I like how the way she was tied up and gagged especially that tight cleave gag with the nice big knot in the middle! I wish that was Cathy Bell from JAG instead.....oh well. |

These shows that figure that plot and dialogue aren't all that important as long as you cut between shots every 2/3 of a second are just so silly-looking. But, yeah, "great little scene" still holds. |

Okay...two dozen caps of tonight's pleasant surprise, plus QuickTime/3ivx and RealMedia clips, now available on the DiDheap. (Sorry if the caps are slightly grainier than usual, BTW. My cable was having a bit of an off-night.) |

I just consulted the Internet Movie Database, and learned that the aforementioned movie is entitled "The Good Teacher", and that it was released this year. The information about it was scant, but I did note that one of the main actresses is Patricia Kalember, so I surmise that she might play the teacher who is bound and gagged by Ms. Eleniak. I couldn't find a Database Entry for it, and since I haven't seen it myself, I don't think I could compose an accurate one. If I do see the movie, and find that no one has composed a Database Entry for it, I might compose one myself. |

Alright Sasha! You just can't beat a knotted cleave-gag! This one might, just might, qualify for best of the season so far IMHO!

But, as so often happens with gag scenes, they had the usual continuity problems. In some shots the ends of the cloth stuck out, and in others they didn't. It's hard to believe the editors don't notice these things. I guess there's nothing they can do about them. Also, she "talked about it" later. Mark Harmon says, "where were you?" and she answers, obviously embarrassed, "tied up in the living room". I'm a gag snob even when it comes to talking about it. She should have said, "tied up and gagged in the living room". |

---- Still, it sounds like a nice variation of that often used gloat of evil captors: "[She can't come to the phone/door..., she's tied up right now."] E.g., Gilligan's Island ("All About Eve"), JAG ("Wilderness of Mirrors"). What are some other favorite setups for this quip? |

Patricia Kalember. There's currently no entry in Brian's DB, so I'd encourage you to add one with as much detail as you can provide. ---- And perhaps its title could be listed with "aka Fatal Lessons: The Good Teacher" (2004). It was listed as "The Good Teacher" in TV Guide magazine, but was listed in my newspaper under the longer title. |

Add to "Why She Might Not Be Annoying":

The Lifetime site has a blurb (see URL below), but it's not very helpfull & there are no pictures of any kind. PATRICIA KALEMBER got her long-awaited & well-deserved DiD-scene & I was watching Stargate reruns of Amanda Tapping *NOT* getting tied up??? Aaaaaaaaargh!!! (I've had a serious crush on Ms. Kalember since "Sisters.") |

The Scene Database lists only two minor scenes on her resume: Fletch Lives! (when she was chloroformed in bed early in the movie) and bound but not gagged by her stalker in the pilot episode for "The Equalizer" (a could/woulda/shoulda setup). |

Wednesday April 07 17:46:27 2004 A Man with a Maid |
> I always enjoyed the Summer Olympics 'floor exercises'
---- In Chapter 7 of the Victorian classic "A Man with a Maid" (which the movie "Naughty Victorians" was based on), Lady Betty and daughter Molly sucker themselves into believing the "Snuggery" is a gymnasium: "Jack, why don't you have those nasty pulleys taken down, they are not pretty, they are useless, and they're horridly in the way!" exclaimed Lady Betty. "Why, they form my gymnasium, your Ladyship!" I replied. "I couldn't do without them!" Molly now joined in eagerly. "How do you work them, Jack?" she asked. "What's the idea of the loops? I'm a dab at gymnastics but never saw this arrangement before." "The loops are wristlets, Miss Molly," I replied. "You must fasten them round your wrists and then grasp the rope with your hand - thus you divide your weight between wrist and hand instead of it all coming on the fingers, as in a trapeze." Of course all this was arrogant nonsense and rubbish -- yet this "dab in gymnastics" believed it all solemnly; it was a fair sample of her ways. "Oh, how clever!" Molly exclaimed in her affected fulsome way. "Let me try, Jack! Alice please fasten me!" Alice complied demurely, with a sly glance at me. "I used to be the best girl at gymnastics at school," said Lady Betty complacently. "Molly takes after me." By this time Alice had fastened the ropes to Molly's wrists and the latter began to swing herself slowly and gently backwards and forwards. "Oh, Mother, it is jolly!" cried Molly. "Do try it!" Ever anxious to show her juvenility, Lady Betty rose briskly. "Will you fasten me, Jack?" she said as she raised her arms for the purpose. "I'm afraid I'm too old and heavy for this sort of thing now! Will the ropes bear me, Jack?" "They carry me, Lady Betty," I replied as I fastened the wristlets to her arms. "Why malign yourself so cruelly?" Lady Betty glanced at me approvingly for my pretty speech, little dreaming that she and Molly were now our prisoners by their own actions. Alice and I exchanged exulting looks -- we had our victims safe! |

Wednesday April 07 21:14:41 2004 Welcome to Woop Woop |
My TiVo recorded this one the other day because of the word "kidnap" in the description. Since it was a guy being kidnapped, I deleted it without further thought. By sheer coincidence, though, I was browsing the database today for movies to rent, and it seems that it's got a scene for us after all.
The good news is that it's re-airing on HBO at least a couple more times in the coming week, including 4:20am PST/EST on 4/9. I'll add the alerts momentarily. |

I'm not sure how many persons anymore can translate Morse code in realtime. Certainly the telegraph is a bygone technology, and the U.S. Navy (another former user of Morse code) no longer uses signal lights on ship-to-ship communications. |

Flashing lights are used all the time, & Morse code is used to encode the letters of the alphabet. Messages may be plain text or in some substitution code, but Morse is still the international standard for the alphabet. Why not use radio? Ships often needs to communicate without leaking EM radiation & thereby revealing their position. So, they use signal flags during the day (flag hoist or semaphore) & flashing lights at night. ...& what the hell does this have to do with DiD scenes? Well, on an upcoming episode of JAG, if Mac & Harm are doing an investigation at sea, a foreign spy captures Mac, ties her up & gags her & is speeding away with her on a speed boat at night, she can still struggle to a flashlight & signal Harm to come get her, using Morse code. :-) ..._ ._ _. |
