As long as we're talking missed opportunities . . .
. . . and the death of Dave Stevens, let's not forget the movie version of the Rocketeer. When Timothy Dalton caught Jennifer Connelly snooping (and wearing THAT dress) and then cornered her and all we got was a lame (implied) chloroforming - -

- - it was as though millions (well, at least hundreds) of fans cried out with a single voice and were abruptly silenced.

Jeez, did they even READ the book?

Exactly the same thing happened in an R-rated erotic thriller called "Where Evil Lies." There are NO bondage scenes in this movie about white slavers kidnapping Los Angeles strippers for sale in Botswana. Their victims are all kept in a cell. Bumbling heroes are searching for them, but we have NO idea when the women will be shipped to Botswana. Completely killed whatever suspense there might have been in the movie. It was so badly done in every respect (not much nudity or sex in the film either) that you have to wonder what the director thought he was doing.

ID's? - Finally!
The damsel in the first pic (sitting in the bed) is German actress Ingrid Andree from the movie "Peter Voss der Millionendieb".

Re: Missed opportunities
One of the all-time missed opportunities - Mariel Hemingway in The Mean Season. We never see her while she's held captive, but after being resuced, she has what looks like a cloth gag hanging around her neck.

She also has rope burns on her wrists. {Sigh}

"The former Brookside star was tied up, gagged, spent night after night in the freezing countryside and even split her head open for the role – and she wouldn’t have missed it for the world."

Re: Jennifer Ellison in 'The Cottage'
Rather see this film than 'Funny Games'. Much more lighthearted and looks to have been a lot of fun for the actress to shoot.

I used to live in England back in the day. This was just about the only thing that would make me buy an issue of the Sun!

This also happened to Alison Armitage in an episode of "Acapulco H.E.A.T.". She is overpowered by the villain. In the next scene in which she appears, she is bound in a closet with a cloth that was obviously used to gag her hanging from her neck. This was immensely disappointing.

I'd say the most blatant missed opportunity was in the "Dead Things" episode where three geeky wizards use a magical McGuffin to take over a woman's mind and force her to do as they will. Almost immediately, the conditioning breaks down and one of them clubs her to death as she attempts to escape. What a waste. It would have been so easy to explore the slavegirl aspects of this, and with three horny geeks as her masters, much opportunity for humor would exist. But no.

I hated this ep so much I wrote an article about it. See homepage link.

Ginny Weasly and Luna are gagged late in Book V (Order of the Phoenix). There are some DiD moments for Hermione in Book VII (Deathly Hallows) though no gag.

And before Brian's Pagers knew that Willow would eventually receive the full-treatment in "Normal Again", we'd agonized over the episode where the three geeks discover the means to turn themselves invisible, and when snooping Willow stumbles upon their lair a piece of duct tape held by an invisible pair of hands approaches her mouth. Cut to commercial.

When the episode returns to the three geeks, the inside joke is that they're too engrossed in playing the arcade's video games to gloat over having Alyson Hannigan as their captive...

BVS "Gone" (6.11) is a *CLASSIC* missed opportunity. A pity Adam Warren's "Empowered" books weren't out yet. Post-Empowered nerds would have taped Willow from the ankles up. ;-)

And speaking of Adam Warren... if you haven't yet bought your copy of "Empowered 3"... DO YOURSELF A *BIG* FAVOR AND FIND A COPY *RIGHT* *NOW*!!

Re: Missed opportunities - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Also on BTVS...Charisma Carpenter getting bound AND GAGGED in a cheerleader outfit in the epidsode "Some Assembly Required". There is a very VERY nice hang gag when the zombie first snatches her. I also love the blindfold on Charisma as she pleads with her captors. However, after they take off her blindfold and she screams like crazy... "HEEEEELPPP!!!" they only threaten her with a metal dissection pan of some sort to keep her quiet. WTF?!?! They just pulled off the strip of WHITE CLOTH that blindfolded her. Why couldn't they knotted a nice tight cleave in her mouth?!?! Still...one helluva scene and Charisma eventually gets bound and gagged later in the spinoff Angel in some of the best scenes ever.

Civil, up on your Fraus? Good, as I have more gagged Fraus to ID and have quite the backup going for entry into the DB

Why didn't Brian trade some of his useless personae for "The Translator" at the deadline? Missed opportunity

Then there was the episode of Alias where a guy says re: Jennifer Garner and Maria.. whatever her name, 'tie them up'. Cut to commercial. Back from break--they're free, although Garner refers to escaping after they had been 'secured'.

There Martine Beswick from "Thunderball" Her charchter Paula is abducted the SPECTRE thugs, but not bound let alone gagged. As a result, she ends up popping a cyanide pill.

Re: Missed opportunities - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
How about the episode of the old WB show Grosse Pointe that Sarah Michelle Gellar guest starred on? She wanted the writers to write her a lesbian storyline on the show-within-the-show, and the writers decided to go with a ripoff of the movie Bound. Of course, comical misunderstandings caused the entire thing to collapse before they did so much as a table read. What a waste.
