Thursday August 25 06:06:34 2005 Surreal DiD Scenes |
Most DiD scene setups are rather predictable -- Brian's Pagers can figure out not only that there'll be a strong likelihood of a B&g scene, but how it'll unfold.
But there ARE times when one is really jolted. I don't mean when your Wish-lister gets a full-treatment -- that's not an infrequent occurrence. I'm talkin' about those "bolt from the blue" DiD scenes where you had to ask yourself: "Just what substance(s) were the scriptwriters using when they thought up THAT scene?" Here are some of my favorites: 1) Max Knight: Ultra Spy (2000). Rachel Blakely tied to a chair & gagged near the climax of a sci-fi TV-movie. Nothing exceptional about that... until the set breaks into a full song & dance number to KC and the Sunshine Band's "That's the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it, uh huh uh huh..." 2) Las Vegas ("Hit Me!"). Not only was it a shock to discover blonde Heather Stephens hogtied & gagged on her hotel bed with yellow bindings, but to combine it with the closing punchline of Tony Orlando performing a live version of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree"... 3) The Scarlet Letter (1995) w/ Demi Moore, et al. Not even during my daydreams during an English Lit class did I conceive of "How about changing the ending of that Hawthorne classic to have all of the 'witches' Bit-gagged for an extended scene?". |

The picture's from River Queen, the new film from Vincent Ward ("What Dreams May Come").
The lady in the canoe is Samantha Morton, who has evidently got caught in the conflict between the Maoris and British in 19th century New Zealand. It's due out in NZ in October; December stateside. |

Thursday August 25 12:17:12 2005 Holy Grail Dilemma: The Captain And Tennille |
October 11th is the release date for a DVD box set of the short-lived 70's variety show, "The Captain And Tennille". Most definitely a horrible show, but it did contain one of my personal holy grails: Toni Tennille, in her peak 1970's cuteness, bound and gagged with a scarf during one of the sketches.
So, the dilemma is, is a ten second holy grail scene worth paying fifty dollars for a multi-DVD set full of nine hours of a bad 70's variety show? |

Does anyone else get amazed when you go to BestBuy or some of these stores and see the amount of crap on DVDs? Does anyone else say "who in their right mind would buy this?" I actually include some TV series in that, even "Knight Rider" which had some nice DiD scenes. I mean $60 for a season? That's a lot of money. |

Thursday August 25 14:31:18 2005 We interrupt this comic to bring you an important message... |
Today's comics have too many ads in the first place, and I really hate the recent introduction of postcard ads inserted into the books.
Until now. The image comes from the postcard insert in issue #17 of "Marvel Knights Spider-Man". Now, I don't read anything close to the entire Marvel line, so I don't know how many other titles may be carrying this (I bought four other Marvel comics the same day and none had it). Anyway, nice surprise. |

Thursday August 25 14:37:53 2005 The Brothers Grimm |
Lena Headey, the female lead in the Gilliam film is captured a couple times.
The first is with a chain around the ankle in a barrel. The second has her manacled to a chair. The final one has her being lead by a rope around her neck. Her wrists are manacled and her torso is wrapped with rope. She sports a nice cleave gag. Lots of emotion coming from her. |

I offer Catwoman #16 as counter-evidence. She wasn't quite as unzipped in the story as on the cover, but she was definitely bound! (And if there's a little artistic license on the cover, who are we to complain?!) |

Regarding this newly discovered scene, as described:
Her wrists are manacled and her torso is wrapped with rope. She sports a nice cleave gag. Lots of emotion coming from her. The Brothers Grimm was written by the same person - Ehren Kruger - who wrote The Skeleton Key. He (she?) obviously likes cleave gags. |

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, DC Comics published numerous comic books with covers depicting gorgeous damsels bound and gagged. Rarely, however, did the bondage depicted on the cover actually occur in the story. This was especially true of their "Wonder Woman" and "Lois Lane" titles. Paricularly memorable is a "Wonder Woman" cover that shows Diana Prince running toward a gorgeous blonde wearing a hot pink minidress. She is bound and gagged in a kneeling position, with a terrified look in her eyes. Her gag is a white cloth drawn tightly over her mouth, and she is secured with rather intricate ropework. Her terrified expression is the result of her seeing two huge dogs behind Diana Prince. This bondage does not occur at all in the story, however. I think DC Comics used these bondage covers simply to enhance sales. |

I won't see "The Brothers Grimm" 'til tomorrow, but #1 of the "couple" [sic] is set in a torture chamber. This week's "Behind the Scenes" on "E!" was (& is) about "...Grimm" (check your local listings), & there's a scene near the end with Terry Gilliam, the director, fiddling with the mechanism that controls the length of the shackle chain keeping Angelika (Lena) in the barrel. Actually, it's a half-barrel, with a large, slowly-rotating & descending chopping head above, so it's sort a cross between a food processor & a pipe snake. Terry keeps yelling things like "Try again, Angelika! See how far you can get out now." (Yes, he *does* call her by her character's name. The segment is discussing how dedicted & single-minded Gilliam gets on the set.) Incidently, Lena as Fredrika is *HOT*!! The URL leads to the BIG vversion of an image of Fred/Lena in the "Damselmatic 1800". So... is the movie any good? The previews look good... but the previews for "Van Helsing" looked pretty good too. |

It's fairly late in the movie (it's during the big fire where the little boy is snatched and the third-act vengeance is set in motion). I'd guess probably 30-35 minutes from the end (the movie runs over 2 hours uncut). |

How can one travel through a country with a kidnapped princess? I would never have come up with the idea of stripping her down to a black leather bikini, then posing as a traveling sex toys salesman. Then, when you're pulled over by a sheriff, you cooly show off your "Bondage equipment model". As you run through your sales script, her vigorous stuggles and mmphs through her leather restraints must obviously be part of the sales pitch... |

Thursday August 25 21:39:48 2005 "Jungleground": Treasure in the Bargain Bin |
Just thought I should let y'all know that on a visit this p.m. to my local Fred Meyer store [Kroeger's affiliate in Oregon] I came across a bit of tresure somewhere between the deli counter & the produce bins. To wit, it was a DVD version of "Jungleground" selling for a mere $5. And lemme tell ya, Torri Higginson's taped & tapegagged scenes are better than ever. !!Que Mujer!! Also, as has been rightly pointed out by others in this forum, much of what is reproduced under the 'Platinum Disc' label is poor quality, but in this case I can honestly say that their remastered product is excellent. Anywhooo, it's certainly a good reason to drop by your local super store to pick up a pound of ground chuck or see if the New Zealand Braeburn apples have come down a bit in price. |
