The Mod will undoubtedly ask us to wrap this up soon, but in the meantime... while I totally agree that the "intent and vibe" of those sorts of shows are entirely out of favor right now, I can't agree that they're "never coming back." Sure they could. Popular culture is cyclical. When the pendulum swings too far toward heavy/stuff, it eventually swings back toward lighter, frothier fare. Then rinse and repeat. The fifties and sixties were full of hard-nosed and violent (for the time) police procedurals, and then they largely disappeared for a while, only to come back with a vengeance around a decade ago. Viewers will eventually get sick of CSI, etc., and want some fun, lighthearted action again. It just takes a long time for these shifts to happen, especially on network TV, because the executives are always terrified for their jobs and trying to replicate what's getting ratings right now. |

Katherine Heigl is handcuffed by one wrist to her shower rod while wrapped (temporarily) in a towel. When she's recues, she has wrapped herself in her shower curtain. |
