OT, but it goes up and down. Kind of normal for the site.

Database updated
Hullo all. I added the info for HitchHiker's Guide To the Galaxy, and finally got around to submitting a correction for Phantasm II. This movie had 3 lengthy, well-lit scenes with gags for one damsel, and it only had a little one line entry in the database.

I hope everyone has a happy Mother's day! -Val

Yes, that's fair enough. "Black Panther" is by all accounts a well-made film that now stands as a valuable historical document, though for decency's sake it could have waited a few years and been a bit less graphic.

I'm not suggesting this should be a rule, but I'd like respectfully to ask DB reviewers who know a production is closely based on actual tragic events, to say so in their posts. That would allow prospective viewers to make up their own minds - and, of course, it's extra useful info about the film.

BTW, the damsel in "BP" is initially also blindfolded with the flesh-coloured Elastoplast, producing an almost completely faceless appearance.

House of Wax
......opening today on U.S. screens, starring our super-sexy buddy Elisha Cuthbert. Here's an excerpt from a review at the movie news site Chud.com:

"Pretty soon Cuthbert is kidnapped and subjected to some impressive torture (including having her mouth superglued and an unfortunate incident with her finger and a pair of wire cutters) before the rest of the kids show up and we’re off to the races."

Despite that, I'm guessing the bad guys don't mess up Cuthbert too much since she's clearly the heroine of the piece and her character's likely destined to survive at least to the end of the film. I won't mind sacrificing a few of my Fandango dollars to find out.....

BETTIE PAGE MOVIE
HBO WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE A MOVIE OF THE LIFE OF THE MOST FAMOUS BONDAGE MODEL EVER. I THOUGHT THEY HAD PICKED AN ACTRESS TO PLAY BETTIE AND HAD SET THE CAST. HAS ANYONE HEARD ANY MORE ON THIS?

There was a picture in the NY Daily News a few months ago of a very dishy looking Gretchen Mol that was taken on the set of, IIRC, "The Ballad of Bettie Page". I thought I had a scan of it but can't seem to find it.
It wasn't the classic Bettie look, either, but still enormously attractive: sweater, knee-length argyle skirt, & saddle shoes.
Mmmm... saddle shoes.

I have never seen elastoplast in a single US production, only in the UK. I'm not even sure they sell elatoplast in the States.
It's interesting that the flesh colored brand is virtually invisible when applied to the face due to the way it stretches over the lips rather than wrinkling over them.
Its also more effective than using clear tape, which doesn't stick as well as elastoplast either.

After checking with the IMDb the title now seems to be "The Notorious Bettie Page". More details can be found at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0404802/
And stop yelling at us, for crying out loud.

It's actually a brand name, like Band-Aid, covering a vast range of medical dressings including cloth, mesh and plastic adhesive tapes in a variety of textures and colours. The elasticated plaster, available in white and European flesh tone, was the company's first major product, giving it its name. This, I think, dates back to the 1920s, or even earlier.

I believe it's still available in Britain and the Commonwealth, mostly on small rolls for strapping, but also in widths of at least 3 inches. The white stuff used in "Okavango" was presumably the most readily available medical tape in Africa at the time, and Camille Coduri got the "faceless" treatment with the skin-coloured variety in "A Touch of Frost" a few years ago.

As regards adhesive tape, UK usage differs slightly from that in the Americas. We call waterproof cloth tape "gaffer" whatever the colour, weave or adhesive, though there is an increasing tendency to call the grey and silver versions "duct" tape.

The tough, relatively unsupple stuff called "gaffer's" in the US is known here as outdoor tape, or 100 knot tape if produced for aircraft and military use.

Plain vinyl tape, usually called "electrical" in the States, is "insulating" over here.

We have Scotch tape here, but our generic name for clear cellulose tape is Sellotape, the local market leader.
In Australasia Scotch tape is sold under the Durex brand name, which in the British Isles now means rubber contraceptives! Much amusement in UK stationery shops when green Aussies come in asking for a roll of Durex.... :-)

OLTL handgag
A blonde actress on the show (not Bree Williamson, I forget who the other one is, though) is harrassed in a parking ramp by an older man on the show and eventually handgagged at about the 40 minute mark. More handgagging shown later in the hour as scene continues. He may have strangled her. Not sure. We'll find out Monday. If she's unconscious, maybe it will lead to bondage.

You may be interested to know that Paige Richards has already starred as Betty in Betty Page - Dark Angel. not sure of the origins of this film but i did pick up a region free DVD through mail order late last year. It includes re-enactments of some famous BP photo shoots.

If this movie has a gag scene when Sin City doesn't it will prove that anything is possible.

This post was deleted.

house of wax
Saw house of wax today and was extraordinarily disapointed. Elisha is strapped to a gurny-ish thing halfway through and her mouth is glued shut, but I thought she was going to have a full out tied behind back about to be waxed scene, but there was nothing like that. However, the movie was incredibly in all other respects.

In this case,
perhaps better to suggest a forum that would allow answers to the suspension question.
Believe (Homepage link) one would?

Alphabetical list
I am almost done completing two alphabetical lists (one by actress, the other by title) of every bound & gagged scene that I am aware of. So far there are over 2300 scenes. Where can I post it? It would be a great companion document to the database right here.
