Tuesday May 11 00:02:17 2004 West Coast Alert: BBC America, Murphy's Law |
Well,
Clarifer is right. There's not much talk when a scene came on today. There's are some brief scenes in tonight's episode which is about to repeat at midnight eastern and 9:00pm Pacific. I missed a little more than half the episode but here are the details: Show: Murphy's Law Episode: Manic Munday Channel: BBC America Time: 12:00am ET/ 9:00pm PT Actress: Unknown (attractive blonde) -Somewhere in the last 40-45 minutes, Sgt. Tommy Murphy receives a threat from the mob to kidnap his wife. He asks his partner to pose as his wife. To keep his real wife safe he cuffs from behind, ties her ankles with towel strips and places an over the mouth stuff gag with a towel strips as well. We see Murphy then stuff her into the closet. a little later we see a brief head shot of her in the closet. Finally, later we here her mmmphing for help from the hotel maid. That's it. Thanks Clarifier for suggesting to keep an eye on BBC America. |

Tuesday May 11 10:46:55 2004 Possible Upcoming Scene For Kate Hudson |
The following exchange with actress Kate Hudson appeared on the Newsmakers page of the latest Newsweek (the one with Donald Rumsfeld on the cover):
Q: So you're filming a thriller for a change. How's that going? A: Oh, it's so much fun. It's really great. I've been doing a lot of, you know, being dragged around, tied and gagged - it's excellent. I'll say. Of course, it's entirely possibly she was being facetious. Still, it's definitely something to look out for. My apologies if someone has posted this already. |

Tuesday May 11 12:47:12 2004 Nancy Drew News Item |
"
"On top of the updated feel and POV, publishers have hinted Nancy will no longer become the helpless bound-and-gagged captive of the bad guys, largely due to their need to portray her as a modern, empowered girl who can take care of herself. Long standing industry rumor has it that various feminist and conservative groups have pushed for an end to these scenes in books and shows aimed at children, which portray women and girls as little more than helpless victims before dominant, evil-intentioned males, and are increasingly given sexual connotations. This has reportedly led Warner Bros. to update the character of Daphne in the newest Scooby Doo series to get away from her old image as a "clumsy damsel-in-distress", also reflected in the live action film, and may now have gone over to the publishing industry as well; several Internet sites have built themselves around the Nancy Drew captive theme, and it remains to be seen what fans of the books will think of this change, should it prove to be real. What also remains to be seen is will fans of Miss Drew enjoy this new, radical change or pine for the old, steady image instead?" |

Nothing in the first episode but we'll keep you updated if we get lucky again with this production. It's a pretty good drama series anyway I think, even without DIDs - my regret from the last series that the best and longest gag scene of all, a really tight duct tape gag wound round the head, was reserved for Murphy himself :-( I actually thought the "Manic Munday" episode was in the DB (I may even have added it myself, can't be sure), but blowed if could find it listed there just now, strangely. |

Tuesday May 11 15:21:49 2004 Lauren Holly movie, possibles |
I'm assuming the Lauren Holly private-eye movie on Lifetime on Monday night was a bust? I didn't see it listed until today.
Plus, TV Guide soap update this week mentions Skye coming in contact with her stalker on "General Hospital" and Katie being confined to the psych ward on "As the World Turns." Anyone seen any evidence of these storylines? |

He went on to say that DiD was starting to become considered offensive for various reasons, including its connotations. And as if on cue, this article shows up almost to prove his point. I see no reason why someone can't be empowered and intelligent, and yet still be captured by the villains. Part of good drama is having the ups and downs in the story and in the hero's struggles, to make it easier to cheer for them at the end after they overcome such struggles. Besides, if someone is tied up and that person manages to either free herself, or attract attention and get help, doesn't say positive things about her intelligence and resourcefulness? If they portray Nancy as less clumsy, but still allow her to have her "downs" (including getting captured), I'd consider that a good evolution of the series. Otherwise, I'd say it's a bad idea. |

Posters enjoyed sharring their personal fantasy about a favorite actress or model being bound and gagged, a subject I'm sure most of them didn't discuss any where else. It's sad that the new posters to this board don't have the same outlet that the guys who have been around for awhile had. I personally don't mind reading those posts even if I don't respond to them every time. The one thing that did bother me a little were the follow up whines like "this again" or "that old thread". In my opinion those post are what should have been banned. If you don't like a topic there is a great feature on a computer called a scroll button. If your don't like the idea of allowing those posts here again you might consider expanding the scope of the otherwise neglected favorite scenes forum to include wish lists, favorite actresses who have been in scenes, and possibly stuff like Van's casting call games. After all if posters don't express an interst in those kinds of topics it will still be just an empty page. |

In another spoiler, site says Molly (Lesli Kay) gets roughed up in an upcoming episode, but no details on exactly how. Kay will be leaving the show soon for "General Hospital." She'll be playing the chracter formerly played by Rena Sofer, who was not asked back (annoying voice maybe?)
Plus, Gina Tognoni, last seen holding Tiffani Theissan hostage for eternity on "Fast Lane," will join "Guiding Light" as Dinah, formerly played by Wendy Moniz, now on "The Guardian." |
Tuesday May 11 17:12:22 2004 Re changes to Discussion |
I think Brian does a pretty good job moderating.
" Wish lists " can easily get out of hand and quickly become tedious. If someone is unsure whether their subject is off topic or not, they could simply ask Brian for permission to post it. The only current off topic subject I can think of that could be allowable here are stories like the newspaper article re the journalist who allowed herself to be kidnapped and bound. The fake " I was bound and gagged " posts from sites like Dear Abby can be amusing. Maybe the person posting could send a link. Any articles re real life kidnapping and bondage should remain off topic. Re people who have a problem with off topic posts being sent to AG, I can understand that. Some there can be pretty vicious and unsavoury, but you can scroll past the flame posts without dirtying your shoes too much :) |

I think Xena gave ample proof that you can have a strong and intelligent heroine and still lots of DiD content. It's become an annoying habit to exploit a well-established show or book character (one might even call Nancy Drew a brand), take the name and create a completely new character/movie around it. The new strong heroine has so little in common with the original that she might as well be named Susan Forrester or Jill Brown, but who would go watch the "new Jill Brown movie" (no offense intended towards any Jill Browns around here). I hate what has become of "Charlie's Angels", for example. > If they portray Nancy as less clumsy, but still allow her > to have her "downs" (including getting > captured), I'd consider that a good evolution of the series. That would be real surprising IMO. The news item makes it pretty clear that they want a Nancy without these "downs". I completely agree with you that these downs make the character more interesting, but who is interested in our opinion? A woman can very well kick ass in one scene and become a captive in the next! |

Tuesday May 11 21:22:23 2004 ball-gags on game show... |
Hello All,
Just writing to let you guys know of a game show in Mexico that is very kinky. Maybe you guys already heard of it, but if not, it's called "Gente con Chispa", or in English, People with Spark. The show airs on the Mexican cable network of "Azteca" or "Azteca 13". I'm in Texas and I get it on cable. It airs Saturdays at 7 to 9 p.m. central time. It's a new show that just started in January I believe. Basically, the contestants which seem to be only teenagers and sometimes kids, both boys and girls, have to perform different feats to score points and win at the end. One of the things or a couple things that the contestants have to do are very kinky, and seemed to be borrowed from the bondage world. The first, is one in which the contestants, who normally in this part of the game are girls, are gagged with a ball-gag and handcuff. Yes, ball-gagged and handcuffed, I'm not joking. Then the must try to utter a phrase or some words to the other contestants and they must try to figure out what the gagged and handcuffed contestant is trying to say. The gagged contestant is always standing and normally, the contestant is struggling with the handcuffs and having a hard time with the ball-gag to get the words across. It's great. The next feat, is that all the contestants, both boys and girls must eat a piece of fruit hanging from a string, while their hands are handcuffed behind their back. The teens, must run from their desk, to the hanging fruit and try to eat the fruit. The cool thing is that they run back and forth at the command of the game show mistress. She tells them when to run back and forth, and their hands are always cuffed. Sometimes the fruit falls on the floor and the contestants must eat the fruit of the floor while their hand are cuffed. Yes, a pretty fun game show. Also adding to the excitement is that the girl contestants on the show are usually dressed like their going clubbing. Very nice. At the bottom are some links to the show. -Domino http://www.tvazteca.com/programas/entretenimiento/gente/ http://www.canalsur.es/PROGRAMAS/rtva/direccion_comercial/catalogo/entretenimiento/gente_chispa.htm |

Ah... "What's Opera, Doc?" ...a milestone of Western Civilization. "Kill the Wabbit! Kill the Wabbit! Kill the *WAB*bit!" I found a site with a short blurb: ----- The fantasy film Kingdom in Twilight is based on the Germanic epic The Ring, which was the inspiration for The Lord of the Rings. A blacksmith named Siegfried, who does not know he is the heir to a conquered kingdom, slays a dragon for the Burgunds people and is rewarded with a treasure. Seigfried ignores the curse that goes with the prize and jeopardizes his chances with the lovely Norse queen Brunhild, played by Kristanna Loken. Uli Edel directs the European production. ----- I think the treasure referred to is the Rhinegold, but I can't remember what the curse is about. Obviously more research is called for. :-) |

Court TV is showing a series called "Masterminds" about great robberies. Tomorrow (Wednesday 8PM) there is the robbery at the hotel Peirre.
The footage looks the same as that shot for a Discovery channel show on the heist that aired 3 years ago. If it is the same program repackaged it could have the following scenes. 1) During the intro explaining the previous crimes of a group of hotel robbers we get a long lingering shot panning over a female receptionist bound and tape gagged in a raided hotel vault. This scene is relatively long since it accompanies a long voice over introduction. 2) During the raid on the Pierre a female guest, unable to get an answer from the front desk goes to investigate. She is caught. Later we see her handcuffed, tapegagged and lead through the lobby bound. This is done hastily and has a nice dynamic as the theives rush to get her out of sight. She is wearing a long evening gown. 3) A panning view of the office in which the gang keep their captives including the girl from 2) and a bound female maid, unfortunately there are also a lot of tied male employees. This may NOT be the same footage and all of it may not be used as this is a different program. |
