The Women's Murder Club on ABC?
Supposedly ABC is "developing" a new series named "The Women's Murder Club" with ANGIE HARMON in the cast. {Schwing!} According to the imdb: "A homicide detective, a medical examiner, a newspaper reporter and a young assistant district attorney work together to solve homicide investigations. Based on a book by James Patterson." Actually, there's an entire *series* of Patterson WMC books, but I've never read any of them.

So... who's read the books? There's not a lot of info out on the series yet, but it sure sounds like this could be the ideal DiD premise to me!! :-)

Back a couple months ago, this Spanish soap had the 3 (or was it 4) women tied to chairs & cleave gagged. 2 questions:

1) someone had asked if anyone had the ID for the actresses. Anyone know who they are (were)?
2) How is this scene still not entered in the Database? As someone who missed it entirely, I obviously can't do one but surely someone who saw it could...it was all everyone was talking about for a solid week.

Not that it would have produced, but let's hope this series lasts longer than Angie's last series "Inconceivable" which lasted all of 3 episodes in fall 2005.

A few quick searches through a few of the books using Amazon's 'search inside this book' feature turned up nothing of interest for us.

Searches on the web indicate this series is scheduled to debut June 1.

Comic Strip Database
Damsel in Distress Databases page has been updated to include comic strips.

There are currently about 40 entries. I'm certain that there are more out there, especially in strips such as Brenda Starr, Steve Canyon, and Modesty Blaise.

If you have additional strip data/scans I'd appreciate hearing from you.

I have read the first two books, called "1st to Die" and "2nd Chance" and there is nothing of interest in there for us. I think there is at least a third book but I am not sure of the name - I believe, not surprisingly, it has a "three" or "third" in the title.

I like Patterson's books but the main heroine cop, Lindsay Boxer, lacks the charisma of his other and more famous detective, Alex Cross. They have already made films of Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider from books with that character

The premise of the Womens Murder Club books is that the 4 women (occupations correctly described by Van) all became drawn together in the first book and suddenly become best buddies. They are portrayed as much cleverer and harder working than any of their bosses and solve the crimes in a very modern independent woman way over bottles of wine and gossip. Yadeyah !

I therefore don't think any of them will end up as DIDs although they could always investigate a case of a kidnapped girl or similar in future.

There is no trailer online. You can likely get the promo by recording Lifetime Movie Network tonight from 7 to 11 p.m. It'll show up at some point.

On the web casts, it lists Danica Mckeller as one of the writers. Don't know if she's written this movie, but would be great if she wrote the scene to tie and gag herself.

Terrific job on that Pofoz. I had not a clue that newspaper comic strips were selling on Ebay too.

I used to have a gazillion strips cut from the paper. There might be more than a couple of them around, I just don't have the time to look. My house is such a mess that finding comic strips is about the least of my worries. My site eats up what little free time I have.

But a few things I remember: The Rip Kirby strip, besides having great art and being a hell of a read was a bonanza of heroines getting bound and gagged. But he drove me nuts because to my memory, every damn time he'd gag a girl it would be with a triangular cloth that hung way down below her chin, which I don't like at all. Not sure if the artist liked the look or it was just easy for him to draw but that is the way it was.
Steve Canyon has bound and gagged girls everywhere to, but almost all his gags were just roughly drawn rectangles meant to represent tape over the gals mouth, so I didn't find them all that erotic either.
There was a comic many years back called Jane Arden I believe. I can't remember if she was a reporter or what, but they did a story that sent her back in time to the old west once. The bad guy caught her on a riverboat, detective gagged her, but a nice tight one, well drawn and not covering her chin, tied her hands and threw her overboard to drown. She floated with her gagged face above water for weeks, with many nice underwater shots of some great legs as her long dress billowed out. And get this, to make matters worse, they had a hammerhead shark circling her in the water! It must have gotten a little lost! But bondage, Mississippi riverboats and tied and gagged beauties aren't something you find every day!
Last I think my all time favorite was the last incarnation I know of of the Lone Ranger on the comics page. This one is a dandy adventrure strip and drawn by comics legend Russ Heath, so the artwork was superb. It featured several stories with tied up heroines and good old Russ put nice tight cleave gags on every one of them. Nice stuff and I'd love to find them collected in a book somewhere.

Hey Raffish, sound like a good book. I checked the database on the off chance that a book might have an entry but didn't come up with anything even when I tried just typing book under medium.

First, Raff, if you get a moment, any chance of a few more details on the bondage in the book, types of gags, etc. and maybe your take on how necessary it is to the plot? In other words how likely it might be to also make it into the movie? That's always a crap shoot but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Oh, and as a PS, your website rocks! You are doing a wonderful job there buddy. Hat's off to ya!

Lastly, Brian, are books something we want to add to the database? If we already are, forgive me, but nothing came up in my addmittedly very quick look. But they certainly are mainstream media.

Well, the bondage is pretty much essential as far as I can tell, though I'll be very pleasantly surprised if the scenes are presented as explicitly as they are in the book.

In the book, Suki is captured twice. The first time, she's stuff-gagged, then tape-gagged on top of that, then bound hand and foot with tape. Next we see her, "She lay spread-eagled on a mattress in the middle of the floor, wrists and ankles securely bound with silk bands. Jersey's gag had been replaced with one that was more effective, and more hygenic. With the new gag in place, she could barely grunt ... Several other silk bands had been looped around her hips and rib cage, preventing all movement of her abdomen." She's nude at this point. And then, the water torture upon said abdomen. She doesn't remain gagged the entire time, because her sadistic ex is interested in hearing her scream.

She gets out of this one, but a few chapters later, she's knocked out and captured again, along with her protector/putz who's facing his own nasty peril. "Suki's wrists had been bound in the same manner as Frank's, held firmly at her waist by a rope around her middle. Suki stood there in jeans and a bra, shivering, lips puffed around the heavy gag."

A page later, after cutting her remaining clothes off and knocking her out with a press to her carotid artery when she's not so happy about that, "He tied her spread-eagled and naked on the ground, out in the sun, thirty feet or so from the anthill. She came to as he tied her arms, and she fought him again, still gagged, but he overpowered her with little trouble and lashed her to the sand, stretched tightly between the stakes."

And then there's some stuff with hot-oil torture in place of the cold water, and the gag does go away for the same reason as above. And then she frees herself, as does Frank, and appropriately nasty vengeance is administered.

It could be very nice, or Hollywood could mess it up completely. Either way, the book does not suck.

This latest link is to the film itself, so a big thanks to "unheralded" who posted this today, also on Rob's. He says the action begins just after the half way mark, but recommends the whole movie as it's good in its own right anyway. I'm about to take a look myself.

Not being familiar with ProfozPage's list, I can't tell you if any of my suggestions will be redundant, but unless you're too self-conscious or don't think you can concoct a good cover story I believe the vast majority of the old Nancy Drew novels would be worth perusing.

Should you favor a more mature heroine-and again, aren't worried about how reading it may make you look-one definitely not to miss is Dame Agatha Christie's "The Man in the Brown Suit." I simply have never come across a better scene in all of published literature-told in the first person to boot! And if you can finagle it, get the audiobook version so you can hear actress Emilia Fox-who, incidentally, is in the database for a scene from the series "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)"-deliciously relate this sequence.

I posted a review of this recording on this page that may be worth taking a look at. If memory serves, it was the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Actually, no offense, but it is not the episode "Ghost of General Lee". You see, I don't have an image I could upload of it, but in "Ghost of General Lee" Daisy is wearing a white-ish top. Not to mention she is handgagged with the mans left hand and in the picture, it is the mans right. Not trying to be rude, but it is definately not the episode "Ghost of General Lee". See, I found this picture on the Overlaid site, but have never seen the episode. And Ive tuned into CMT for quite a while trying to catch it.

Possible alert: Crossing Jordan
Given this show's track record for not panning out, I would never post a possible alert based on an episode description, but the opening minutes of Crossing Jordan tonight showed two men and one woman found murdered by a hangman, and all were gagged. Since this looks like the killer's M.O., there's likely to be at least one live scene later in the show with future victims.

Nothing much on this one. One scene that I caught of damsel, but still no gag, on the other hand she's still bound. I wish I knew more about this show as it's curious about the way the main heroine has been out of the loop for so many shows with only a couple of shots of her predicament. Something must be going on behind the scenes I don't know about.

CAREN KAYE
Saw the entries about her a day late, but still felt I had to throw my two cents in. Back in the day she was one of those actresses who seemed to appear in every mystery show on TV, but could never quite catch a break with a series. In those days she was high on my wish list of actresses I wanted to see get gagged. So when this scene popped it was really a big deal for me. Not a bad scene. Unfortunately when it's shown on TV these days it's cut slightly. No major surgery just nips and tucks here and there. For example the one straight on scene of her when the guy crosses in front of her runs a little longer than when it's shown now. Caught the SLEAUTH airing in the hope they might have the full scene, but alas it's cut as usual.

They had another woman pass away a few days ago and everybody has been pining over that,(plus the show has relied heavily on flashbacks since then.)
