Elisha Cuthbert
If you look her up on Wikipedia, note the pic they use to show her in "24." :-)

Whats the series/movie that best set up bondage opportunities, and missed them most egregiously?
What are the set-ups for bondage scenes or bondage stories that were the most totally missed?

I'll start by nominating '9 1/2 Weeks.' It's based on a book that explicitly states that the female protagonist was ALWAYS bound whenever she was alone with her lover. It described her being fed while bound at the table, having her hair brushed and getting bathed while bound, being hung naked from a hook while bound, etc.

Not a bondage scene in the entire movie.

Agree 1000% with Pat.

Let us not forget those 'Gor' mponstrosities and the Stephanie Zimbalist version of 'The Man In The Brown Suit' [wonderful being bound and then escaping scene in the book, zilch in the movie].

New General Hospital Spin off Series
There was a preview for the Soapnet channel's new General Hospital spin off, GH Night Shift on ABC yesterday. The preview showed Kirsten Storms ("Maxie Jones"), getting caught handcuffed AOH in the supply closet while making out with her cop boyfriend.

Kirsten has her hospital scrubs opened to reveal a bright pink bra when her father walks into the closet.

The series premieres on SOAPNET on July 12.

Another was the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where the three nerd villains turned themselves (and Buffy invisible). When Willow begins to unravel the mystery, they capture her and at the commercial break unseen hands have a strip of duct tape headed straight for her mouth.

As we know, we never saw Willow b&g'd -- even though she's a powerful witch. One of the episode's "in-jokes" is that instead of preparing for their showdown w/ Buffy, the nerds are engrossed in arcade games.

Methinks the "in-joke" would've been an even better punchline for Willow's post-rescue debriefing (where the joke was that Xander's interest was suddenly piqued when Willow remembered that the nerds' lair was covered with posters of that Vulcan babe from Star Trek Enterprise).

E.g., Willow relates that although she was chair-tied and gagged, luckily the nerds were more interested in playing arcarde games than their prisoner.

Anya: "Those nerds *are* weird! I mean, Xander wasn't distracted by anything when I was like that on Saturday..."

She looks Smokin in a nice dress nylons & heels...

One bad guy is instructed to take her in the other room and tie her up (he might have said gag her too)...

THEN THEY NEVER FRIGGIN SHOW HER TIED UP

HUFF HUFF

Same exact thing pretty much happened on an episode of THE GREEN HORNET. Ms. Case is kidnapped and the villain instructs his henchmen to take her into the hold of his boat and tie and gag her. But we never got to see her that way!

Grr!!

There's a Fall Guy episode where Heather T's undercover assignment is blown. The bad guys grab her, rough her up, drag her by the hair, do everything short of tying her up... then sit her down in a chair in a hotel room and tell her to stay put. She hops out of the chair... and they push her down and tell her to stay put again, and this time they mean it!

Then they just leave her, and I guess she does, in fact, just sit there in the chair.

I hate a cooperative damsel.

While series that could, but don't, produce scenes are frustrationg, most of the others mentioned are of the "Boy I sure wish Thelma Snoertfalkski would have gotten the treatment in 'Lives of a Safeway Checker'" type.

I think what Pat was asking was "What Movies/Series made from books that prominently featured DID situations had nothing of interest in the Movies/Series?". The Bonita Granville 'Nancy Drew' movies being another prime example.

At least that is the way I took his question :-)

I agree the Gor movies are monstrosities, but I didn't start with them, because they at least had SOME few bondage scenes, whereas 9 1/2 Weeks blew it completely. Plus, the first few Gor novels, upon which the movies were supposedly based, were weak on the slavegirl bondage stuff compared with the other 20 or so novels in the series.

I do think the creators of the Gor movies made a much bigger mistake than the creators of 9 1/2 Weeks, because even without the bondage, 9 1/2 Weeks had a hot, sexy romance story to it, whereas without the bondage the Gor movies were just another sword and sandal flick, and very badly done ones at that. Hell, if they'd followed through on Norman's interest in the societies he created, they'd have had something different and special. But the guy who wrote the Gor movies, Harry Alan Towers, is a noted hack who screws up everything he does. The Gor movies were jsut another in a strong of his failures.

How about that Buffy episode, "Dead Things," where the three nerds use magic to turn a former girlfriend in to a total slavegirl and make her dress in a French maid outfit, then the writers can't come up with anything better to do with her than kill her off? The plotline was ripe with bondage opportunities, also ripe with opportunities for the kind of snarky humor about sex that Wheedon enjoys. I'll never understand how he flubbed that one so badly.

Prolly the most common form of blowing it. You have to wonder why they go to the trouble to set up a bondage scene and then neglect to air it.

Oh, right. Stupidity.

Nah, I was just interested in all kinds of cases where a bondage scene seemed to be a lock and then wasn't, as opposed to cases where a bondage scene might have been good, but wasn't necessarily called for.

For example, in the movie "Sapphire Girls" and all-girl band is recruited by an incompetent CIA handler to combat a criminal mastermind who's planning on selling mind-control drugs to the highest-paying terrorist group. Here's a plot that's rife with opportunity, I mean, hot wenches doing amateur snooping around a criminal mastermind's super plans! Of course they'll be caught and put on ice!

Well, they never do get tied up, which is a shame, because one of them is Mary Carey, and she knows a thing or two about writhing as well as running for governor of California. I wouldn't call THAT an example of a what I'm looking for, because the scene was never really a "lock."

The all time winner: "Quantum Leap", Episode 1.9, "Play It Again Seymour" (Brian dBase #656).

CLAUDIA CHRISTIAN... in a strapless gown... *already* bound & gagged... *already* on camera!! All the director has to do is have the camera *FOCUS* on her for a closeup! All he has to do after yelling "cut" is have the foreground actors move out of the way and tell the cameraman to shoot a few feet of film for cutaways!! Does he do it?? NOOOOO!!! AAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Roger that shipmate, I misunderstood what you were asking.

So I'll ask it :-)

What Movie/TV Show/TV Series based on a book/books/story with a good DID scene/scenes totally and completely failed to deliver DIDwise ????

Again the Bonita Granville 'Nancy Drew' movies immediately spring to mind.
