Friday June 15 00:43:54 2007 Hostel 2 pix in Entertainment Weekly |
This week's Entertainment Weekly (I don't recall what publication date is on it, but the cover story is "25 All Time Greatest Action Movies") has two large, clear full-face shots from Hostel 2: one of Bijou Phillips sporting a large black ballgag, and one of Lauren German with a very tight white cleave. I'm not at home, and don't have my copy with me, but the first pic is around page 16 or so in an article about horror movies starting to underperform at the box office; the German pic is in the regular movie review section further in.
Poking around the EW site just now, I found the German pic, which I hope to have linked below. No sign of Phillips so far. If no one else tracks it down by tomorrow, I'll try to scan and post it. |

Friday June 15 07:27:28 2007 Weeds |
I have been watching this black comedy on DVD, and have found a bondage scene for Mary-Louise Parker, the beautiful lead actress. She plays Nancy Botwin, a suburban widow who must resort to selling marijuana, or "weed", as it is colloquially known, in order to maintain her comfortable suburban lifestyle.
Anyway, in the episode "Punishment Light", a security officer on a local college campus apprehends her, and confiscates her stash. She is temporarily bound with black plastic handcuffs; her hands are resting in her lap. I will, of course, compose an Entry for th voluminous Scene Database. |

The Brian's Page relevant condensed version: "but what about all the giggling at things that aren't funny? There's a scene where a character is duct-taped at the hands and ankles after being tortured and having a loved one murdered, and she's in agony, and trying to stand up despite her bindings, and she stumbles and falls. People laughed at her falling down. Then once she gets up, she has to hop to move around since her ankles are bound together. People thought the hopping was just hilarious." |

I added a minor correction to your entry to reflect the fact that the guy is merely posing as a security officer in order to relieve Ms. Botwin of her product -- a detail that adds a little certain something to the scene IMHO. |

The episode teases that Valerie's character is kidnapped so that's why you never get any more scenes of the four B&G co-ed's. If it was like 'Marathon Angels' with the constant shots of the DinD's, it would have been a classic |

No, the clod who confiscates Ms. Parker's stash of marijuana is really a security officer employed by the college. The very street-smart black family to whom she recounts this incident point out to her that no honest law enforcement officer would let a suspect apprehended with such a quantity of marijuana off with only a warning. The security officer was himself a dealer, and had just procured for himself a generous supply under the color of authority. He very self-righteously lectured Ms. Parker while she had her hands bound with those plastic cuffs, all the while exultant over his windfall. |

Friday June 15 14:46:54 2007 DOA: Dead Or Alive |
New film with some interesting spoilers:
Meanwhile, Kasumi recalls her brother, and how he once saved her from ruthless kidnappers. He fought with precision and skill, far beyond any warrior Kasumi had ever known. After saving her, she remembers Hayate's face when a DOA shuriken came to him. With a new round beginning, Tina, Christie and Kasumi wonder where Hayabusa has gone, and go looking for him at Donovan's compound. However, they themselves fall into a trap, and are also captured. |

Anybody know? I'm fairly certain that the only handgag is Lauren German's chloroform scene. There were a couple other moments when a handgag might have made sense, but I don't recall one materializing, and I usually notice these things. I'm hoping to have a boot of the film soon, so I'll check. In the meantime, I added some details about the capture sequences to the DB. |

I just came back from seeing the movie. There is in fact a choloroform scene for Ms. Roberts, but it is extremely brief and for much of it her back is turned. However, we do get to hear some good grunting and mmmffing. And yes, she wakes up locked in a room with no bondage. Too bad, because Ms. Roberts is almost impossibly cute. If they turn Nancy Drew into a franchise with her, I hold out hope that she will get the Full Treatment, given that the movie does not abandon the "Nancy-in-peril" stereotype; it just doesn't deliver on the bound-and-gagged angle, though. |

This gives me substantially more hope for the 2009 sequel than I had before. The chloroform/locked room/no bondage scenario *is* typical Nancy Drew. Let's face it, there's bondage in the books, but not in *every* book. When they make a movie with an established character, be it Sherlock Holmes, Batman, or Nancy Drew, the creative team has to decide how they're going to handle things. Are they going to go "historical", comedic, campy, dark, etc.? If this time Disney decided to go heavy on the tween comedy, who am I to say they're wrong? Nobody's giving *me* millions of dollars to make creative the choices. Anyway, apparently it *is* a mystery, and no bondage in a sample of one isn't a trend. Fingers crossed for 2009!! :-) |

Fingers crossed for 2009!! :-) Read the review in the NY Times for the ways in which the film is NOT faithful to the Nancy Drew of the novels. But yes, I think they generally got the Nancy-in-peril part right. Throughout the film, Nancy keeps on getting threatening phone calls, is nearly run over, and gets chased by the bad guys down a secret passage. I thought we were going to get a handgag during that last scene, but no. I also can't foresee the sequels changing the Nancy character into some kind of butt-kicking judo expert who would easily defeat her would-be captors, either; the emphasis in the film is on Nancy using her wits and intelligence. Emma Roberts is too much of a waif for that to be believeable, anyway. So yes, hold out hope for the sequel! :) |
