Don't worry. The SciFi Channel may have been stupid enough to cancel SG-1, but they aren't dumb enough to stop airing SG-1 reruns. I'll keep an eye out. Maybe they'll do a Season 10 marathon right before the final episode.

"Next"clips
Clips from this movie are up on my new blog. They are posted on rapidshare.com with a file size of 9.4mb. Quality is not perfect because its a pirate copy but perfectly watchable. Good scene, not long enough for my liking.

Sinful Intrigue actually has 2 scenes if I recall correctly. The first is at the beginning of the movie, where a women dressed in her nightgown is grabbed by an intruder in her kitchen, has her hands tied behind her back, and has her gown ripped open. (It turns out the intruder is her husband and they are playing a game.)

This scene is not listed in the scene database for this movie.

Bondage in ballet?
Interesting story in the Kansas City Star today. Seems like someone has finally set Prosper Merimee's "Carmen" to music. Oh, that's right-Georges Bizet already did that, didn't he? Well, I meant music that's danced to rather than sung. No indication as to whether the title character will face the challenge of performing any leaps or spins while her wrists are either tied or cuffed. If there are any ballet fans from KC hanging around here, a first-hand report would be appreciated.

Anyway, seeing this jogs my memory of a long-ago outdoor performance by an amateur community ballet group which I attended. I recall a piece-the name of which escapes me-in which the female lead was supposed to be some kind of ethereal creature, or something like that. Anyway, she was "captured" by her male partner, who was portraying a centaur or some such thing. The choreography involved him carrying her overhead while she held her wrists, bound with a red sash, high above her. I think I've got some color slides (those were what we used back in the old pre-digital imaging days, kids, when we wanted to see our pictures without the bother and expense of printing negatives) of this buried somewhere. Does this ring a bell with any of you ballet aficionados?

And while we're on the subject, are there any other works in the ballet or modern dance repertoires that would be of interest to us? I think I heard a while back of a Joan of Arc ballet; how did they handle her captivity and burning? If any of these works have been committed to film, they might make nice database entries (hint, hint).

Getting back to "Carmen" for a moment, can anyone who's read the original story tell us whether the oft-repeated arrest scene with its wrist-binding/handcuffing really occurs there or if it was added later by Bizet for (ahem, ahem) dramatic effect?

And finally, which actress gets your vote as the best Carmen or Carmen-inspired character? Mine goes hands behind-er, ah, hands DOWN-to Dorothy ("Carmen Jones") Dandridge. That image of Harry Belafonte chasing her down and then lashing her ankles together as she beats his back with her fists is simply unforgettable. Dandridge well deserved becoming the first black performer to receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination for this film-and she probably should have beaten out Grace Kelly for the little bald guy, but that's neither here nor there. I'd give an honorable mention to Beyonce-is she still just Beyonce or has she gone back to using "Knowles" with it?-for a convincing pretend-handcuffing in her "Hip Hopera" take on the character a few years back, and if she were still with us on this earth, a lump of coal in in her next Christmas stocking to Rita Hayworth for not giving us anything in "The Loves of Carmen."

Come to think of it, did Hayworth EVER get it?

The "Scene Database" doesn't have any entries on Rita Hayworth, but fortunately Mariska Hargitay does have three.

The vidcap that sticks out in my memory was from "Carmen on Ice" (1990), with Olympic gold medalist figure skater Katarina Witt.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't familiar with Watch Me and might have to track it down.

OtW is definitely good fun...mental note to include it in next week's guest update.

Empowerment comics
Has anyone ever heard of a comic book called "empowerment"? I'll give a link to a description of it, but here's a brief taste:

Methinks thou hast confused Hayworth with Jayne Mansfield, who by Mickey Hargitay begat Mariska.

What happens in these 3 parts? Is it just a trilogy or a while series of films?? None are listed in the database (unless I typed 'em in wrong!).

The actual title is "Empowered", and if you look back a few weeks, you'll find enthusiastic discussion of it here. Published by Dark Horse Comics, and orderable through TFAW.com.

By the way, TFAW.com is already taking pre-orders for Volume 2, due for release in September. Given the shift in tone as the first volume progressed, I am guessing there will be less bondage in the next one, though I'd be amazed if there isn't at least a bit.
