Sunday October 05 00:04:43 2008 The Strange Mystery of the Mass Gagging Anomaly |
In doing research for my article on "What Should A Slave Girl Look Like In A Sword and Sandal Film?" I discovered that there are no scenes in any sword and sandal flick in which persons identifiable as slave girls are gagged en masse. However, I have found three such scenes in futuristic science fiction flicks: one in Alien Apocalypse, one in the "Flying Lessons" episode of Cleopatra 2525, and one in the movies "Sleeping Dogs" and "Fatal Conflict." (Clips from the same scene are used in both movies so I only count them as once scene.) My question is, does anybody know of any other scenes involved mass gagging of slavegirls, especially in sword and sandal flicks? (I know there are mass gagging scenes of captive women, but the ones I know of don't involve women identifiable as slavegirls.) It's kinda strange that the only such scenes are in futuristic SF stories. I've got a more fully explained post about it on my blog (see homepage link). Direct from nbc.com/knightrider: Saturday, Oct. 4th 8/7c - "Journey to the End of Knight" REPEAT Mike infiltrates a racing gang with the help of an old army buddy; Sarah and KITT join him. That is the correct episode title. On the west coast "A Knight in Shining Armor" episode 1.1 aired at 8pm. "Journey to the End of Knight" episode 1.2 aired at 9pm. That kr website is a mess btw. Would recommend zap2it.com to set your recordings by. |

Actually, I prefer to go even farther: "If she ain't gagged... who cares?" |

Hey, begging the Moderator's kind indulgence, I just wanted to announce that I'm back in business, with my own blog spot discussing various topics, but mostly the one at hand, namely DiD's in popular entertainment. Feel free to stop by once in a while when you get a chance. |

Sunday October 05 12:04:03 2008 This and that and nothing in particular... |
...or as lawyer Diana Hyland gushed to newspaper publisher Van Williams over dinner at the end of the "Green Hornet" episode "Give 'Em Enough Rope" (you know, the one in which Williams as the Hornet had earlier opined "You look uncomfortable, Claudia" upon finding her gagged and chair-tied): "There I was-tied up, helpless, about to become another victim of Colony and his gang-when out of the darkness came the Green Hornet! I hope he never gets caught, but if he does I shall defend him for nothing!" Gee, that simple black mask must have covered a multitude of sins, didn't it? Anyway, that's not what I came here to talk about, but while I'm here I might as well mention that the big-screen "Green Hornet" movie has apparently been something of a back-burner project as Hollywood productions go, but according to the IMDb it now does have a release date-June 25, 2010. Mark your calendars, everyone. What I did come here to talk about was puppets-as in the ones made famous by British husband-and-wife marionetteers Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. Okay, I know-some of you will tune out now, but that's all right; to each his own. At least the rest of us can be grateful that our generous host and intrepid database editors have considered scenes involving them worthy of inclusion. Which is why I'm here to tell you it looks like there's at least one Anderson-produced "Supermarionation" show with a scene that seems to have slipped through the cracks-my personal favorite, "Fireball XL5." I was scrounging around the web looking for something else-isn't that how these things always happen-when I chanced across a clip of the show's opening and closing sequences. Come on, baby boomers, how many of you remember-the dramatic, swelling music as Steve and Venus approached the rocketship's cockpit on those flying scooters, followed by the cataclysmic flame and smoke from the igniting engines as the ship gained speed and roared down the horizontal track, then leapt spaceward as Steve steadied her with that cool bicycle-handlebar-shaped yoke... All right, maybe it wasn't your cup of tea, but everyone here-or at least everyone reading this while sitting on the left side of the pond-may owe a debt of gratitude not only to the Andersons but to NBC for bringing the show over here after it completed its initial run over there, because the IMDb credits it as the first British show picked up by an American television network, as opposed to being syndicated. Would Dame Diana be in the Hall of Fame-or for that matter even be a Dame-had ABC not had the courage to follow suit a few years later? And I'll admit it-I was nuts about this show back in the day. That hour of Saturday morning was what I lived for the rest of the week. I can still remember the disappointment of its not airing on November 23, 1963; I think that was when the full impact of what had occurred in Dallas the previous afternoon finally hit me. (When your age is still in single digits, your priorities are a bit different.) Oh, that's right-the scene. The site where I found the clip also has part of the first episode, "Planet 46." I didn't watch all of it, but it looks like Venus spends a bit of rope-and-tape-gag time towards the end. The show is-or at least-was-out on video, so I'm sure some other aficionado whose budget allows probably has it in his or her collection and can do a better job of writing a database entry than I can, and can also let us know if there's anything else of interest in the other 38 episodes. Mrs. Anderson, I'm sure, would be grateful. And speaking of Venus-or, more generally, female characters in shows such as this-does anyone else think it can be argued that the Brits were in some ways a bit more accepting of them than we enlightened Americans were? We, of course, had them in our Westerns-the database is rife with scenes from "The Lone Ranger" and the Gene Autry and Roy Rogers small-screen horse operas, and "Sky King"s" Gloria Winters was a charter member of the Hall of Fame for her work in a show clearly derived from the Western tradition. However, I recently scored an episode from another long-lost favorite at the Internet Archive-"Captain Midnight" (although I'll have to tell on myself and admit that I didn't get in on this show until it was syndicated as "Jet Jackson") and was struck by its all-maie cast, a change from the comic book and both the radio and movie serials it was based on. I get the impression that when it came to action shows aimed at a Saturday-matinee audience, U. S. producers were reluctant to cast actresses as regulars in anything other than Westerns, perhaps for a similar reason that author J. K. Rowling was encouraged to use her initials instead of her first name. Well, am I on to something, or am I all wet? |

I know it's been on Major JOhns for a while, but I'm just wondering who this actress is. For Some reason, that thick cleave gag combined with a cute face makes this scene quite appealing to me. |
Sunday October 05 13:27:13 2008 Late Alert for Dagon |
"Dagon" started up on the SciFi Channel at 1 p.m. EST. Near the end there's some nice nude bondage for redheaded star Raquel Morino -- she's first chained naked and spreadeagled to an altar, then her wrists are chained to a bar and she's hoisted into the air over the pit where Dagon lives, with weights chained to her ankles as well. No gag. I believe the SciFi Channel handled the nudity issue by digitally blurring her breasts and butt where necessary. |

Fettershackle wrote: > And speaking of Venus-or, more generally, female > characters in shows such as this-does anyone else think > it can be argued that the Brits were in some ways a bit > more accepting of them than we enlightened Americans > were? The question you're asking requires quite a bit knowledge than I have. You have to have a feel for how accepting the Brits were of female characters in the 50s and 60s and how accepting the Americans were of female characters in the 50s and 60s. I have no idea for how accepting the Brits were. I think most American producers at the time would think along the lines of, "Pre-adolescent boys, our target audience, aren't at all interested in girls as a general rule. Therefore, no girls unless there's a specific reason to have one, such as needing someone to get captured and tied up a lot so she can be rescued." > I get the impression that when it came to action shows > aimed at a Saturday-matinee audience, U. Rowling was encouraged to use her initials instead of her first name. Well, am I on to something, or am I all wet? Well, based on my researches for sword and sandal movies, most of the ones from the 50s have a surprising amount of sexual content. I'm not surprised that FrankNFurther in "Rocky Horror Picture show" was a fan of "Steve Reeves" movies. Kinda makes me wonder about the guys who made those movies, now that I've given a few of them a thorough exam. |

Sunday October 05 21:48:33 2008 Site Update |
This week my site updates with a piece on "Electric Blue #44," a video magazine piece that debuted over 20 years ago, and in my humble opinion, set a visual standard for slavegirl hotness that hasn't been matched in any mainstream TV show or film since. I also cover Yvonne de Carlo in "Slave Girl" (great name!), Jenny Agutter in Logan's Run, various hapless slave girls in "Cave Dwellers" and Katherine Frickin' Heigl in an FHM photoshoot. The Electric Blue images are too nekkid for Brian's Page, so I'll post a pic of Yvonne cranking up the hottitude instead. Is that a "come hither" look or what? Very rare, over sexiness in the 50s. |

You are correct, Terry Farrell was in Hellraiser 3 as Joey. But the actress in the picture is NOT Terry Farrell or from Hellraiser 3. |
