Tuesday December 22 00:42:24 2009 CSI: Miami |
Nice red knotted cleave gag scene at the end of tonight's episode of CSI: Miami. Really bad continuity glitch, as the damsel starts out with her hands tied in front of her, then somehow behind her, and then in front of her again, as H helps her out of a tub of ice. Only then does she remove her own gag. Amazing. But pretty girl...nice gag. |

One of the old original ones was "Street of Dreams" by Rainbow. That had the parody of the Walter Mitty scene. You can find that video on the you tube thing. Grainy screenshot below. |

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Anahi the blonde lead of RBD and Rebelde fame has a current music video with many shots of her in a straitjacket. In all shots including the straitjacket ones she is wearing black underwear. The video is "Mi Delirio"and I saw it on Mun2. |

Tuesday December 22 08:22:52 2009 Most unnecessary gag in a scene? |
First off, I think we can all agree that among our community, there's no such thing as an unnecessary gag scene :) But just for fun, let's think of scenes where the gag really served no real purpose. -Raiders of the Lost Ark (Karen Allen). She was tied up in a tent in the center of the Nazi encampment. The desert was "3 weeks in every direction." It hardly seemed necessary to have her gagged. Who was she going to scream to? There was no one around to help her. The only reasons I can think of for the gag would be A) Perhaps the Nazi leaders didn't want the foot soldiers outside to know they were keeping a captive female inside. B) The knew how crafty she could be, and didn't want to risk her flirting her way free (which almost wound up working anyway). |

They just wanted to shut her the hell up! |

There was a scene on "Sky King" where Penny was bound and gagged in the back of a car, in the middle of the desert. Seemed kind of mean, as well as pointless, but I liked it anyway. |

The Nazi group was supposedly a legitimate German academic expedition to Egypt at a time when the British ran that country. The people digging to the well of souls were local Egyptian day laborers. Had the laborers found out that the Germans were keeping an American captive then the British authorities might have become involved, or word gotten back to Jones. |

Are you sure her wrists weren't bound in front of her in that scene? Which is still pointless, sure, and she was unconscious. But I think her wrists were bound, and that's only scene I know of with her, the one that's on (or at least near) a beach. There certainly have been a ton of scenes with unnecessary gags, and I try to appreciate them all whenever a scene that clearly SHOULD have had a gag does not. Thankfully, I believe it balances out to our benefit. |

Is this duct-tape-over-gauze actually effective, or just looks like it? Would it properly prevent an actress from talking? Also, I'm curious about a very rare instance of a gag, the tape-over-cleave-gag. The only time I saw this on mainstream TV was on "Witchblade" (ep. "Nailed"). I've also seen ball-gags secured with multiple strips of duct tape. Which are the pros and cons of both of these gags? |

I think she was bound as well as gagged; the thug who incapacitated her left her bound and gagged on a beach, if my recollections serves me correctly. |

Tuesday December 22 19:30:47 2009 The Unit alert |
While watching on of the WWE shows (Smackdown I think) I saw a preview for 2 back-to-back episodes of The Unit tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 23) on whatever local channel you get Smackdown in your area (it's always on some local independent channel). The episodes start at 7 pm Central time & in one of them there is a damsel blindfolded with duct tape & tape gagged. No idea which episode it's in. |

Any scene involving protesters with tape over their mouths as some kind of symbolic gesture. It's like they think no one will take their protests seriously, but if they put tape over their mouths, then people will really know they mean business. At one time, the gag was meant to convey the denial of free speech but nowadays you can't have a protest for anything without a roll of duct tape handy. |

Tuesday December 22 23:05:46 2009 Re: Most unnecessary gag in a scene? |
The "Journey to the End of the Knight" episode of the new Knight Rider series had a really gratuitous gag scene for the beautiful Deanna Russo. For some reason the bad guys felt the need to bind and gag her even though they were in the middle of the desert AND she was unconscious to boot. By contrast, the more dangerous Michael Knight merely had one wrist cuffed to KITT! |

In Wrong Turn, the mutated hillbillies kidnap Eliza Dushku, lash her to a bed, and gag her with some leather strap thingy...but their house is in the middle of the freaking WOODS, and there's no one around for miles who could potentially hear herscreams and cries for help (which are clearly intelligable even through the gag). Not that I'm *complaining*, of course, but it was totally gratuitous and unnecesary to attempt muffling her speech. |
