BLOODY WIRE?
The above is my screwup of the title of a new BBC America action show that I think premiered Sunday night or thereabout. It was a two hour movie so I'm not sure whether it's a regular series or a series of TV movies. Anyway the premise sounds like one that might appeal to people like us. It's about someone who hunts serial killers and the like. The premiere episode was, unfortunately, about a serial killer targeting males. Any of our posters from the UK familiar with this series? If so do you know of any scenes that might be of interest to your fellow posters? Sorry for the poor way I'm providing information on this show.

As we celebrate the turning of yet another page...
...of the calendar, let's take a moment or two and remember the damsels with scenes in our database who passed away in 2003.

Nell Carter, surprisingly, didn't get it until 2001 in a "Seven Days" episode, despite all those years on Broadway and in other TV series. She died January 23 at 54.

One hopes that Lana Clarkson, whose demise February 3 at age 40 has been too well publicized to need any further elaboration here, will be remembered less for that than for her work in the "Barbarian Queen" movies in 1985 and 1989, as well as "Vice Girls" in 1996 and a 2001 "Black Scorpion" episode.

Vera Ralston was either 81 or 83 when she died February 9, depending on which source you believe. She got it in "Fair Wind to Java" in 1953.

Beth Marion, tied up in "Phantom Gold" in 1938, passed away February 18 at 90.

Christiane Schmidtmer died March 13 at 63. Her one scene was in a 1966 "Twelve O'Clock High" episode.

Anne Gwynne's was in 1941's "The Black Cat," a film which sadly seems to have disappeared from the classic-movie airwaves, in favor of the bondageless Bela Lugosi entry with the same title from a few years earlier. At least that's the one my VCR always manages to grab. Gwynne was 84 when she died March 31.

Suzy Parker, who pioneered the supermodel-turned-actress career track-and only managed a single scene in the 1966 "Tarzan" TV series while doing it- was either 69 or 70, according to various sources, when she passed away May 3. Given that those few supermodels who have followed her lead haven't exactly been the most prolific damsels, it would seem her example has been taken to heart.

And can there be anything more incredible than Katharine Hepburn having only gotten it once? I still have never seen 1956's "The Iron Petticoat," but I've got to believe that Kate only donned the ropes and cloth after much prodding, and then only out of deference to someone else, perhaps her co-star, Bob Hope, whose leading ladies-Dorothy Lamour instantly comes to mind-had a penchant for getting into a bind. At any rate, when you tip your glass to Hepburn, who died June 29 at 96, take another sip for Hope, who followed her July 27 at 100, and maybe follow it up by humming a few bars of "Thanks for the Memories." It's not like he isn't deserving.

Unfortunately, some others may not be. It's too bad that Leni Riefenstahl, who was 101 when she passed away September 8, will be better remembered-and rightly reviled-by most people for her later work behind the camera than she will for her acting career, which included her lashed-to-a-stretcher scene in 1929's "The White Hell of Pitz Palu." It's a shame she didn't leave Germany as did many other artists, perhaps ending up here or in postwar Europe as a respected feature-film director with a whole slew of titles in the database. Instead, she chose to stay and do what she did, and then spent the rest of her life in denial. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

Julie Parrish, in the database for a 1964 "Gunsmoke" episode, died October 1 at 62.

Victoria Horne, who got it in the 1944 Sherlock Holmes entry "The Scarlet Claw," was 91 when she died October 10.

Janice Rule, straitjacketed in 1967's "The Ambushers." died October 17 at 72.

Dorothy Fay, in the database for the 1940 movie serial "The Green Archer," passed away November 5 at 88.

Penny Singleton was someone else whose decades-long career prompts the question, "What, you mean she only got it once?" At least that once was one of the all-time great comic chair-ties-"Blondie's Big Deal" from 1949. She died November 12 at 95.

Kellie Waymire was only 36 when she died November 13. She had three scenes in the database, all of them within the last four years: One episode each of "Freedom" (2000) and "NYPD Blue" (2003), and the movie "Maniacts" (2001). One wonders how much more she might have given us.

Well, she gave us more than Ellen Drew, who apparently believed in quality more than quantity. Her two scenes, in 1940's "Buck Benny Rides Again" opposite Jack Benny, and "My Favorite Spy" two years later, are masterpieces of the classic comedy genre. Drew was 88, according to the IMDb, when she passed away December 3, but some sources reported she was 89.

And then there was Madlyn Rhue, 68 when she died on December 16, who racked up four scenes in the 1960s (a 1960 "Untouchables" episode, two episodes of "The Man from U. N. C. L. E." from 1964 and 1967, and a scene in the short-lived 1967 series "Captain Nice") but apparently nothing else.

So the damsels we've lost this past year are a rather eclectic group. Many had long, stellar careers and perhaps only one or two scenes, but in a sense, that makes what they did leave us more precious and thus their loss more keenly felt. And clearly there is a void left in the wake of those gone too soon, no matter how many times their names appear in the database. But the rest of them-for the most part, at least-are just as deserving of rembrance, because they make up what could be called the "great, gray mainstream" of damseldom-the journeywoman actress who, happening across a scene in a B-movie or TV script perhaps only once in her life, puts her shoulder to the wheel, so to speak, and by dint of her talent, determination, and dedication to her craft, sometimes produces one brief shining moment in an otherwise unremarkable career.

May many more follow their example, not just in this New Year but beyond.

Cold Mountain
I saw "Cold Mountain" and here is a brief but more detailed description of the action: This scene has to count as a surpise.
Breifly, Natalie Portman's cabin is raided by some renegade Union soldiers. She is dragged out, tied to a post with her hands behind the post (Done onscreen) , and her baby is laid on the ground where the soldiers threaten to kill it unless she reveals where she has food stored. After she tells the soliders she is untied and dragged into the cabin to be raped …this is when Inman (Jude Law) intervenes and Portman ends up shooting one of the union soldiers.
It's a pretty grim scene, but it's fairly lengthy and there are some good shots of Natalie, including a couple of her bound hands.
Before the film they showed a trailer for the upcoming "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".Nothing in the trailer, but Gwenneth Paltrow as a nosy 30's reporter has obvious possibilities…and the film looks fun anyway

This must be 'Wire In The Blood'. There's definitely nothing of interest in this series for gag snobs (like me), but I can't be sure if there are any ungagged damsels, sorry.

The actual book of that title, upon which this series is based, does have a policewoman bound and gagged (and gruesomely murdered), and I think that a teenage girl is also a chained-up kidnap victim.

When I saw the series first advertised over here I anticipated the pilot to be based upon the actual plot of the novel, but as you point out, they went inexplicably for a male victims storyline, whilst retaining the main character names from the book.

Actually I really seem to remember a very quick scene where she & Simon were handcuffed, their feet were tied and they WERE gagged...I have no idea what tape it is on I remember it being so poor & bad camera angles & no nice shot of her gagged face that I was very nonplussed with it.

Re: War of the Worlds

Actress is CJ Fidler who also has a role as 'Captive
Woman' in the George Romero film 'Bruiser'. Anyone seen it?

She did another arms over head scene in JERRY AND TOM.

I notice that this hasn't made it into the database. Why?

These three shows just aired in Germany too. I believe there is a no-gag scene in the second show 'Shadows Rising' (bound woman locked in a closet in an abandoned house), but I am not sure how much there actually is to see of it.

Happy new year everyone!
Now that another year is past, I feel the need to say:

Thank you to the one who runs these forums and gives all of us a place to share our thoughts.

Thank you to all who post here and fill this board with life, who point out movies or shows to us, alert us, share information or just entertain us with their posts.

Thank you to those who added to the database, making it an astounding source of information, and to those who work tirelessly to improve it further.

Also thank you to everyone who runs a webpage to our enjoyment.

Before I am getting too carried away, Germany's first new DiD scene in 2004 will be no later than January 6th, in the first new episode of "Doppelter Einsatz". And yours?

Happy hunting in 2004 everyone!

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean DVD
> Anything of interest, such as in the deleted scenes?

There is a deleted scene of Ms. Knightly being led from a row boat into the cave. No new roping, just her hands tied in front with a pirate pulling her on with some of the excess rope.
There is also a DVD-ROM feature of storyboard to final print comparsion, but I haven't watched it yet.

Do you know a scene like this?
Happy New Year Everyone,

Does anyone know of scenes where the damsel is forced to pretend that she is not being held captive by the bad guys?

Allow me to elaborate.

For example, a girl is captured, tied up and gagged. A phone rings and the bad guys have to let her answer so as not to make anything look suspicous. The damsel answers the phone and says everything is ok. She hangs up and is promptly (re)gagged and taken captive. Or if the damsel is forced to call someone and explain her absence so no one would think is missing.

If anyone can think of scenes like that then let me know.I really enjoy this scenario. It is played out alot in commericial bondage videos and it would be nice to see something similar in mainstream.

The classic film "Three Days of the Condor" (1975), which airs frequently on the American Movie Classics channel (check the "VCR Alerts" page).

And while not bound, who can forget the waitress in "Sudden Impact" trying to signal Lt. Harry Callahan of a robbery in progress by pouring half a cannister of sugar into his morning coffee?
