Thursday January 03 00:47:35 2008 Face to Face |
Another example bubbled to the surface. This one I'm sure about, and I did the research to confirm my memory. Here's the dBase entry: _______ Record number: 4320 Title: Surrender (1987) Medium: Movie Actress: Sally Field Description: Daisy Morgan (Field) and Sean Stein (Michael Caine) fall victim to a heist when armed thugs raid a reception, force the guests to strip and bind them face to face in pairs. Stein loses his balance and topples on top of Daisy, much to her displeasure. There follows this bit of dialog: Daisy: "Lie still" Sean: "I'm trying" Daisy (wide-eyed): "Quit moving! Sean (defensively): "I have to breathe" Daisy (through clenched teeth): "That's not what you breathe through!" _______ By "strip" we're talking about undies (bra & panties for Sally). The movie's kinda stoopid, but the stripped-and-tied scene was funny. I also remember liking a later scene where Caine's character looks up Sally's character and asks for a date. Talk about mortified tension! Sally was *so* cute! :-) |

Thursday January 03 11:07:05 2008 Law & Order |
When the detective removed the duct tape gag from the girl's mouth on L&O last night, you could clearly see another, smaller piece of facing tape on the inside of the gag, obviously to make it easier on the actress. Of course we've always known that a lot of tape gags on TV aren't sticky, or are backed by something to make them easier to remove. This is the first time they've made it so obvious. They've apparently abandoned all pretext of realism in this respect. (Who would believe the kidnapper would do that?) Seems like in the 60's when I was growing up, those white adhesive tape gags were usually nice and, well, adhesive! |

So judging by the succeeding posts; this ad is airing in the broadcast football market? Do you remember the time, day, channel? I record any broadcast I watch to fwd thru the commercials; unless something visibly stands out or I'm looking for something in particular I would miss it. I saw it several times during the Capital One Bowl on ABC on New Year's Day (Michigan vs. Florida). It was fairly elaborate for a quick commercial so I'm sure they plan to run it more. I've seen one of the other similar commercials that ran with it on one of the networks, so this one should be back too. Emma Peel/April Dancer - type heroine is punching out goons near the end of it. |

The pic is actually a still that appeared in a TV Mag and is a clearer and closer shot than what appears in the episode. The gag is real but the scene is a bit of the blinkie and the actress (Liz White) is in the middle distance. It is also rather dark. If episodes show in the same order as in the UK, I think it should be in the next one, about 5 minutes from the end. |

> Is this pic you posted FROM the upcoming "Life on > Mars" episode?? There is an alert for a scene with > the cop lady tied to a ladder..is this it, with a > "fake" gag added? Yes, that's pretty much as she looks in the show. There was some debate at the time over whether the pic was a cap or a staged production still, but the gag is just as it appears here. It made me wonder how it stayed up! The shot is static and rather short. All the more annoying is that the putz, Sam Tyler, has a good TAPE gag. |

Yeah, I've been wanting to see this one since I caught the preview but not the show when it first ran 16 years ago (cancelled before repeats--d'oh!), so I was pleased to find it. Only wish it continued until they escape--wonder how it plays out. |

Record number: 13181 Title: Life on Mars Medium: TV Series Actress: Hayley McGroarty, unknown Description: Episode: Episode 2.5 (2.5) At the 50' mark, the female WPC (detective) goes to the shed to talk to gentleman. As she walks into the shed, she finds the mother and daughter (Hayley) standing in a compartment under the floor. As the detective talks to the man, there are occasional shots from above as the two captives are looking up at the two. The captives have a folded white cloth over their mouths, and that gag is held in plave by brown colored gag the is tied around their heads. No shots of their hands or of them being released. |

was reading this month's TOTAL FILM and there's an interview where naomi watts talks about her 'long, long take' where she's tied up and trying to walk, saying that the ties 'weren't stage ties;they were real' and 'we did it about 3 or 4 times,in one take i couldn't get myself up'. sounds really great don't suppose anybody's seen it yet, i know it's due out soon. heard it's a shot for shot remake so there is a lengthy scene if i remember |

Proper medical tape, the cloth kind with zinc oxide adhesive, is among the stickiest of all. It also follows facial contours, sealing well and creating none of those shadows that give away the relatively unyielding duct tape "loosie". Well I remember the "Sunset Beach" scene in which Laura Harring blows a wisp of hair out of her eye while "gagged" with duct tape. :-) An oddity that sometimes crops up in movies is the conveniently packaged gag-size rectangle of cloth tape with a non-adhesive dressing strip along the centreline. It's nice and sticky above and below the mouth, but does nothing to seal the lips. |

Thursday January 03 20:24:17 2008 Re: Law & Order |
Regarding the tape-gag-with-an-inner-lining thing, I think we can probably field a viable tread listing *other* examples (not that I particularly *want* to). In addition to Mad Dan's "Sunset Beach"/Laura Herring example, here's one other: The image below is scanned from the "Special #50" issue of the magazine "TV Zone". It's a shot taken by the "STARGÅTE SG-1" set photographer just after Teal'c rescues Sam (Amanda Tapping) in the episode "Forsaken" (6.18), dBase Record number: 8983. If you look to the left of Sam's hand, you see the knife "Murray" just used to cut her cable-tie ankle and wrist bonds. If you look to the *right* of her hand, you see the back of her tape-gag. There's a quarter-inch rim of black which is the actual back of the tape. In the center is a white rectangle of... gauze? ...paper? The gag is (supposedly) black military "60 mph" tape (see second image), so, obviously, they decided to protect Amanda's warm, soft, *kissable* lips {Sigh} rather than go for absolute realism. This is a surprise? You can't run a movie or TV set and do things that damage the talent. Not only is it not nice, but it causes super-expensive downtime while they wait for scratches and bruises to heal (to the point they can hide them with makeup). I wish they'd develop a better technology, like some sort of hypoallergenic spray adhesive that adheres to the skin but can be removed without damage, but one things' for sure: You can't fault the production team of "Law & Order" for inattention to detail. A city-wide blackout was an important part of last night's plot, and they simulated *all* the little effects in exquisite detail. Obviously, it's the norm in the industry to use "cheater tape-gags". Let's hope that changes, but I'm not holding my breath. |

Thursday January 03 20:54:05 2008 A litle help over here? |
Hopefully you can help me in identifying a scene. It's from a movie in the late 80's or something like that. It's a futuristic film similar to "Mad Max", also set in the desert in which a blond actress(maybe in her mid or late 30s) is b/g for a long time. I remember she's carried OTS and later hidden on a kind of pick-up truck. When the baddies arrive to their destination, there is a line where they mention they have a special delivery or something like that. I'm sorry I don't have more specific information, but I watched this movie on cable a number of years ago. |

I just started reading Michael Connelly's newest paperback release, "The Overlook". The early chapters feature a woman who is found on her bed, nude, hogtied with zip cuffs and gagged with a necktie. After she is released, she describes her ordeal to her rescuers. |

Speaking of Law and Order, did anyone else happen to catch the preview for next Tuesday's SVU, showed 3 shots of a woman gagged with tape. While law and orders don't usually have the best scenes, the next SVU seems to show promise. |
