Major John
Truly sad news.
Will miss his clever site and
contributions to this page.
Just came from his site, anticipating the
"bathtub scenes" update and was horrified
to read about his tragic death.

This would be an extremely cruel prank,
conisdering he was such a big part of our
community here. Saying that you are closing
your website and saying that someone died tragically
are two very different things. Toronto is a
city of over 2.5 million people.
Finding an article about this may be difficult considering we don't know his true identity in a city that large.
For now pray for his family
and friends. I'm sure we will all learn more in
the days to come. My sincere condolences.

Thanks for the info, but lets make sure that everybody realizes that I didn't post the "Lakeshore West, Friday at 11 PM' info, unsigned responder to my original post did.

The Toronto Sun search engine doesn't play well with Comcast, (page cannot be displayed) so, I couldn't find anything at that site.

I tried searching "Lakeshore West" at the Toronto Star website, no joy.

I know this may seem insensitive, but after the Derek Barker episode (50+. overweight, grandfather killed in Iraq and absolutely no mention of it on the reputable news sites, or the Iraq war casualty sites) one wonders.

Yes but you assume Derek Barker was his real name. People who practice this hobby have been known to go by an alias.

And how do we know he was a citizen of Toronto? How did we know his "real" name was Brian?

And what could he possibly gain by faking his own death? Come on people.

Here's where the anonymity of the internet leaves some of us in a quandry. Ah yes..there are conspiracy buffs aren't there? Here's a clue..I spent years researching the Kennedy assassination..literally years (albeit not full time as I do have a day job) and guess what? He was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald with two shots, one fatal, from the sixth floor of the Texas SchoolBook Depository.

God bless Major John.

If you would have followed the original thread when "Derek's son" posted that his father was killed in Iraq, you would remember that there was no reporting anyplace of a 50 something navy reservist and grandfather being killed in Iraq. Nobody fitting Derek's age and branch of service was reported KIA on any of the officail sites when his 'son' posted that Derek was dead.

All we ever had was that one post and a few 'how dare you question me' posts.

Given the number of Iraq war casualty 'watchdog' groups and the number of down right anti Iraq war sites, it is pretty hard to believe that none of them would at least mention a grandfather reservist being killed.

It was reported that Several of his models described him as being obese to the point of having to use a cane. unless the Navy has greatly reduced its physical standards in the past 13 years, he never would have been allowed to serve in the first place.

As to Major John, all I was saying that there was nothing on the Totonto Star website about someone being rundown by a drunken driver in the last few days.

This could be an editorial decision because drunk driver caused fatalities are so extremely common in Toronto that they just aren't news, or, the website is a just such a condensed version of the news that there just wasn't room, or it never happened.

Judging from the stories about street racing, it is hard to believe that the reporting of drunk driver caused fatalities would just get dismissed out of hand.

His death might have been reported on the Toronto Sun's website, but, again, its search engine doesn't work with my puter.

Reply: MJ's Technical Help Required
Problem 1
We have thousands of video clips in MPEG2 / DVD format.
We would like to select from these and convert them to Real Player - however, our video program refuses to
co-operate (unsupported file format - clunk!)
From MJ's notes, he mentions 'Convert to AVI for Edit' (?) HELP!
What is that, and how can we get back to RealPlayer v ideos?

Problem 2
(from Stephanie) - I'm burning DVDs for MJ's orders - I have no trouble burning one at a time, but it's slow.
MJ has 3 DVD RW drives - NERO lists them all when I go to burn DVDs, but it switches back to one when I hit enter ?
I would like to burn 3 at a time if possible.

I could try to help you with these problems but the problem is there is no Email address for me to get to you.

Dark Harbor
This is the title of Stuart Woods' latest thriller. The protagonist, Stone Barrington, is trying to solve some baffling murders on an island off the coast of Maine. Traveling to the island to assist him is his friend Holly Barker, also the protagonist of several other novels by Stuart Woods. Holly is a tall, very good-looking and athletic strawberry blonde.
She is kidnapped while jogging on the island; she is knocked out by the driver of a car that comes suspiciously close to her. I read ahead and found that she wakes up tied spread-eagle to a bed, and gagged and blindfolded with duct tape. I have been waiting a long time for Ms. Barker to be bound and gagged, and my patience has been rewarded.

Derek Barker I didn't believe because of the info I had about him. But I think the Major may well be dead. After all, one doesn't go out and buy a domain name and hosting package, then fake their own death a couple of weeks later. With Derek, it was no secret that his business was doing miserably. MJ seemed to be pretty sucessful. So for now, I'll go on the assumption that he's gone and offer my condolences.

The only odd thing is the lack of commentary from Jay L on the situation.

In Nero, to burn multiple DVD's at once, hold down control and select multiple DVD drives when the prompt comes up - all 3 drives should be highlighted. Keep in mind that burning 3 at once may stress the machine and result in failed burns if the computer system cannot keep up (burners must get a continuous stream of data or it will fail - newer versions will slow down and even stop if necessary, but this also increases the odds of a bad burn).

You need some software to perform the conversion process from MPEG-2/DVD into AVI format. There are commerical solutions out there (google for "DVD to AVI"), and there are more difficult manual solutions ("DirectShow Graph Editor" is one that comes to mind). I'm sure he's got some existing program to do the conversion.

Presumably, after conversion to AVI, there is some editing to take just the portion desired. Several tools available out there also for this - Adobe Premiere is one that comes to mind but it's expensive. I'd check and see if that's on the computer as well.

Finally, you should then be able to use RealPlayer's encoder to convert the edited AVI into a RealPlayer video. Hope this helps.

Moderator,

I didn't slag anyone. I just brought up a point of concern. You've lumped me in with other posters who claimed he may or may not be dead. I felt it was odd the site was running, business as usual, so soon after his death. I think it's odd, there should be more sensitivty to the issue of death. Other posters have come on here and said how sad they were and I said I thought it was odd. I don't like this form of censorship, it's unfair and frustrating that others could not see my post and form an opinion on the matter.

While understand the reasons for the Moderator's ruling on the matter in principle, I have to agree with Boras that basically saying "pay your respect to the Major... all other posts on the subject will be deleted" is unfair. We already had a confirmed case of a poster faking their death (Derek Barker), and something about the Major's sudden demise doesn't sit right with me. If I'm wrong... then by all means, my sincerest condolences to the Major's friends and family.

But you can't take everything you see on the internet at face value, and in light of other incidents that have occured in the past, is it not valid to raise one's doubts about the validity of the claim? We're not trying to posthumously insult or disrepect the Major, nor are we denying that he was an excellent contributor to the DiD community, we're simply pointing out that it's entirely within the realm of possibility (and has supporting evidence) that the claim that Major John has died may not be accurate.

ID this hottie?
So I came across the following CBS soap scene but couldn't identify it. Can anyone help?

Character is Victoria, held captive in a treehouse by Gary. My guess is that this is from Y&R, which has characters by those names -- but I'm not sure about that, besides which that show's Victoria has been played by four different actresses. There doesn't seem to be a DB entry matching these particulars.

Hey Vatos,

I was looking around for anything new for our hobby in light of the recent sadness and I found something that I think we all would enjoy. It's a 3D animated pic of new DiD archtype character Paula Peril. She is gagged & tied to a chair in the with the classsic bomb set to go off right under her. Check it out!!! Anubis is right.

It is indeed from AMW several years ago. It starts like this db entry ...

Record number: 7792

Title: America's Most Wanted
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Unknown

Description: Episode: Unknown

The episode features a story about a blonde woman who gets help from the wrong guy when her car breaks down. The man [snip]

... but is different. Her car breaks down at night in a deserted area. An apparent good samaritan startles her and asks if she needs help. She tells him no thanks. As she's walking back to her car the samaritan follows her from behinds bushes then handgags her from behind and drops her to the ground. He duct-tapes her eyes, mouth and hands and throws her in his truck's cab.

He drives her to his farm house (several close ups of her face as she peeks under the tape blindfold to see his moustache). He guides her (still gagged, bound & blindfolded) into his house where he assaults her (not shown).

She's next seen the morning after where he drops her off by pushing her out of his truck along a deserted road, still taped up.

Later, she has flashbacks while recounting the incident to the local police.

Several good closeups throughout.

Hope this helps.

That's def. an AMW scene and one of my favorites. I only have a clip of the shorter version, do you have the longer one? (The kidnapper tells the woman to take her clothes off, although you don't see anything.)

My clip is pretty short as well, but I've tossed it online since we're talking about it...might or might not have something you're missing. (QuickTime 7/H.264 format as usual.)

There are three girls bound and gagged in this movie; they are all gagged with white tape. Two of them are captured together. In one scene, they are partying with the killer when he makes some clever comment. In the next scene, they are both bound and gagged, struggling furiously, making terrified sounds through their taped mouths. Please be warned, there is some rather horrific and disquieting violence in this scene.

I just finished reading this novel. Holly Barker's bondage is prolonged; she is kept captive for four days, tied to a bed and gagged and blindfolded with duct tape. Her captor periodically pulls the tape off her mouth to feed her a candy bar amd give her a drink of water, and even lets her relieve herself into a bedpan.
In a ploy for freedom, she tells him about funds she has deposited in an offshore bank account while her mouth is brifly untaped. He quickly retapes her mouth, but she has piqued his interest, because the next time he visits her, he tells her that she is going to electronically transfer the funds to him.
He unties her feet from the bedposts, then secures them together with duct tape. He unties her hands, and warns her to not attempt anything foolish. He holds her by one arm while she hops over to a chair; he then secures her torso to the chiar with duct tape. He tells her that he will remove her gag and blindfold, and warns her to not make any sounds or look at him. She agrees. After she performs the electronic transfer, he renders her unconscious.
She wakes up on a boat with her wrists and ankles bound and her eyes covered with duct tape, but with her mouth free. She is left on a boat, and she whistles to sumon help.

A true blow to the community. Creating his own scenes as well as capping from so many varied sources, and all for FREE, I've been around a long time and have never seen anyone like him, or at least anyone last as long as he did which shows his true passion. Or I guess it's showed now.

Find something you love to do and do it for as long as you can. I've been "powered by Guinness" most of the day today and that seems about right.

That's exactly right. As I said, if it does turn out to
be something other than it appears now, *I* will deal
with it as far as this page is concerned.

> It's not unfair, and it isn't "censorship".

Of course not. I set the discussion boundaries. It's no
more censorship than me not allowing discussion of
commercial scenes or the 11ty dozen other things that
I've ruled off-topic in the past.
