A quick look through your caps for soaps shows a few that we all missed, including one on Days of Our Lives (May of 2004, I think) where the damsel has a lot of rope sloppily tied around her and an apple gag. Anyone know who the actress is? And my apologies for getting the Julie Andrews identification wrong. And I did try looking at the vidcap, but apparently so did everyone else, since that link on G-Man's "not real" site has already gone over it's limit. |

As someone else already pointed out Gardner did get the whole nine yards in "Bhowani Junction," although she was around 33 then. Gee, I don't know-is that young enough for you? Anyway, Rosemary Lane got it too, in "The Return of Doctor X" from 1939, where her character's captor was none other than-drum roll, please-Humphrey Bogart! Hmmm...was that the only time Bogie played a binding baddie? I guess that was just another reason Lauren Bacall never got it. Now THERE was someone it would have been fun to see tied up! Even today at 81, I think she'd play the indignation thing up to where it'd be worth taping. |

Oh God yes I HATE scenes like the "Saboteur" one. When I first saw it many years ago it was as if Hitch was trying to noise me up personally!! The line about "being tired of having tape over her mouth and eyes" (paraphrase) has to be one of the all time great dissapointments.....And to my mind at least the old boy was definitely of our ilk, or at least understood the power of such imagery.... |

Though it's a minor point, it wasn't Rosemary Lane that everyone's remembering here but her younger sister Priscilla who was featured in The Saboteur. I've always wondered if Hitchcock shot any footage of Ms. Lane's captivity that was unused in the released version. Hitch once shot a couple days' tests of Grace Kelly's shoes on a film and when asked why he was taking so much time on a minor matter replied "Haven't you ever heard of a shoe fetish?" That answer was probably half truth and half joke since it fits both his fanatical attention to visual detail, no matter how small, and his tendency to indulge his sexual fantasies on film (quite often, as he got older, murders but also things like the tying of Maureen O'Hara in 'Jamaica Inn'). I suppose that if he had filmed any unused bondage scenes with Ms. Lane that we'd have heard of it by now, though. Interestingly enough, Priscilla Lane was in another near miss scene in 'Arsenic and Old Lace' when Raymond Massey and Peter Lorre seem about to do away with her. Though she isn't tied, Lorre jams his handkerchief into her mouth as they try to force her into the basement. She's saved by a timely interruption and spends the rest of the movie trying vainly to convince a harassed Cary Grant that they tried to kill her. Later Lorre and Massey show their binding skills on Grant. I submit that the tying job on Grant, hands behind the back, ropes aound arms and body, knees (with slip noose to throat), ankles, secured to chair, and gagged with stuffing and cleave, still ranks with the most thorough to appear in mainstream films even to this day. And they passed up Priscilla Lane to do it on a guy! |

They have her tied up and are loading her into a car. I saw the same on a documentary many years ago and never again since....I think that it was on the set one of his earlier British films before he crossed the pond. |

does anyone else dream of a remake like Arsnic and old Lace but put a leading lady in the Grant role, and if you do, what leading lady of today would you put in that role, and the roles of Massey and Lorre.
If there are any other remakes that featured a putz but would like to reverse the roles, what movies would they be? |

I have seen another very early creative effort by Hitch, a very short story of a woman apparently being snatched off the streets, bound hand and foot and thrown into a canal. The Hitchcockian punchline is that the story was the woman's dream while under anesthetic for a tooth removal. I think the complete story is in Donald Spoto's book The Dark Side of Genius, which contains several good bits about Hitch's romantic obsessions. Mr. Spoto has a schizophrenic attitude toward the Jamaica Inn scene, calling it on one hand "an appalling exaggeration" while on the other noting that it's the only scene in the film that shows any real passion or enthusiasm. |

Wasn't it from some bio-thing on the E! Channel? It had a look & feel of an Irving Klaw film. I'm sure it's bound (pun definately intended!) to turn up on DVD sometime. |

It appears Virginia "Mr. Blonde's Surpisingly Hot Sister" Madsen will be playing a kidnap victim in the upcoming movie Firewall. The movie stars Harrison Ford, so hopefully they'll slip in a little Raiders of the Lost Ark homage. |

And hopefully we'll get that if Virginia Madsen DOES get bound and gagged in the movie. But I see your point, though, it is unlikely. If I were the director I'd go for it. |

Saturday August 27 17:10:15 2005 The Ice Harvest |
I just watched the trailer for The Ice Harvest and I can't wait to see this movie. I thought it was really cute when John Cusack walks into Connie Nielson's office and says, "Lets's go", and she rolls her chair out from under her desk to show him she's tied to it. He says "Oh" and she sarcastically responds "Yeah, Oh". Then she frustratingly bangs her head on her desk when he asks "You don't happen to have any bullets for this gun do you." I think this might be one of those rare movies with a really good scene that is also a really good movie as well. |

Perhaps you noticed, by my original post was at 4:50AM, at which point I'd had a few drinks and was rather tired. In moments of lucidity, I can in fact tell the difference between the Lane sisters. There was actually a third Lane sister, the ugly one, to put it blunkly, whose name escapes me. All three were in a John Garfield's first movie, Four Daughters, which has lots of good dialogue but contains no scenes whatsoever and is therefore heinously off-topic. In terms of Rosemary vs. Pricilla, I suppose the name is a minor point; on the other hand, the other poster is correct: Rosemary Lane did get gagged in The Vampire Bat. Rosemary is usually brunette, not blond, like Priscilla. Anyway, maybe it's not such a minor point. If someone had said that Jennifer Tilly had a scene when we were all thinking they meant Meg Tilly, I'd be crushed. I've always thought Meg Tilly was incredibly hot - in a sexy librarian kind of way. Priscilla Lane, who in my opinon, was the cutest, had no scenes, but a couple of near misses. Too bad. |

Pretty curly haired blonde (may be Lilian Macias(?) wearing skimpy white tennis outfit is grabbed by the bad ninjas about an hour into the movie. She's picked up by the arms and legs by the ninjas and tossed into a car. Nice shots of her legs. Next she is shown bound to a chair in the bad ninja hideout. Next scene, there are some long distance shots of her tied to chair with thin white cleave gag. A few minutes later, some guy who looks like Abraham Lincoln is dragged to chair next to her and beaten up. While she watches this, we see some very nice close up shots of her. Good ninja (in white of course) starts taking out the bad guys. There are a few nice shots of her reactions as he takes out the bad guys. Good ninja then frees the girl. After every commerical break, they showed one closeup shot of the girl when she's gagged. Nice surprise scene. |

> can we please not do this again? this comes up > periodicaly and all it does is conjure up images of > guys-not what we're here for! Nah, not really. At least not for me. I think "what could have beens" are interesting food for thought, or at least wishful thinking! I mean, guys are out there in mainstream movies, often tied & gagged, and not thinking about them won't make 'em go away! :-) Besides, I have noticed (and I'm sure a few others have as well) that fairly often, guys' ropes & gags are much more efficient & restrictive than their female counterparts (example: in the western movie "Red Sun", Ursula Andress & a male friend are both tied & OTM gagged by the baddies. When they are released, Ursula's gag is merely pulled down, but when the guy's gag is removed, he has a nice mouthful of packing pulled out). Now why do that to HIM and not HER? Another gag example that comes to mind is in "The Ref". When Kevin Spacey & Judy Davis are both tied & gagged, her gag is merely a cloth stuffed into her mouth, but Kevin has a tie or belt or something tied around his mouth holding in the packing. A minor point, but I see that pretty often, the director (or whoever) chooses to make the putz's bindings & gags a lot "better" than the ladies'. Therefore, I've thought from time to time that I wish that, if a guy just HAS to be in the scene with the damsel, at least her bindings could be better than his, or at least as good! It IS curious. I wonder why this is so often the case. Maybe it's that age-old chivalry thing...take it easier on the lady. Kinda sucks for US though!! :-) |

Why is the leather gag in the following listing "interesting"? Is it different in some way from other leather gags? If so, how?
7469 Title: War of the Worlds Medium: TV Series Actress: Rachel Blanchard Description: Episode: "Candle in the Night" (2.15) Grabbed by a couple of baddies who throw a hood over her head and drag into a car. When she's brought to the hideout, the hood is removed and Rachel sports an interesting leather gag which is removed almost immediately. |

Saturday August 27 22:48:13 2005 Angels & Demons |
This has probably been discussed here before but the book Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (the "prequel" to The DaVinci Code) has 2 scenes. Early on, a prostitute is tied to a bed with velvet cords by the villain. Later, in the heat of the action, the female protagonist Vittoria is B&G in the villain's lair.
Given that The DaVinci Code has been made into a movie (no scenes unfortunately), I wonder what the chances of Angels & Demons making it to the big screen are? I certainly have some candidates for Vittoria from amongst a fine crop of Italian actresses... |
