The grab scene wasn't all that original. Same game plan used by the bad guy in the "Midnight Caller" episode where Wendy Kilborne gets grabbed after the bad guy rear-ended her car on the street. Again, I have to credit the effort on all sides here. Nice camera work, nice mmpffing and struggling by Paige Turco and a nice closeup to end the scene. After all, they could have closed the door after they threw her in the trunk and not shown the close-up.

The promo for next week was the same shot to close the episode on Saturday and not anything new because she does the same wide eye shift in the trunk. My guess is the next episode starts with her tied up in the barn. 50-50 whether they gag her again but I'd bet against.

Remember back in the fall, "The Agency" opened its season with promos of Paige in the blue bikini and they close it with Paige bound and gagged. Interesting bookends to the season.

Re: The Agency
Don't know about CBS affiliates elsewhere, but in the S.F. Bay Area, channel 5 is running this episode again next Saturday (5/17), at 10 pm (according to TV Guide Online).

Raffish, I'm assuming you mean Ms. Michaud's top? Although I love Cyriele Claire in any outfit. Notice how Sophie's white shirt stays perfectly tucked in throughout the bondage scenes and struggles on the floor despite constant moving and stretching. It's got to be one of those body suits that snap in down below. Great thinking on Sophie's part to come prepared.

I agree 1,000 percent. I've only saved a handful of scenes without gags over the years and this is my favorite. What might have been. Because they were tied so close together, they could have started gagged and ungagged themselves. Too bad.

While I'm not actually familiar with either actress, you're probably right -- though this would mean the DB has them reversed as well. ("Gaby [Michaud] conviently [sic] has a knife in her leather jacket and Nikki [Claire] gets it out on the floor. Gaby then grabs it with her mouth.") Should I change the entry?

I'm hopeing for less originality next week. Lets see bound goverment agent turns the tables on her hot asian captress. (after Paige gets her fair share of screen time of course!) It's a long shot I know but I would love to finaly be able to scratch Tamlyn Tomita off my most wanted list! I love table turning scenaris too.

Heeere's Paige!
What do you want to bet that this is all the gag time we get? Still, at least it caps well...and c'mon, it's Paige Turco.

I don't think that'd be necessary. Sophie Michaud was Gabby; and Cyrielle Claire was Nikki.

Land of the Living (by Nicci French)
Local newspaper review of "Land of the Living" by Nicci French (the pseudonym of married British journalists Nicci Gerard and Sean French) (Warner Books, $23.95), which utilizes amnesia.

"She is bound, gagged and hooded. She knows she has been kidnapped, and she knows her captor has killed before, but she has no idea who he is. Yet miraculously, Abbie Devereaux escapes.

Nightmare over. But another now begins. Nobody believes her. She has amnesia about the time leading up to her captivity. Do the police believe her story? They seem doubtful. A psychiatrist, a neurologist and a medical team work with her--but the psychiatrist convinces the team that the nightmare never happened, that excitable Abbie had previous mental medical crises.

But Devereaux knows it did happen, knows her captor stil stalks her. What memories she does have--where she lives, whether she has a job, where she stands with her boyfriend--are oddly out of synch with reality. As the authorities question her credibility, Abbie knows she must retrace her steps from the time she was abducted back to the place where the horror began.
She is the latest heroine in a series of stories of bright, ordinary women caught up in circumstances beyond their control, who must by sheer will solve problems of sexual obsession and cliff-hanging suspense.

Nicci French again achieves a magic blend of taut terror and elegant turn of phrase."

Hmm, I wonder if the Lifetime channel will consider "Land of the Living" for a future movie project.

alert question
I just saw the following on the alerts page.

As The World Turns
Day: Tuesday May 13 2003
Time: 2:00 PM Eastern
Channel: ABC
A cute blonde is tied up and cleave gagged inside a trunk. The scene has just started and I assume will continue throughout the rest of the episode.
KSWolf

Is this legit (ATWT is not an ABC soap, plus it's hard to believe someone is getting soaps more than one day early) or is this an old alert mistakenly posted to the wrong date?

Looks like a mispost from last year, regarding this
scene:

Record number: 7287

Title: As The World Turns
Medium: Soap Opera
Actress: Kelley Hensley

Description: May 13-14, 2002
Emily (Kelley Hensley) who has been missing for awhile, is finally seen in a large traveling trunk with her hands bound behind her and cleave gagged with a thin, white cloth. She is pulled over to a couch where she fakes an attack with one captor to fool the second captor, and is then released.

Raffish is correct here. I mixed up the names in part of the description. Nikki had the knife in her jacket, not Gaby. I'll fix it on DB.

The Return of Nancy Drew
Simon and Schuster is apparently planning to launch a new Nancy Drew book series in 2004. You can view the first five covers at the link below:

Nicci French also was (I guess in this case, I mean WERE) the author(s) of Killing Me Softly, infamously adapted into that flick that begat a scene, albeit a minor one, with Heather Graham.

lady to lady
has anyone else notice the increase in women gagging on screen other women. Just a short while ago it would have been un-heard of. Just recently there have been three. Sean Young, The one life to live woman, and very briefly the Paige Turco scene where the asian woman tied and gagged her. Albeit all three scenes involved the fake duct tape, yet, is a good run of cleaving be far behind

Re: The Agency
The ep next week promises to be a major DiD scenario, as one of the characters says Turco's "wrapped in explosives" and we see some sort of electronic triggering device being secured to Turco's neck while she's tied to the chair.

Dunno about the extent of gaggage (but a blindfold or a hood is a definite possibility if they show any transport scenes) but I have high hopes for this scene.

Considering the fact our heroine was stuffed into a car trunk, a hood or blindfold would be redundant.

soaps are the only hope
Lately, it seems duct tape use for gags is at an all time high. It's not that gray duct tape is a complete turnoff, it's just not a turn on, (I do like white medical tape) and duct is so over used (John Willie is spinning in his grave). I don't even want to speculate why it is so prevelant; I do know if they used it right, many actresses would complain, but unfortunately it seems everyone backs it with tissue, or paper towels, hence the always loose edges. I would start a campaign against it if I thought it would do an ounce of good, which I know it wont.

In mho, soaps are the only hope for respite; it seems they occasionaly sense the esthetic appeal of white cloth.

I'm making a t-shirt that says "Duct Sucks" and I don't care if most people don't know what it means; I know many here do. And I humbly apologize to duct tape lovers for raining on your parade; it's just that your parade never ends.

That comment reminded me of another comment I saw somewhere on the "Duct Tape Guys" website. In their comment about the use of duct tape in the movies, they say:

"Gagging and tying up: probably the most common use for duct tape in movies! Let's all work to get this changed."

from http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/atmovies/ if you don't believe me.

Anyway, at that site, they do mention many uses of duct tape at the movies, as well as whether they think it's a good use, or a bad one. If the duct tape is used to tie someone up, they consider it a bad use. I guess bad as in "uncreative".
