Raffish wrote: > I don't want to get too off-topic Actually, this related to an (appears ongoing?) DB & Alerts debate If "Cards Fan" doesn't like it on Discussion Page? We can continue over on Database Corrections? If you can contribute your thoughts. I'd be interested. **** I started off by making second-gen VHS compilations from full broadcasts recorded earlier. ****** Yeah, never a problem there. The problem was with the ongoing Pause&Record button-First Generation compilation tapes. These were the interested in scene-time This sounds similar, so: Two solutions offered were the "Lead up to scene" & the "scene time" Believe scene time won out because you could set your VHS machine. (I don't believe I even have the lead up listing notes anymore?) But there problems too with the varying commercial times in different countries, or even differing stations in the US. Advice since has been to give yourselve 10+/-mins to account for this. As said, be interested in a 3rd solution |

Ah, missed this. Still "live recording" going on Raffy. "Live recording" a better description so I'll use it. Okay, when we had the sqwacking and irritated going on over the varying scene times, one of the possible solutions I got was from the Major. Where the leadup scene in his clips could be used in place of the old lead up lists. The Editor-ID clips focus more on Titles/Ep Titles and been trying to redo them all like majorjohns.com with that in mind. I've tried talking some staunch "live recorders" into Video-Editing too, but I understand their compilation interest. So I'd be interested in any ideas you have |

I have about 20 shows on my DVR that i can't figure out how to dub the "good stuff" to a master DVD so I just have let them lile up on the DVR....i figured there was some way to rcord them to a DVD-R and I have a stand-alone DVD recorder but couldn't figure out how to do it. |

Yes, but so don't push it with "Cards Fan", we can continue this on Trades, or email? the Major used to have this free program that you could select, keep and burn to disk in similar quality. I'll look it up |

Sure...I don't know that I followed all of what you were explaining here, but I'm happy to help brainstorm over on DB Corrections. Seems like most of the confusion could be prevented simply by indicating "times with commercials" or "times without commercials"/"times from DVD" explicitly, as often as we can. As long as the reader knows which one applies, s/he should find it easy enough to convert to the other with a little basic math. (Confession time: dating right up to my addition of scene times to the entry for "The Cottage" tonight, I've generally mentioned this only when constructing an entry from a commercial-padded broadcast. Otherwise, I've just assumed that folks would infer that my scene times were based on the uninterrupted original. Might be better not to assume...) |

Raffish wrote: > Seems like most of the confusion could be prevented > simply by indicating "times with commercials" In for a penny, in for a pound now.. No, varying commercial timings can throw it off (normally +/-5mins, 10mins suggested). As said, not just between countries, but between same show on different US stations. That a cause of the confusion, hurt feelings of someone that tried, "tell the guy to tape the damn show himself then!" etc etc Ongoing You record like me and don't encounter this. Hey, we go after foreign stuff without an episode title or anything. We have the extra material to work with. But your "Live recorders" don't. Normally waiting on known scenes (in the DB) to come up for their compilations. One has had to get me to ID scenes they forgot about. Figure with our additional material can come up with an accurate alternative to scene times...Clip with lead up time one of them Following now? |

Even casual collectors have more hardware/software/informational tools available to them than ever before. If they're still getting thrown off by the fact that (gasp!) different broadcasters place commercials differently, that's their problem. You do more than enough without feeling responsible for picking up that kind of slack. >Following now? Possibly not. |

In honor of the almost-weekend (to which I for one am looking forward after a week full of unusually tedious meetings), the traditional Friday guest and subscriber updates are up. "The Cottage" is in the cottage as well. |

Doesn't look to be a scene for Liv Tyler but hopefully she'll get the gag one of these days, perhaps in a Hulk sequel |

Friday June 13 20:28:54 2008 Sci Fi movie ID please |
This are caps of a TV show with fairly realistic binding of the heroine. A tight cleaved gag and nice binding of wrists and ankles. She is stretched out in a sofa and then tormented with spiders. Alas, it was a nightmare (was it?). Can anybody ID the movie and the actress please? |
