate suprise is good like when someone is sleeping and someone applies a gag or handgag.

I noticed that too! The mom and little sister have this one strip loose over their mouths and Biel has like seven wraps around her mouth tight. Hmmm....I wonder if there's something going on there.

Never saw the original, but it didn't look chopped. Britt's wig sort of ruined it for me. Ironically, it was Oscar Goldman who did the onscreen tying, no doubt making up for the fact that Steve Austin got to B&G Britt in her bikini a few years earlier (an excellent chair tie).

Per, I checked out those caps of "Artzin in Angst" at HtF [insert highest accolades here], and that scene looks like a great one. I always try to divide my lists into scenes I've actually watched and scenes I've been able to view only in cap form (and let me tell you, there are WAAAAAY too many of those . . . though I am eternally grateful for the cappers who provide me with those wonderful images until that day I actually get to watch them).

Here are some scenes I rate highly in the chair-tie category, in no order:
1. Deanna Milligan - Avalanche
2. Harley Jane Kozak - You Wish
3. Anne Marie Loder - First Wave (despite the lame gag)
4. Yvonne Craig - Batman (a personal favorite)
5. Patrice Camhi - New Zorro ("The Marked Man")
6. Laura Harring - Sunset Beach

Those are six that I've seen in both forms; the next six --lead by a trio from The Bold & the Beautiful -- are ones I've seen only in vidcap form:

1. Barbara Crampton
2. Joanna johnson
3. Adrienne Franz
4. Alexandra Vandernoot - Highlander the Series
5. Daisy Fuentes - Angeles
6. Katharina Abt - Du hast mir meine Familie geraubt

And, finally, a special mention for what I believe to be the greatest comic book scene ever -- the Black Canary, B&G in a chair in her bra & panties. The "scene" that REALLY got me hooked on the whole DiD thing. I find it as sexy now as I did when I first saw it. And, if you use your imagination, it also fits the type of scene "gytalf2000" was talking about earlier: damsels who awaken only to find themselves B&G to a chair (she had been knocked out in a scuffle and, very likely, awoke in the chair B&G in her underwear. Now, if that's not the ultimate benefit of being a henchman -- undressing a beautiful damsel and tying and gagging her to a chair in nothing but her underwear -- I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!!).

It's my two pesos, that's all . . .

But her Fantasy Island scene didn't even qualify as a Loosie in my opinion. She was told to put her hands through two metal hoops that were even wider than the usual wide-diameter shackles. That guy who has the whipping scenes database had caps of it, but it's been a pay site for a long time now.

I'm with you on this. The Baywatch scene with Nicole Eggert, atop my list of best-looking DiD's and at her peak, could have been spectacular with a little energetic struggling. I won't blame Nicole -- had she exerted the appropriate energy, she'd have torn through the flimsy little chair to which she was tied. But the way it came off? When the cigarette ignites the gas, it'll crack our Eggert like Humpty Dumpty, but they allow her about as much effort as someone trying to open a jar of marmalade! Unless rescued, and in keeping with the breakfast food metaphors: she's toast! Come on, producers! If you follow the news, you know that human beings like that hiker recently will CUT OFF THEIR OWN ARM in survival efforts!

Ah, what a scene that would have been! Nicole at the top of her game, eyes and curves and legs frantically racing the clock, knocking over her chair and trying desperately to drag herself over to where she might somehow be able to extinguish the cigarette! And then, of course, all of a sudden, a bird walks casually by... :-)

Similarly dressed, similarly hot and doing a little better job at feigning effort against the lame restraints of her chair tie, I give you Babe, one of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. As her opponents piled up the firewood and started to light it, she was screaming and kicking and stuff despite it being obviously all she could do to STOP the ropes from slipping off!

Sorry, by the way, about my lazy accounting of Head Above Water scenes. To make amends, I offer an example of a potential tangent to the chair tie talk: what's good and bad about scenes when the CAPTOR knocks the chair over? Considerately, a la Teri Hatcher's chair on the bed in All Tied Up? Or how about like that Quantum Leap where Scott Bakula practically mummifies in a chair the girl who plays Ross' first wife on Friends. He sets new standards of sarcasm in "putting her down" as she complains of discomfort!

Perhaps a cleave gag, tied between the teeth, might not be as effective as a gag tied over her mouth. She might still be able to intelligibly say the magic word that transforms her into a superheroine.
Furthermore, these comics seem to date from the 1930s to the 1950s, and captive damsels in comics from that time were invariably gagged with a white cloth tied over the mouth. My surmise is that inking was not as fine or precise then as it is now, and a cleave gag wouldn't be as visible or easy to discern as a large white cloth tied over the mouth. A cleave gag would be easy to see in panels that focused on the damsel's head, but not in panels in which her entire body was shown.
Inking today is superior, and results in more detailed and clearly delineated pictures. This might be why cleave gags are more commonly shown in comics today.

There are no scenes in this movie of any interest except for a dead girl's hands tied over a shower water sprinkler. It is a low budget movie made with some talent and originality.
