Friday March 05 02:48:58 2004 STRIPERELLA alert |
The SPIKE network cartoon Striperella finally came through with a B/G scene Thursday night. Striperella poses as an undercover journalist investigating a magician/ventrioloquist thief in Vegas (don't ask me). Anyway, she tries to interview the ventriloquist, who gets wise to her intentions and invites her on a tour of his lavish estate. Once they are in his basement, he slaps some handcuffs on her, slaps some yellow duct tape over her mouth and stuffs her in a crate with the intent of sawing her in half. Because she's Striperella, this ends much the same way as the Bionic Woman episode, where she explodes out of the packing crate. Though the scene is lightning quick, the joke continues as Striperella, now in full costume, stands over the villain and scolds him with the tape still over her mouth. Eventually, she tears it off and gets on the business of vanquishing the villain. Nice little scene. It should repeat on SPIKE on Monday at 10 p.m. CST. Scene pops sometime after the 20-minute mark on this half-hour adult cartoon. |

I had no idea this cartoon was still being shown. This is an excellent description of the scene. The scene is too brief, in my opinion, but still delectable if the viewer directs his complete attention to the episode. If you don't mind, Kevin, I'd like to compose a Database entry for this episode. |

Friday March 05 14:24:44 2004 Hope & Faith alert |
I saw the preview for this and thought it was a possible-record, then I read the TV Guide listing and now it's a sure-thing to at least record.
Kellp Ripa gets rejected as a juror on tonight's episode and starts mouthing off in court. That's what they showed in the previews. The listing adds this teaser: "Hope won't take her rejection as a juror lying down. And before the verdict is in, her soap opera experience will come in handy." What experience can they be referring to other than her bound and gagged? OK, it's probably a million other things, but I'll record just in case. |

Someone on the west is going to have and fill in the details of the scene because ABC News thinks we give a crap about Martha Stewart instead. |

BTW, the Martha Stewart verdict live coverage has just cut in right as GENERAL HOSPITAL was getting under way. I get SOAPNET, but this STILL annoys the hell out of me. |

Friday March 05 15:22:37 2004 GH scene came and went |
When ABC finally cut back to GH, Courtney was out of danger, at the courthouse and trying to keep a lid on her abduction so that it wouldn't interfere with her testimony. So whatever the scene was, it appears that it came and went in the first 10-12 minutes of the episode. |

When I saw her at the courthouse, unbound, I knew we'd missed it. Damn ABCNews -- doesn't it seem like quite often ABCNews cuts in during a scene or is it just me? |

Friday March 05 15:47:56 2004 Re: GH scene came and went |
I saw the scene on a channel that didn't cut away to Martha Stewart, I have it on tape actually. It shows a couple of quick shots of the blonde blindfolded and cleave gagged, then someone walks in (doesn't show the person from the neck up) and pulls out a knife. The scene then cuts back to the courtroom for some talk, after a few minutes the blonde walks in and says her car ran out of gas. I only skimmed the scene, but it wasn't much anyway. |

Friday March 05 16:18:58 2004 Nestor Burma caps |
Anyone know of anywhere I can find a lot of Nestor Burma caps, from a lot of the episodes that had scenes? I saw the one scene at Fuzzweb's, and I'd like to see any caps of the other scenes that are in the database, if possible. Thanks. |

Friday March 05 16:26:43 2004 One Life to Live |
I was so peeved about getting screwed out of the GH scene (I've already started looking in dropping cable and getting a dish so I can get Soap Network.), I forgot to post that Eve Macbain is tied to a chair in the final scene today on "One Life to Live". So that's two scenes with in a twenty minute span for you West Coasters. |

Friday March 05 16:50:32 2004 DID-worthy premium channel? |
Frequently it seems a lot of the VCR-Alerts features a scene on a premium channel such as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Movie Channel, or a varient of one of these. I suppose the argument could be made that when subscribing to just one you'll "eventually" see the scene sooner or later. But when it comes to first-run which would you say has the better chance? Not looking to start a debate, just observations from those who have/are subscribed to more than one of these at the same time. Also a related question, which tends to re-run the classics (i.e. Bound, Head Above Water, etc) more often then the others?

Here in L.A. it was not preempted, but it must have happened in the first THREE minutes of the episode, because I tuned in at no later than FOUR minutes past the hour, there was some courtroom talk, THEN she comes in and says she ran out of gas (after the prerequisite "where is she?" "maybe she's all tied up?" lines by two other characters). I missed it, DESPITE the alert, because, unfortunately for me, it was inaccurate. Grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble . . . (will someone please post a few pics on their site? please?) |

Am I correct in my understanding that the damsel in question is Alicia Leigh Willis? Because, wow, she looks a lot different than in that Another World scene with the time bomb (which happens to be among my all-time soap favorites). |

To Raffish: Thank you for posting a clip, and yes, that is Alicia Leigh Willis (she's easy to recognize, considering this is the fourth time in the past year she's been gagged and/or blindfolded). |

The scene popped about 2:40 in and lasted around thirty seconds, with a cut to the courtroom bisecting it. |

This'll be the only additional thing I say about it, because I'm responding to an equally non-constructive posting. C'mon. If someone says it occurs in the first 10-12 minutes, it sure implies that at the very earliest it would occur in the midway point of this (the 5 or 6 minute mark), but more likely it implies that it lasts - off and on - THROUGHOUT those first 10-12 minutes. I'm certainly not blaming anyone, I've been guilty of far worse mistakes than not paying attention to when a scene pops. But c'mon, a mistake is a mistake, however minor it might be. Kevin obviously didn't look at the clock, just guessed. But next time 'sometime at the start of the program' would be heck of a lot more helpful (10-12 minutes is a very specific statement). Okay, enough explanation. C'est la vie. |

I haven't kept a tab since I got digital cable, but that's my best reckoning. Showtime and its spawns run lots of movies that were actually made by Showtime and many of those have bondage themes -- e.g., "The Fifth Corner", the newer TV movies produced by Roger Corman, etcetc. ...Meanwhile, HBO runs some stuff, but don't hold your breath. Skinamax is basically a tease factory, though they do run some 'classic' Tarzan flicks and other stuff of interest at 6:00 a.m. on weekdays. As for The Movie Channel, it's owned by Showtime, so you'd basically get recycled stuff and 'seconds' there. |

It means tape the first 10 minutes and you will have the scene, which was the case here. It's a hard habit to break, trying to use as little tape as possible, but I've learned my lesson by missing the start of to many scenes trying to do just that. And it's not that the tapes are expensive, they are just starting to take over the house (100+ easily, plus a BIG box of Jay L tapes.) I've switched pretty much to using my computer to catch scenes. 1,400 and growing on a thing smaller than one VCR tape. |

As far as first run I would say it's a tie between HBO and Starz. For the older stuff, half the alerts out there seem to be for one of the Cinemax channels. (but oddly, rarely Cinemax itself.) |
