Just one thing...would you be willing to consider 480 rather than 400, just to placate those vidcap geeks among us who find it an easier number with which to work? |

>Blind Witness - tape gag around head
"One False Move" have similar scene, but with several black actress / DID. >Plus size DID Perhaps Minnie Driver on wet / underwater bondage scene. (Movie on armored car robbery) >Image size max 400x400 Any limit on color depth? (16, 256, 64K or 16M colors?) The size of BW bmp picture is only 20 Kb, but the size of 16 M colors bmp picture is 500 Kb. The size of compressed JPEG image depend on the image and quality of image. |

Stick with jpegs. they say that GIFs are better for line art and images with lots of flat planes of color, but I haven't seen much diffo in file size. Also, if you can get your hands on an image editor with "Save For Web" as an option or equivalent, do so. It'll really shrink your file sizes without much loss of image quality. |

Yah, GIFs are just plain wrong for photographic content, unless you need the animation capabilities of GIF89a for some reason. (A case could also be made for small GIF thumbnail images with seriously reduced palettes -- but even there, JPEGs compete well.) Photographs simply don't compress nearly as well with GIF's run-length encoding as they do with JPEG's discrete cosine transform. Plus, you take a serious hit with GIF's 256-color limitation. I tend to see GIF photos from the old days and ask myself how we ever put up with that... |

I was wondering about this too. My sense is that the moderator is more concerned about images with large physical dimensions that might not look good in a small window than he is about large files (in terms of KB) that might take a while to load -- even though the latter is arguably more problematic than the former for the typical reader. Brian: how about a 480x640 pixel/100KB limit for any given post? In other words, the one to three images in the post may not exceed 307,200 pixels or 100KB total? Sorry...work carrying over into hobbies and such. Perhaps this is drawing the lines in too obscure a fashion, but I do believe that it's the most promising road to a solution that makes everyone happy. |

It's a combination of both. Generally, a smaller size image will drive down the file size. Of course, server speed enters into it as well. I'll still reserve the right to do something about really slow-loading images. > Brian: how about a 480x640 pixel/100KB limit for any > given post? Brilliant, as it so often is:
Kidnapped Hilton Sisters Appalled By Captor's Basement NEW YORK—According to Monday's New York Post, hotel heiresses Paris and Nicky Hilton are aghast over the condition of the basement of their kidnapper, William Henry Buntz. "My sources tell me that Paris and Nicky are bound-and-gagging over the less-than-tony trappings," Post Page Six gossip columnist Richard Johnson wrote. "Sources say their crazed captor has creeping crud and crawling centipedes in his cellar... and it's got the spoiled socialites in a snit!" As of press time, police have made no attempt to locate the sisters. http://www.theonion.com/index.html#nib |
