You said it brutha. Renee or no Renee, I can't watch any more of this. It's sooooooooo bad. Being a huge Bruce Campbell fan, I simply can't bring myself to endour one more minute of this travesty. A few still caps will capture all that is necessary to see in this one. I think I'll leave the clip to somebody braver than I.

If only chanting the words "Klatu Verata Nikto" could erase this horrible movie from my memory. Here I thought Mansquito was the all-time low of Sci-Fi network. It just keeps getting worse. Yikes!

Re: Alien Apocalypse
Well, I think this scene along with all her scenes playing plucky sidekick Gabrielle on Xena, definitely qualifies Miss O'Connor for the DiD Hall of Fame.

I love the concept of the female sidekick who falls into the clutches of the villain and Gabrielle was one of my favorites. Of course, nowadays you have to refer to them as "partners" but we know what's what. ;)

In the category of DiD sidekicks, who are some of your favorites?

Lois Lane
Batgirl
Mrs. Peel/Tara King/Catherine Gale
Agent Dana Scully
Sgt. Dee Dee McCall (Hunter)
DA Alex Cahill (Walker, T.R.)
Veronica (The Lost World)

There are the two "Heathers" from The Fall Guy and T.J. Hooker.

You already mentioned Jennifer O'Dell, who is definitely one of my personal favorite female sidekicks.

I'll add a third Heather, Heather Medway from "Viper." Just one gag scene, but she found trouble plenty of times and always had on some nice outfits. Another favorite was detective Rita Lance (Mitzi Kapture) from "Silk Stalkings" and her replacement Janet Gunn. The two of them were masters of the short skirts, like any cops would dress that way.

I put a few caps up from Renee's scene in the Sci-Fi movie, plus the Tracey Needham scene from "Jag."

Also, Sci-Fi is airing a "Sin City" 30-minute special Sunday night at 11 p.m., according to the Sci-Fi Web site. It's not listed in your TV grids. They promoted it tonight, promising new footage during the "Phantom" movie on Sunday from 9-11, whatever that means.

Be warned, this is not for the squeemish. He fills their mouth with razors and then wraps clear tape around her head. This isn't shown, only implied, but the overall impression left a bad taste in my mouth. Not an enjoyable scene.

On the whole, this first episode showed the show to be surprisingly entertaining. I can see it lasting for several seasons, with many DiD possibilities.

In the sub-category of non-TV media, the prototype is Agent U-69's sidekick Gwendoline (also later "embodied" by Tawny Kitaen in "The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak").

Other favorite TV sidekicks were Maxwell Smart's Agent 99, and the "Mission Impossible" gals -- although only Elizabeth Ashley managed to get in a standout b&g scene.

Just check out "Doctor Who" in the DB. Many of the female companions, including granddaughter Susan, eventually got some sort of treatment, but outstanding among them were Polly, Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith and Peri Brown.

One scene I rue to this day having missed, happened to Judy Loe as Lulli in the '70s show "Ace of Wands." She was a cute sidekick if ever there was one!

Is Dana Scully really a sidekick? IIRC she is actually the senior officer, though she and Mulder behave as equals.

Jos Dids is updated!
Happy Easter to everyone on this board!

As a bonus, here is a scene from Dr Quinn with Jane Seymour where she asks to be bound and gagged. Wow, what a lady!

Indeed, the gags were of the suspension of disbelief variety, as it appeared to be very simple to simply move one's jaw up and down and communicate.

The writer/director, Josh Becker, has a website, link found below. He responds to practically every question fielded to him on his message forum...posts get forwarded to him first, which eliminates clutter/trolling.

If you peruse the archives, you'll eventually wind up with a portrait of a film snob who perpetually insults/dismisses the work of Spielberg, Tarantino, etc...which would be fine if he were able to appear even 1/10 as competent. "AA" was absolutely awful, and not in that good, B-movie attempt kind of way.

Same comment with the "Silk Stalkings" mini-skirted Sgts duo of Mitzi Kapture and Janet Gunn. In fact (just before the end of her run on the series), Rita Lance was promoted to Lieutenant while then-husband Chris was still Sgt.

Speaking of police sergeants, another hottie was Glynnis Barber's Harriet Makepeace ("Dempsey and Makepeace"; Dempsey was her superior as an American Lt.), who got in two nice b&g scenes.

And in the Could/Woulda/Shoulda dept, rookie cops Kim Basinger ("Dog and Cat") and Michelle Pfeiffer ("BAD Cats") had their early TV series cancelled after a few episodes, and could only get in one (confirmed) b&g appearance each.

As no-one else has asked i will? is this a new picture or an old one? Can we look forward to another JA Did scene this year? seems to me she has enough promising movies in the works - sin City, Fantastic 4, some sort of underwater treasure hunt thing

If you look at it from the perspective of what their characters do on the show, then yes, their equals. You could even say that Lois Lane and Clark Kent were equals as both had the same job. Lois was actually better at her job than Clark.

From our unique perspective, however, there's no question about which "partner" is the one who's going to be bound, gagged, and waiting to be rescued. I know there are some, but I can't recall an example of a male lead being in that type of role reversal. On Wonder Woman, for example, Steve Trevor was a sidekick even though he was a superior officer to WW's alter-ego.

When I use the term "sidekick", I guess I'm looking at it from that perspective.

Some more names I can think of:

Det. Trudy Joplin (Olivia Brown on Miami Vice)
Cordelia (Angel)
Micki (Friday the 13th)
Grace Chen (Martial Law)
Victoria Escalante (Patricia Camhi on the 1990 Zorro series)
Gabrielle (Counterstrike)
Danielle (Allison Hassock on Cobra)

Interesting comment buried in the generally scalding reviews on IMDB (quotes mine):

1) Renee O'Connor is a major draw for the audience, "but they cover her face" and she's off-camera or sitting down for a large portion of the movie. Huh?

Also, on the trivia page, it's mentioned that Lucy Lawless was originally offered O'Connor's role.

Interesting. I also found this tidbit on her IMDB page:

When the producers of Xena: Warrior Princess became aware of how athletic her body was, it prompted the new costume for season 2. It became a running joke on the show that the costume continued to shrink as the seasons passed.

All My Children Possibility
Hey guys. As always, I'm here with the lowdown on possible soap scenes coming up. All My Children may come through later this week (and early next week) as Greenlee (the ever desirable Rebecca Budig) and a character named Lily are going to be kidnapped. This turns into some hostage situation to lure out Greenlee's husband (his brother wants to kill him, blah blah blah). Even better, the character Kendall (Alica Minshew) also gets kidnapped as well, and all three are held hostage.

This could turn out to be the scene of a lifetime or the biggest disappointment ever. I've been dying to see Budig and Minshew get the full treatment for some time now.

optimism
Although I don't often agree with "Anubis," his call for optimism is a good one.

For example, my dream for "Alias" would be for the sisters to get handcuffed and ballgagged, then to have to try to communicate. The background music would be that annoying "This One's For The Girls" song. This would be a cliffhanger for an episode or even the season.

Will that happen? Not unless someone on this site becomes a TV writer. But we can hope.

Re: Alien Apocalypse
I checked my scene times and they appear to be fairly accurate. I left out a few brief shots of Renee gagged between the 95-100' mark when Bruce Campbell and the rebels storm the work camp. There's also a nice little handgag scene around the 95' mark with a hot rebel girl who's sleeping on the ground. Some schlub clamps his hand over her mouth and tries to have his way with her.

The record has been added to the DB.

You may get your wish. I hear Budig may be leaving the show.

Of course, this could be some bullshit to drum up interest in the show.

They have lost quite a few actors and actresses lately...three of the big ones have left in the past month. I think a lot of fans have been mad, so maybe something exciting like this will keep fans (and us) happy.

From what I've heard, they're not going to let Budig get away...hopefully she'll stay on there a long time, and be kidnapped many, many times. :-)

Thanks VERY much, Jos! I've been meaning to find a scene collection (Chivalry or the like) with the Dr Quinn scene on it, and now you present it to us on a silver platter. Actually, I meant to thank you for the other scenes you've offered on your site as well.

The way I see it is even if the Sin City scene is kinda lame, Jessica Alba is showing that she's still not against doing steamy bondage scenes.
It increases the likelihood that she will do bigger and better DiD scenes in the future.

Has that ever happened to anyone? the scene you always hoped for come true?

Mine did when Jamie Luner got bound and cleave gagged in just her bra and panties. First time I ever saw her on that awful sitcom years before she did Melrose Place, I hoped to see her bound and gagged wearing exactly that. And I always figured "never gonna happen".
