Sort of agree with Jeb in the Conan book covers of the 70's were quite racey for the time. ***** I don't think the Ginger movies themselves were all that far under the radar back in the early 70s -- people knew they had a lot of bondage appeal, but people weren't that sensitive to bondage back then. It was just another sex thing, and they liked sex things. ***** Huh? You & me, yeah. The people that would go to Ginger movies, yeah. What you meant, correct? The 70's in general I remember sucked and everyone said it sucked and was nearing Taliban standards before people smartened up. Don't you recall how "Soap" was already sqwacked at for the guy sleeping around on his airhead wife and then the guy nailed his Minister's daughter?...bye bye for about 3 weeks I think? a fully clothed comedy. If Ginger had aired on primetime then, it would have got the Soap treatment |

Wednesday December 19 10:02:02 2007 Phyllis Coates |
Some posting about Phyllis Coates got me watching the first season of "Superman" and again enjoying how she played Lois Lane. Lot of screaming of course, but she would put up a fight when messed with. And those over the mouth gags look great in black and white. While enjoying how good Coates looked as Lane I was wishing that Lois had managed a swimsuit scene, I just wanted more of a shot of Coates body. Then I remembered I have a copy of "Panther Girl Of The Kongo," a twelve part serial from Republic Pictures. Coates wears the some style jungle outfit as used by Francis Gifford in "Jungle Girl" another serial from 1941. Mainly to match up with the scenes showing stuntwoman Helen Thruston swinging on vines and diving off cliffs. Coates and Gifford are neck and neck when it comes to who has the best legs, I'd go with Gifford overall. But Coates is good in this movie, smart and tough, screams a couple of times, but that only when grabbed by a Giant Claw. I can understand her reaction. In fight scenes with guys she's shoved to one side and knocked out, but laying there with that already short skirt rising higher you see that Lois Lane of the 50s could have easily handled the short skirts of the 60s. She makes up for being knocked out in the fist fights by killing a lion and a crocadile all by herself. Coates is tied up three times in 12 episodes, nothing to write home about and no gags. That would have made things great. I know serials are supposed to be fast moving, but this one really trucks along, showing the best way to tell one of these types of stories. I'm thinking of writing a jungle girl story, Using both the portrayls of Francis Gifford and Phyllis Coates as models for characters. I've never seen a "Sheena" but could try and toss Irish McAlla into the mix. I think in a jungle girl outing you have to include : tied to a tree, staked out by natives, tied in a canoe or boat, quicksand, getting very wet to where your hair is plasterd back and you can see how great their faces are, Gorilla attack, over the mouth gags, bit gags, and cleve gags. Plus getting caught in snares, nets, and pits. What am I leaving out? In a non-bondage movie question do any of you remember a black and white movie where the characters cut a rope bridge to avoid the natives, sure there was more then one, but also in the movie were running from the natives on a steam boat and were using mattresses piled up to shield them from spears while shooting at the natives. I'm trying to hunt this one down, only saw it once back in the sixties. Anyhow, check out "Panther Girl Of The Kongo," if you would like to see another good performance form Phyllis Coates and also goggle at her gams. Woody |

Wednesday December 19 12:31:59 2007 Coates and Gifford and Jungle fiction |
Yeah, Frances Gifford was right there with Phyllis Coates for me in the late '50's and real early '60's. I can only remember Gifford from Jungle Girl and Tarzan Triumphs, but a kid couldn't ask for a much better 1-2 punch in those days. She was beautiful and sexy in a pure way, if that makes any sense. As for Jungle Girl fiction, I guess it's more a wild west Indian thing, but I would throw in a scene where the girl is tied with wet rawhide strips that tighten as they dry. Always was really turned on by the idea of tight bonds getting tighter. And maybe a scene from some of the Tarzan movies where they bent two trees down and tied someone's legs to the opposing trees, then cut or threatened to cut the ropes holding the trees down. That one always made me hold my thighs a little tighter together. |

Wednesday December 19 12:55:08 2007 Does anyone know of any James Patterson, Lee Child, or of any novels with female DiD's in them? |
I started reading James Patterson recently. Does anyone know of any of his old novels that has bound and gagged females in them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know of any John Mcdonald novels with female DiD's in them. Thanks. Recently, I found a book by Robert Ludlum called Road to Omaha with a minor scene in it. |

Pat Powers wrote: > I've not seen many examples of that, that I know of among critics. Mostly they seem to let the bondage elements slide. I'm sure there's some sharp mainstream blogger who may note such things out there, since bloggers are so non-rare nowadays, but I don't know of any. Do you know of any? To clarify what I meant, many comments from what I remember (sorry I can't remember names) generally *allude* to fetish-oriented content as opposed to just naming the fetish outright. For example(s): Joel Schumacker who directed "Batman Forever"(correct film?) was 'outed' as creating homoerotic superhero suits because they had nipples molded on the exterior of the chest armor (Batman & Robin) -- and there were closeups if I remember correctly. True or not, there was a definite statement made by the director or producer doing that to their costumes. I believe this review (or 'outing' so to speak) was made in the New York Times film review or other mainstream paper. Another review, definitely in the Times as well as other papers, reported the obvious homoerotism in "300". In fact, if you want to laugh your ass off read the review for "300" by googling it in the NY Times and NY Village Voice yet I digress... I honestly can't remember a review talking about actual bondage content in a film but in such a film many elements could (and have) add up to the point that a reviewer or blogger would simply label the film as being exploitive or misogynistic (I wonder what the original reviews for "Ginger", "The Abductors" and "Spine" stated though it's obvious to us). Why it hasn't happened more often is a good question; it might have something to do with them really not recognizing 'intentional bondage' when they see it -- 'it takes one to know one (of us)'? |

Yeah, I've been wrestling with this one for years, when attempting to assign keywords. "Barda" is next week's example, with what appear to be electrical-tape cleave gags of all things. I tend to go with both descriptions just to be safe. |

There's a new still image on pathe.co.uk of Jennifer Ellison in The Cottage. Looks like it could be a decent scene. The film is scheduled to come out on March 14th in the UK. (To clarify: I mean there's a new image *in addition* to the one that was posted a few days back) |

I remember reading in an old Look Magazine a review of The Girl From UNCLE that said the show amounted to little more than Little Orphan Annie in Bondage. Time magazine's retrospective of Charlies Angels (around when the show was cancelled) said it tapped into a sadomasochistic strain of American culture by having the angels kidnapped, tied up, etc. And I remember a review of Lethal Weapon that said it started out kind of witty but eventually winds up with the women tied up in their underwear. I'm not sure how many mainstream reviewers bothered with the Ginger movies, which had more than enough flaws as 'cinema'. In terms of homoerotic stuff, I've seen several critics joke about Mel Gibson's tendency to be tortured in his films (he must be like Terri Hatcher or Heather Locklear for teh gays). |

The moment I read your post I went to my modest collection of bondage in novels to get the title, but to my surprise couldn't find it. I can't believe I threw it away, so will continue looking for it. In case someone is familiar with it it's the story of an evil doctor who harvests organs from real humans. Midway through the episode he kidnaps some woman who works at a homeless shelter. When she eventually comes to she's naked and in a cage where a homeless man is held nearby. Shortly after we find her with a stuff gag and some kind of strap or something holding it in place. She's held throughout the second half of novel. If I find the novel I'll let you know what the name of it is. |

It works very well as an adventure/horror story, and I'll grant you that you can dream up all sorts of scenarios within the framework of Red Nails that would lead to really delicious bondage scenes for hot women. IIRC, the only people in bondage in Howard's actual story were guys, though. > Anyway, I still think that upping the bondage quotient of > mainstream media's not terribly likely, regardless of how > we may view the precedents. I agree that it's not likely the overall frequency will go up, but certainly a few shows could be a LOT more productive, and the quality of the scenes could easily improve. I think improvements in quality are very likely to pass unnoticed. The same general ignorance that makes people tolerant of Loosies will also tend to make them tolerant of really good scenes, so long as they don't involve too much nudity. Mainstream folks zero in on nudity very well. |
