In one of those imperfect storm things, three cases relating to topicality have come up. So it's a good chance for me to go over my thoughts on the matter. While, as always, the final word is mine, I always want to hear what the forum users have to say. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have a forum without forum participants.

One of the chief determiners of being on-topic for Discussion have to do with "mainstream scenes". This is something that's been a concern from early on, but even more so these days with alterate methods of delivering content. When we started, scenes were mostly from TV, movies, or video rentals. There weren't webcasts and you tube series to contend with. I've also changed my thoughts on matters at times. For instance, I ruled out "real-life" material years back, then eased it up a bit to allow celebrity consensual examples.

At any rate, I'll go over the three cases and explain my thoughts.

1. A dance troupe that used bondage imagery in a performance. This I ruled out mostly on the "real-life" category. However, it is aguably scripted. This was the most borderline case, and maybe could have stayed. Yet somehow didn't feel right for Discussion. In that particular case, it didn't matter as it fell afoul of another rule anyway, as it had a video link. Video Page actually has a looser set of criteria for acceptability. That's largely to deal with questions of whether a 10-minute movie somebody made in their basement is mainstream or not. I don't even have to deal with than on Video. If it's reasonably close to script (not girls playing with rope) then it's ok for Video.

2. An oufit has produced a movie that they think is mainstream, that contains a lot of bondage. Their reasoning as to why it is has to do with it featuring some non-porn actresses and having been shown some film festivals. They haven't gotten back to me as to which ones. My feeling from looking over the promos and the site leads me to feel that it's just not mainstream. One reason that I've applied in the past has to do with the distribution model. If it's only being sold from the website, then I tend to think of it as not mainstream. I used this reasoning years ago with the case of the individual making a modern serial. My feeling tends to be that if it isn't going to be found at the usual outlets, or cable or whatever, it just doesn't fit in the "mainstream" mode that we've come to expect. If you search for the movie, almost all the hits come up on links from porn sites.

3. The final case is the "Unhappy End" series. This is much like the second. The producer thinks of it as mainstream. I viewed some clips and it looked to me to be bondage vingettes strung together with thin plotting. Again, it just didn't feel like mainstream.

As I say, I'm certainly willing to take input, especially from those more familiar with the type of materials I've mentioned.

All of that makes sense, but you should ease up some on the videos with consensual stuff.

The age thing is always an issue, but now even clips with people who are easily of adult age are blocked.

Tear down this wall, Mr. Gorbachev.

Indeed, and there was bondage in a lot of British comics at the time. One I especially remember is a series in a comic I think was Whizzer and Chips about a kid and his Raleigh Chopper bike (yay for product placement.) In one story there are horse rustlers that are taking horses from nearby farms. Our hero finds a girl in riding clothes bound and gagged. What was great was that the top of the next page had the caption "after warning Ann to stay quiet, he untied her gag"

(May be scene creep but I think he regags her later when the bad guys return.)

rather more sedate series about a horse farm in
Yorkshire! I don't believe these stories have ever been scanned.

Would some one be able to scan these ? Please :-)

Ahoi,
as Brian mentioned my series Unhappy End! I will answer.
I do not consider Unhappy End! mainstream, it´s like The 7 Nightmares Girl a very special kind of program. I wanted to create quality DID programs featuring the most beautiful actresses and models. I hired actresses who are in maintream tv and movies from all over the world and we shoot in Germany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Vancouver, Vienna and other places. We shoot now HDV. I re-edit and re-master my old SVHS shot programs replacing my old horrible mono music with new digital stereo scores. Most programs we did are in German, so I know most people in the US do not understand the stories. We are shooting now more in English. Brian claims he has only watched some trailers. How do you make up your mind watching just trailers? I offer Brian to get in touch with me via my email and I mail you some of the new English languages programs so you can see what we are really doing. You decided UE is not mainstream, that´s o.k. with me, it´s your site and your rules. Everyone else can go to the Gator sites.

There are copies of Look In for sale on Ebay. This seller: http://shop.ebay.com/rnrbooks1/m.html?_nkw=look+in+magazine&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3911.m270.l1313 seems to have the most reasonable prices, although not the largest selection. Probably you could email the seller and ask him to set aside ones with bondage.

Put it this way - we get excited because the trailer for an upcoming film shows an actress gagged, which means there'll be one scene (if we're lucky, maybe up to three). If the trailer is wall-to-wall bondage, then it's a different kind of product.

For my 2c, I felt the dance performance was mainstream, as it wasn't a set of strippers doing a bondage show, but the Unahppy End and 9 Muses are definitely not mainstream. They're professionally-made bondage videos. Which is fine, but not on a site dedicated to celebrating damsels in distress.

June 1: Closing time! (kinda) It's been a while since I checked in. Members have probably noticed that I'm behind on adding identifying information for clips, while guests have probably noticed the lack of free updates. To make a long story short, between basic burnout after 4,000+ clips, and other, more positive developments in my life, I've realized that I need to say a fond farewell to Raffish DiDclips. I'll be suspending my formal involvement with bondageparade.com at the end of June. Member updates will continue unabated up to that point.

Well - that's clear as mud ...?????

Greatest American Hero and the 90's Tarzan TV series both sucked. They seemed to prefer tying candyasses up

Rumor has it that it will be remade as an American film in 2012, with Carey Mulligan starring.

After you shut down for good, are you planning on uploading the clips to someplace like Mediafire or somewhere, maybe in a big zip file?

Of course if you're planning to do that that might not be fair to your paying customers, I just hate seeing good DiD clips go to waste...

I've swapped emails, and ideas with the folks who made 9 Muses, mostly because I've shot more than a dozen times with Tomiko, the star of the movie. Tomiko is an actress along with being a bondage model, but that's not the reason 9 Muses is something that would be debated as Mainstream or not.

9 Muses is not really mainstream, in that it is primarily a bondage movie. What it is, is the attempt by the company who made it to try and bring a bondage film into the mainstream. It meets some of the requirements of mainstream in that it is scripted, there is a plot (a pretty good one), and the website is intended to be a non-bondage website. That said, for more than 80 percent of the movie, someone on camera is tied up, and the camera lingers on the captives much like a bondage movie.

The production value is higher than the typical bondage video, and the themes and plot in the movie are much deeper than a typical bondage video, but it *is* a bondage movie. One day, someone will be able to make a movie that is bondage video in the mainstream. This was a noble attempt, but it really isn't mainstream enough.

Of course, if you look at the company's other productions, they are strictly light-on-plot bondage videos...

That's not going to happen. Whether there should have
been or not, there were constant problems. I don't feel
viewing every video to make sure people are using sense.
By requiring that it at least be more or less scripted,
the problems have largely been eliminated.

Happy Town returns tonight on ABC
HAPPY TOWN returns tonight at 10:00 PM eastern time on ABC. In the last episode, Amy Acker's character was found to be missing and possibly kidnapped. There is a possibility that we could get a bound and gagged scene with her at some point, maybe even tonight.

I really have never had much disagreement with how you've chosen to run the page.
IMHO stuff like Todd3D's Serials and things like C.C. Brite are mainstream enough.

Amy Acker's character was found safe, not bound and not gagged. However, there is still a possibility that we could get a scene. She does not remember what happened during her disappearance. The preview for next week's episode shows her trying to remember what happened to her and experiencing images. The images in the preview do not contain any bondage, but there is always the possibility that we could get a scene at some point.
