Wednesday September 10 04:34:06 2003 Oprah in shackles! |
I hope I didn't get people too excited, because it's not as good as it sounds, but it's something. On Oprah, Tue 09/09/03 she did an episode called "The Best Money I Ever Spent" which was comprised of interviews with various folks who has invested their money in enterprises for the public good. One segment was about a man who was horrified by slavery and how the sheer brutality of it had been whitewashed in history, and built a museum dedicated to it. He brought some of the artifacts to her show. (shackles, whips, branding irons, etc.) Oprah held a set of shackles and tried them on. Yeah, she could slip right out and all that, but it's better than nothing. BTW, Oprah was once in more modern style handcuffs once in "The Color Purple." After her character was beaten up by a racist mob, and she was brought in to the police station for assault (Remember, this was the old South.) she was in handcuffs, but this scene was in darkness, so it is rather difficult to see the cuffs. You have to step frame by frame to really see them. |

Wednesday September 10 13:10:12 2003 Marina Black |
Interview with sexy Marina Black is on the UPN Web site. Toward the end, she says "I can't think of 5 words to describe the show......It's a great show. That's 3 words, right?"
Actually, that's 4 words, but since you're bound and gagged tonight we'll let it go. She could have said "bound and gagged." 3 words. |

"Witness" did have the scene described in DB entry 8799 ... but Annette O'Toole wasn't gagged. I'll update the entry once the DB's operational again. |

Wednesday September 10 16:01:11 2003 'The Cut' |
Has anyone read the book 'In the Cut' which Meg Ryan's new movie is based on ...from what I've read about it on the net...the plot has big S&M, bondage potential and the female director has done lots with this kind of theme in the past.
Every review I've read only refers to it as an 'erotic thriller' |

It says "Sarah is kidnapped, apparently cholorformed and gagged with a clean white strip of fabric." Reviewer ends with a positive summary. Another good review for this show, which hopefully UPN can take advantage of. The voiceovers should say "TV Guide says.....The N.Y. Times says....." |
Wednesday September 10 17:32:35 2003 Crash recovery status |
1. The database is restored and should be up to date and functional. If you see anything funny, post in DB Corrections or email.
2. The lost messages are lost for good, sorry. They only back up once a week or so. I'm trying to come up with a backup scheme of my own for the future. 3. At least a few of the lost messages were Alerts. If you posted an alert some time in the past few days, check on it. It doesn't matter what day it was FOR, but rather what day it was actually posted. |

Wednesday September 10 17:54:23 2003 Jake 2.0---Further Corroboration |
Here's an excerpt from the upn.com episode blurb:
...Jake must use his wits and newfound, untried abilities to save his long-time crush, Sarah Heywood (Marina Black), now working as a Washington, D.C., congressional staffer, from IRA kidnappers who want the experimental nanites bonded to Jake's system. By the way, the image below is Marina/Sarah. (Not bad for a non-redhead!) :-) |

Wow, what an amazing stroke of luck for us; a new, hot show with cool special effects, a popular young star; and to think, they could have picked any concept for the first episode and they picked the kidnapping and binding of his hot blonde girlfriend, and most likely her rescue. Wonders never cease. (Note: heavy irony). |

Therefore, "non-redhead" means "not a redhead." A blonde is "not a redhead;" therefore, a blonde is a "non-redhead." In other words... she looks like a non-redhead to me. :-) |

(Note: heavy irony). A bit more of a wonder is that the blonde kidnappee is NOT his girlfriend. She is just a "friend" from college who is now working in DC, same as him. I doubt any show debut has ever had a female other than a wife/girlfriend/daughter/sister of the hero get kidnapped, bound, and gagged. And for you West Coast folks who only want to catch the b&g scene, it's in the last 20 minutes. |

I meant that in a negative way. However, fans of unconscious damsels should like it. |

Wednesday September 10 22:10:22 2003 Jake 2.0 scene review |
Well, I just saw the new "Jake 2.0 scene" and it was pretty good. The set-up to the scene was tense and exciting. The cleave gag was nice and filling for mainstream. The damsel was a cutie(though I prefer brunettes). The only negative IMHO was that she never wakes up from the (offscreen) chloroforming. I always like the distressed glances and mmphs of a damsel as the hero battles the villain for her rescue.
Overall, I did like the show's premise. It is entertaining and watchable, compared to the other shows on the UPN. I hope there are other scenes with other female leads(or sexy guest stars). |

Nice review, Paco. I appreciate it. Now, does anyone know if/when UPN will repeat this episode? I know the WB often repeats shows, so I imagine UPN will also. Thanks in advance for any information. |

Wednesday September 10 23:29:24 2003 Jake 2.0 scene |
The Jake 2.0 scene was rather gratuitous, given that the damsel was unconscious throughout. And the wrapping on the hand was very thorough -- looked like five neat coils of rope around her wrists, not the sloppy jobs you usually see. But her hands were tied in front.
The cloth cleave gag was a nice touch, a welcome relief from all the tape gags we've been seeing lately. And her ankles appeared to be tied together. I believe they were also crossed. I'm not sure what to think about the scene. It didn't exactly break any new ground, though it's about the only prime-time full treatment scene we've encountered in ages. |

I loved the gag, but found the scene frustrating both because she was asleep and because there wasn't enough of it. Especially in the very first part, she was out of focus for too long. In the last part, she was just out of frame when it would have been nice to see her. When he was taking her gag off, they cut away for much of the process. Frustrating, but still a nice white cleave gag. |
