| Sunday July 03 01:07:40 2011 The Brothers Bloom: A faux-scene of sorts and other interesting tidbits |
| Just got around to watching The Brothers Bloom the other day, a quirky little movie about con artist brothers from 2008. There are no actual scenes in the film--no damsel is restrained in any way--but gag snobs (like me) might appreciate a few brief scenes. The main one is that cute Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi (aka Yuriko Kikuchi) wears a black scarf over her nose and mouth for a few seconds in a scene on a train. It's intended as a mask (because she and the character played by Rachel Weisz are stealing snacks), but it's kind of cute in the old-school nose-covering OTM sense. Also, Weisz has two scenes in which she's biting down on things: In one, she grips a rose between her teeth while she's dancing. In another, she's trying to steal a book that's in a plastic bag, and the bag is gripped in her teeth. She even briefly tries to fight a couple of security guards while doing this, giving us a couple of grunts. Finally, just as a cute aside for completists only: Kikuchi's character likes to destroy Barbie dolls (or Barbie-like dolls). In one scene, she has a plastic Barbie doll tied to a tree, and she blows it away with a handgun. The cute part (for us) is that she also took the time to tie the doll's hands in front of it with rope. It's just a little funny thing that only DiD-lovers would notice. It's all pretty minor stuff, but I did like the little moments throughout. It's too bad neither of the ladies got themselves into any real peril. But these bits added a little enjoyment to the film for me. |
