duct tape - good idea!
^ Julie Benz's response on Twitter to someone who suggested she sleep with her mouth closed (because there's a spider or something)

I thought it was worth sharing.

It definitely was worth sharing! Thanks! She's certainly has duct tape over her mouth before-she was gagged with it in the Lifetime Movie Held Hostage. She even wore the duct tape gag during a flashback scene!

Re: Maritza Rodriguez's Acorralada Scene.
The scene where her OTM gag turning to cleave gag is the end of the scene. There is no more after that scene.

Sceneless Saturdays
I really miss how there used to be non-network adventure shows on Saturdays. Sinbad, Lost World etc... Even more recently Legend of the Seeker.
They always had the possibility of good scenes.
Do they just not make them anymore?

(If Mr. Mod will indulge a brief sojurn...)

(1) I read an article recently that claimed the reason Fox Entertainment is dragging its heels on renewing "Fringe" is they want Bad Robot to reduce their price-per-episode.

(2) I also read an article a while back that claimed George Lucas has fifty hours of principle photography ready to go for his proposed "Star Wars" TV series, but the price of computer-generated effects is still too high to make an effects-heavy TV series viable.

The common thread: We're in a period where the production technology and industry business models are shaking themselves out. The business end ALWAYS lags a decade behind the technology. Could an "inexpensive" syndicated action/adventure/sc-fi/fantasy series still be made? Yes, but reruns of recent hits and "reality" programs are cheaper that original syndication, so the best of that particular subset of the industry are sliding into series production for the lower tier cable companies (TNT, USA, SyFy, etc.) The days of small independent studios producing a show like "Xena", "Relic Hunter", or "Lost World" on spec and shopping it to the networks/cable groups are more or less over. They still have the annual conventions and trade shows, but suits have stopped making deals. They want the independent producers to take ALL the risk and pay for everything before they'll pick up a new show

The latest (and probably the last) "series" of "Primeval" got made only because several UK-based companies managed to form a revenue-sharing coalition. That's the exception, and FAR from the norm.

New shows like "Alcatraz" and "The River" will continue to pop up in primetime, but on Saturday afternoon? Not likely.

This forum seems to be mostly about gags rather than bonds, but perhaps I may be indulged in talking about the latter. For the longest time, my least favorite way of seeing a young woman bound was in handcuffs. But I find I prefer even handcuffs to the now prevalent use of plastic zip-ties as they are called. I can't deny that such a method of restraint is fast and effective; I simply find it unappealing on a captive girl. Perhaps it's because they don't seem to struggle as much when bound in such a way. I do very much like scenes where there is thrashing about. In any case, I wondered whether others had feelings one way or another on this topic.

I hear you but I think some new things will soon pop up. The soaps and Lifetime movies seem to be all that's out there that's close right now. Special effects have come way down in price, ie, the new movie "Monsters" was all post cgi and very well done, so SyFy movies should come through except their story lines are mostly end of the world and silly monsters.

I think the dearth may be more about writing and content and intention. The vibe and intent of the old time Saturday afternoon serials, of The Avengers, of The Man from Uncle, of The Saint are gone and never coming back. Low budget horror and ultra violent TV shows are the rule of the day, and Saturdays are dead.

Whatever caused it, it seems to me that what's happened is that shows that used to go to first run syndication are now going to cable. Also, the time slots for these shows on local stations are going to reruns of cable shows and sometimes network shows as well. For example, my local Fox station is showing THE CLOSER (which had 2 scenes), a TNT series, in the same slot that would have gone to LEGEND OF THE SEEKER or SHE SPIES in years past.

I completely agree. T.v has simply evolved in the way it's pitched and produced, regardless of the time of day it's being made for. Maybe it's only us did scene obsessives that yearn for the classic saturday adventure type series?
