Saturday July 09 02:30:53 2016 Guilt & Thoroughly Modern Millie (Stage) |
This past week's episode of Guilt on the Freeform network (formerly ABC Family) featured a decent handgag of Naomi Ryan (or probably Naomi Ryan - I was at a bar and just happened to see it, but wasn't watching carefully). Looked like a decent handgag, but nothing followed that I can remember. Don't know if this has been discussed in the past, but I saw a local stage production of Thoroughly Modern Millie tonight which featured a blink-and-you-miss-it bound & gagged scene for the Miss Dorothy character, who has been kidnapped by a "white slavery" ring. I don't know if every production features this scene, but it was nice that this one did. |

The first is that the two Adams kids are a bit young. This is a plot point that comes up a number of times in the book and would be hard to write around. Due to rules governing young actors it would be hard to film. Second is content. Barbara is naked through most of the movie which is a problem. Yes you can rewrite that and fade to grey when she is assaulted but it's going to be hard to pull off a movie were most of the primary actress's scenes are imagined conversations. Finally there is that bad ending which has caused people to burn their copies of the book and which doesn't inspire people to necessarily want to see it in a movie. |

The most recent Kate Burkholder book, Among The Wicked, appears to have a scene for the title character (portrayed by Neve Campbell in the 2013 movie, An Amish Murder). Google Books has a preview and one moment describes Kate's hands being bound with duct tape when she's caught. Nothing about a gag or anything but I guess we'll see when the book hits stores on Tuesday. Would be nice if there's a full scene for her and am still hope Neve gets a better scene one day. |

A rare B&g scene with chains, and the long shots make it clear that it was Neve in those shots rather than a stunt double. My letdown was that although Kate Burkholder had been fired as chief of police, because the story is set in winter she wasn't wearing a slinky sort of "revenge" outfit from the back of her closet for the climax. |

And another scene near the end again with the lead character. Putz alert here also. First scene is Christy Coco. 2nd one is Elizabeth Mitchell. Also a 3rd minor scene with several people B&G waiting to be purged. |

However, it wouldst time a book was made into a movie but the movie was not 100% faithful to the book. The kids could have been made slightly older (but then, some of the protagonist kids in "The Girl Next Door" were sure not very old) and gotten the same point across, the nudity could have been toned down (many, MANY extended/repeated rape scenes don't involve total nudity...she could have been stripped down to her undies, etc.), and as for the downbeat ending, yeah, but again, many movies end with the death of the main character hero/heroine (again, see "The Girl Next Door"). So really, I could totally see this book being made in to a movie. However, it may be just that the subject matter in general wouldn't be that interesting to the average moviegoer (who is not a bondage enthusiast)to make it a worthwhile project to spend money on. |

Is the main black chick bound and gagged at all? |
Saturday July 09 18:39:45 2016 Re: Kate Burkholder in Among the Wicked |
I'm surprised Burkholder hasn't been in more peril in the series, though she does briefly get her hands tied behind her back in another one of the books. Can't remember the title. Still have hope one day Neve will get a better scene. Been wondering if she could possibly get something on House Of Cards after the surprise scene earlier this season. |

I don't think the "Adams" book->movie is a productive area of discussion. |
