Monday May 10 06:34:44 2004 Bondage at Stake |
Does anyone like me perfer seeing an actress tied to a stake as opposed to a chair. I like it because you get to see more of her. Two of my favorites are:
Ginger and Mary Ann in Gilligan's Island's "How to Be a Hero". Jane Russell in "Paleface". Can anyone think of any more. Also, I understand that my favorite actress, Mariette Hartley was tied to the stake in an episode of Bonaza. I can't find that episode on VHS or DVD nor on any of the Vid Cap sites. Does anyone have vidcaps of this episode or is it a "HOLY GRAIL"? Hope not. |

There was a scene in a defunct late-night series entitled "Forever Knight", about a vampire who works as a police detective in Seattle. In the episode in question, a deranged man kidnaps the gorgeous brunette guest actress and tied her to a stake outside a church, and cleave-gags her with a thin black cloth. He believes her to be Joan of Arc. |

I'm pretty much ok with things as is, but wouldn't be oppposed to most of the proposed changes I've seen posted.
The only two points of contention I have, and their minor, is one, I hate to see any posts deleted. I realize there are situations where it must be done, but overall, I would like to see deleted posts moved to AG. One man's poison is another man's pudding. Second, my biggest pet peeve is when a scene or subject has been discussed at length, beat to death and put to bed, and then a short time later someone brings it up again like it's a totally new topic. Perhaps we, or the moderator, could create some sort of "been there, done that" post to let these posters know that subject has already been discussed at length. Just a suggestion. |

Can anyone think of any more? ---- Have you tried using the "Search" functionality on the Scene Database on the keyword "stake"? I got 144 hits on it -- just eliminate its matches for "stakeout", etc. You can also try searching on the keyword "post". It should include such memorable scenes such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("Gingerbread"); Dr. Doolittle (1967); and Dracula's Castle (1969), etc. |

It's very gracious of you to allow these opinions to be aired Brian, for that I thank you. I've never had a problem with the rules. At the same time I've not posted things very often because I find a lot of the stuff discussed is either not worth commenting on or has already been thorougly dealt with. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the forum because I do. As well as a place of common interest, there are no social class barriers, no politics or egos,(most of the time). These are the things I believe to be important. I'm sure there are similar places, where things deemed to be off topic here, are fully accepted. I'd just like Brian to come across a little less stressed in his own posts if he can. You'll live longer mate. |

Monday May 10 09:07:41 2004 On vs. Off Topic |
You asked my opinion her it is:
On topic: "Reviews" of scenes, lists of favorites, Alerts, enquiries into secnes which the title escapes you or certain situations (such as the current in-flight bondage thread), and debates as to what makes a good scene. Off topic: "Casting calls" (i.e., "I want to see Sandra Bullock in the new Wonder Woman movie") Wish lists, and newsbabes. (Especially local ones!) |

I'm not saying that is better... ---- I'm no techie, but doesn't that approach work best when persons post intelligent information in the Subject (or "Title" field), so that one can tell at a glance what the Thread is about? E.g., "Best Nurse in Uniform b&g scene?" Instead, on Brian's Page we often see entries such as "Question" or "Aargh" in the Title field. At least this isn't as much of an issue here as in my previous job, where I might receive an average of 75 e-mails a day, and I'd beg senders to take 10 seconds to type something relevant in the "Subject" field, so that I could organize/prioritize my work. |

Monday May 10 17:49:12 2004 Re: Input |
I think I'd be happy to keep things pretty much as they are. The further we stray from the basic topic, the more "grey area" stuff we get, which is not only more work for The Mod, but will lead to way too many "hey, you left his post up-- what's wrong with mine?" exchanges.
And I say this as someone who routinely has to stick my hands in my pockets to keep from typing snarky one-liner jokes. I mean, I'd love to do it, but I just think it would too quickly get out of hand. |

Mod, I'd advise you change as little as possible. But if you are seriously considering a change, I'd consider allowing (within reason) current events/media that deal with bondage, such as the aforementioned Sara Kozer, the Portland newspaper article, etc.
As for keeping stuff off-topic, please keep off-topic the "dream lists", such as "who would you like to see re-cast in a Terror Among Us remake"? Those posts never go away. Also, keep hentai off-topic. It's not "mainstream bondage," it's cartoon porn, and way too esoteric to be relevant to a mass audience. |

But I don't feel like I discriminate against those sorts of posts. I don't mind, in general, if you discussion cinematic elements of episodes or movies that have scenes. My objection is to Van's tendency to go off on tangents. Recent example. He wrote a long post about how a potential new Tarzan series was set in NY again, and not in the jungle. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I just read a blurb at the Dark Horizons website. It's one of those *very*-early-in-the-process things & may be just an agent's trial baloon or idle talk, but apparently HUGH JACKMAN of the soon to be released Van (no relation) Helsing, is interested in a future project being the next TARZAN... & it'll be set in MODERN DAY NYC!!! What's with Hollywood??? Is everyone oxygen starved by the damn smog??? I can think of nothing the Apeman could do in New York that's a *tenth* as good as what would happen in 19th Century Darkest Africa. The Crocodilemen? The Lost City of Opar? Imagine a Kiera Knightly/Kate Winslet/Gwyneth Paltrow-type Jane Porter, a jungle full of peril (*&* magnificent waterfalls, vine-covered forest giants, the treehouse, etc.), realistic apes & other fauna, skinny-dipping in jungle pools, ripped Victorian bush costumes & chamois bikinis, Jane captured by native warriors, impending sacrifice by some slow &/or cruel method, Tarzan to the rescue... (sigh) Is an entire generation destined to grow to maturity thinking Tarzan is *supposed* to be in New York??? My hope is that after Peter Jackson's *King Kong* comes out (assuming the Sacrifice-of-the-Bride-of-Kong scene is everything we expect), the studios will see the light. Also, Paramount is *still* supposedly developing *Princess of Mars* as a tentpole project. That might help too. |

Monday May 10 21:19:10 2004 WEST COAST ALERT: Johnny Stacatto On Trio |
A few weeks ago, someone posted a possible alert for a DID on Johnny Staccato, one of the "Brilliant but Cancelled" series on the cable channel Trio. Well, tonight it paid off.
Set in a vaguely film noir New York City, Johnny Staccato is a late 50s/early 60s series starring John Cassevettes. In the final five minutes of this episode, aspiring singer Susan Oliver - who also happens to be the daughter of a crime boss - is in a hotel room, tied to a chair with her hands behind her and over the mouth gagged with a white cloth. The good news: She is extremely attractive. The bad news: It's just one shot, with her from behind, so we never actually get to see her face. Also, she's getting smacked around, which isn't pleasant to watch. What's odd is that the bad guy insists on interrogating her while she's gagged. The show aired at 8:30 PM EST. I don't know if Trio delays its programming by time zones or not, so I don't know if this will pan out for you West Coasters. If you miss it, it's not the end of the world. Like I said, she's very pretty, but it's a disappointing scene. (And yes, I've added it to the database.) |

Note: The following is friendly but terse. I'm *not* pissed, but I don't have time to use flowerly 19th Century style prose to soften things. We're all friends here (I think.) :-)
Okay, so every now & then I rant about Tarzan in NY or some other "off-topic" thing that's caught my eye. 1. I'm posting it *here* 'cause there's *some* relevance. (For example, "Tarzan" is a traditional source of DiD-scenes. If "Princess of Mars" ever gets made it could me a real dream-come-true for DiD-fans like us.) 2. Ergo, discussion of Tarzan is (however tenuously) "on-topic"... sort of. Tarzan, or Princess of Mars, or King Kong---we're all a little better informed. What a tragedy. 3. It's not like this forum gets dozens of solidly ON-TOPIC posts every day. Days go by with NOTHING interesting. 4. And finally... What's the big deal with "wish lists?" What's the cost? Who does it inconvenience? What Breaking News has ever been pushed off this forum by someone giving voice to a minor fantasy? Bored? ...then don't read it! 5. Talk about boring... Heather Locklear was hogtied on an episode of "T.J.Hooker." ...years ago. ...& every time you replay the video it will be exactly the same. Get over it! |
