The networks always build them up in promos, then ax them in a second. "Wildcard" was a major bust, with not even a hint of trouble for Joely Fisher, although Jenny McCarthy looked good in a guest spot in the season finale. "Missing" certainly used that roll of duct tape they had on the set plenty of times, but it would have been nice to see either of the two female get a gag scene. |

Has anyone rented this Steven Seagal straight-to-video movie? It deals with him rescuing his daughter and was wondering if it had anything of interest even it's just a chloroform scene... |

For the worst DB entry. Worst as in, "didn't do justice to a terrific scene." Now, I certainly don't expect people to freaking Hemingway, I'm certainly not, but the basic elements of the scene, they've just GOT to be there. Heck, the old "bound and gagged" would have been better I think.
Which would you want to see? Original: Record #6895 Title: Samantha (1998) Medium: Soap Opera Actress: Patricia Oliveros Description: In this Latin Soap, Sarita (Patricia) was bound by Betzaida, because she have the picture of the murder. New description: Description: In this hispanic soap, Betzaida comes looking for some incriminating evidence that Sarita (Oliveros) has. She pulls a gun on our victim-to-be and gets her to yield the desired photos or whatever. There's the typical gun to the head threats favored by the crazed female captors in Spanish soaps, with the usual pleas from the captive. After that, Sarita is taken into a bedroom occupied by a bed-ridden elderly woman. Sarita is tied to a chair, hands behind her, torn towels circling her upper body. She's gagged with a dark patterned scarf. There's more gun threats and taunts after she's tied up. Eventually the captor makes her escape. However, there's plenty more shots of Sarita, with lots of good closeups (to the point where you can count how many times she was regagged by the production crew). Eventually she works her chair around so the old lady can untie her. Ms. Oliveros is an attractive, 30ish, dark-haired woman. She's dressed in a miniskirt-length jumper over a white blouse. |

Too many entries lack those basic elements. However, it's the other way round too, something that has disappointed me a few times. For example, the DB entry says: "She was tied to a chair with rope, hands behind her back, feet tied too, for most of the episode". Right. I sit on the edge of my chair, VCR remote ready and loaded, expecting a nice scene, VERY long. Then the scene is a 2 second shot, dark and from a distance, of the DiD tied, in the beginning, some talk of her missing during the ep, and another 2 sec shot, dark and from a distance, when she is found and released. There's nothing WRONG with the description, except it does not give a clue as to the quality of the actual footage. -in the exaple I mention, the ep was aired here about 3 am. I actually set my alarm clock so I could get up and tape it. Later I deleted the worthless scene. |

Sunday January 25 15:12:33 2004 On Database entries |
As a followup, I want to say, we shouldn't demand so much from an entry that people are afraid to make one.
Therefore, I hereby suggest a "New Database Entry Manual". Take it, ditch it, or change it! ------------------------------------------------------ There are some points that HAS to be filled out in your entry. Those are marked with an *. Others are only nice to have, provided you have the information. 1)* Title of movie or series 2)* If a series, episode title and number. If unknown, write unknown 3)*Actress/actresses name /names. If unknown, write unknown 4)(From now on, in "description) what your entry is based on, often written inside a (...), eg. based on screen captures, description from an internet site etc. No need to write anything if you actually SAW the film 5)Short (one, max. 2 sentencies) description of the storyline or situation (eg the evil General, aiming to conquer the Universe, seems even more keen to marry his captive...) 6)* Description of the restraints.Tied with what? How?(sitting, lying, standing) hands how? (behind back, along sides, in front, over head). Rope (what type) leather, tape, cuffs, shackles? If shackles, are they fitting, or could the actress put her head through them? Tying / untying on screen? 7)*Gag.Type? (detective/over the mouth, cleavegag, tapegag) Mouth filling? With what? (Green lemons and potatoes MUST be mentioned!) If no gag, write "no gag" 8)*Length. What happens? Do we see her tied up in 10 minutes full screentime, or for 2 seconds? 9)*Quality: Lighting? Closeups of face and restraints? Chairobscura filming? 10)Struggling: Does the Damsel struggle or mmpff? Or cry for help? 11)Clothing: How about that? Naked, bikini, skirt and heels, or a thick winter coat? Also, is she a cutie or not? 12)Dialogue: Does the damsel, or her captor, say something that would add to the scene (eg "release me from these tight ropes brute!") 13)Anything else you want to add, that you find interesting |

I forgot, add to point 6:
Security. Do the restraints look like they are inescapable, or could the actress get out of them in 10 seconds if the Instructor allowed her? |

More that I forgot:
Point 8, add: Where in the movie / episode is the action? Beginning, middle, end, or, even better, between minute mark ? and ? |

Sunday January 25 17:04:59 2004 Unusual gag scene coming up |
All the comments about tape gag scenes being too commonplace lead me to point out that the "All that Glitters" ep of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" ep is upcoming, featuring a scene with a woman tied hands behind, with the butt of a crossbow tied to her neck while the business end is tied to her father's neck. If she lets go of the plug in her mouth, it releases the crossbow and her father dies. 1 a.m. Monday (i.e., later this evening) on the SciFi Channel. It's posted on the Alerts page.

I'm VERY concerned about the Father's welfare of course, let's just hope the daughter can hang in there as long as possible - GO GIRL! |

Sunday January 25 18:48:16 2004 FYI Van: re Connie Nielson |
IIRC her scene in Demonlover got negative reviews by posters at this site who saw it in the theatres. Since seeing Connie get it again would have been a major scene I was excited when news first leaked. However I have lowered my expectations somewhat. IIRC she was said to have been somewhat banged up, and the scene is brief.

I want to use examples to get the point across about entries without spooking people or making anyone feel bad. > Therefore, I hereby suggest a "New Database Entry > Manual". It's something I've been looking at, trying to figure out the best way. The sad fact is, people don't read the existing documentation, I don't know that adding more will solve that. > 2)* If a series, episode title and number. If unknown, > write unknown It's not necessary to do that. Leaving the Episode field blank will put that in for TV series. > 11)Clothing: How about that? Naked, bikini, skirt and > heels, or a thick winter coat? Also, is she a cutie or > not? O'm of the opinion that clothing should only be mentioned when it's significant. I don't normally add in mundane details on that, and I wouldn't want to require a clothing report on every entry. Most of these are good ideas, but the fact that there are that many indicates that it's too much detail for a guide. You can have perfectly good entries which ignore half of those. |
