RIP William Smith
Long time Hollywood bad guy William Smith passed away at the age of 88. https://www.legacy.com/news/celebrity-deaths/william-smith-1933-2021-actor-known-for-laredo-rich-man-poor-man/

He was fortunate enough to participate in the greatest DID scene of all time.

I love that trope, too. I think the Lynda Carter scenes in Wonder Woman are great. I also liked the Jennifer O'dell aircraft scene in the Lost World.

He was capable of being a tough "good guy" as on Streets of Laredo and Hawaii 5-0 (the original) but no question played a ton of bad guys. He and Richard Lynch seemed to play about half of the villainous roles for a time in the '70's and '80's.

Looking for a scene
This may be a long shot since I can't remember many details. I think it was one of those late nineties type Skinemax movies. I think the lead actress was either a cop or private detective. She was a larger woman, more like an Amazon type. I remember her getting caught and tied to a chair. I'm pretty sure she was tape gagged and had a sister tied up next to her.

For me, William Smith will always call up the image of the dangerous villain "Falconetti" in the "Rich Man, Poor Man" (1976) TV-miniseries adaptation.

William Smith was also the villain in The Yellow Rose ("Far Side of Fear") episode:

Record number: 752

Title: The Yellow Rose
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Robin Wright, Cybill Shepherd

Description: Episode: "Far Side of Fear" (1.22)

At the 4:00 mark (without commercials), Barbara Sue Anderson (Wright) is handgagged by the villainous Jed Fargo (William Smith) and dragged into the underbrush. She comes to an uphappy end.

At the 34:45 mark, Colleen Champion (Shepherd) is abducted by Fargo who wants to even the score with her boyfriend, Chance McKenzie (played by Sam Elliott). Fargo ties her to a post (wrists in front) in an old barn. When she complains, he cleave-gags her ("There, that'll keep you quiet") with a thick olive-green bandanna. Later, Chance rides to the rescue and fights it out with bad guy while Colleen struggles in the background. The scene ends at the 40:30 mark when Chance pulls off the gag and cuts the ropes binding Colleen's wrists.

By the end, Colleen's gag has gone from cleave to over-the-mouth. Lots of nice close-ups and a bit of mmmphing, plus the gag remains hanging around her neck after being rescued.

Don't forget he had Erin Grey bound and gagged in The Fall Guy.

Der Pass/ Pagan Peak
The stills from the IMDB page for this German television series show a closeup of a woman sporting a pretty broad tape gag.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6905756/

The series has just recently been released on several U.S. streaming services if anybody's interested.

The unfortunate part of the Pamela Gidley scene is that the bad guy orders her to tie up Jennifer O'Neill, starts with the hands and ends with the feet but doesn't show her gagging Jennifer

One of those short but sweet scenes from the 1980s. Love Erin's reaction when she realizes she's been double crossed, with the 2nd henchman saying "take her." And that nice profile shot, with the perfect head turn toward the camera.

Thanks for the tip - checked this one out quickly, the scene occurs in the third episode with a quick flashback to it in the following episode.

Not worth it sadly - that still is all you get. She's in the back of a car and given an injection to the neck before it cuts away. Nothing else is shown - no capture, nothing after, maybe 5 seconds. Disappointing!

William Smith was also one of the heroes in the western/comedy/adventure series Wildside (1985). Another of the series' regulars was a then-24 year old Meg Ryan, who got a handgag in episode six.

Early in tonight's (Tuesday's) episode, Deborah gets tape-gagged on screen by the telenovela's villainess. Brief scene as the good guys arrive, there is a short standoff at gunpoint before the villainess flees and Deborah is released.
