| On the subject of pantomime, it's that time of year when Christmas theatre shows are in rehearsal the length and breadth of the UK, the Commonwealth and the Irish Republic. Some of these, being based on folk and fairy tales, contrive to place the fair heroine, or even the hero, traditionally played by an equally comely young lady in a very leg-revealing costume, in mild bondage. I haven't seen the script for our local Aladdin yet, but last time we did it we had our heroine chained up in the evil magician's lair. No gag, of course - corny dialogue is all-important. So, if any reader learns of a coming panto that might fall into our category of interest, please let us know. |
