Sunday December 30 03:29:27 2001 Re: Fan-sites & Unknowns |
David: Here's another bugger of a series. Record number: 138 Title: That Girl Medium: TV Series Actress: Marlo Thomas Description: Episode: Don't Just Do Something, Stand There Tape gagged and heavily tied with rope. Bound arms to her sides, ankles together. She is rescued by her boyfriend to be, but it's all part of a commercial she's doing. Marlo is wearing a mini-skirt and pumps. Nice scenes of her being carried bound, and of her hopping around while bound. When her boyfriend rescues her, he only removes the gag, feels bad about ruining the commercial, and leaves without untying Marlo. Okay, Some of the fan-sites have this one listed as the first episode, Others claim there was one that aired previous. Which leads to this: Record number: 139 Title: That Girl Medium: TV Series Actress: Marlo Thomas Description: Episode unknown In another DiD commercial shoot, she is tied to railroad tracks. I haven't much luck at finding this second commercial shoot episode. Someone on Discussion posted about this episode (#139), being censored due to the DID scenes. (Or something? Can look it up) On a fan-site, there was a claim the real first episode was dropped to change Marlo's character from (rough quote) "appearing 'Jewish' to appearing more 'Mid-Western'" (Whatever? & Whatever the heck that means?) So, Figure this dropped 1st ep had the RRtracks commercial? Or, Figure just haven't come across the actual ep yet? Thanx |

Sunday December 30 04:03:43 2001 Re: Entry # 139, Marlo Thomas RRTracks Scene |
Re: That Girl (# 139) From Discussion: "The episode under discussion was originally 1 hour long, and then shown in 2 parts in syndication. Marlo's character was shown filming a series of commercials for a product (a drink?)--all of which had a DiD theme. The entire campaign was cancelled due to a backlash against violence in mainstream media (how ironic)." Just to add: I haven't been able to find any information on dropped eps. I recall this show airing up here, But don't remember any mention of 'dropped episodes' here at the time. This ringing any bells with you? |

The first entry (#138) came from the series initial episode, "Don't Just Do Something, Stand There." IIRC, the second scene (#139) was the last of a series of commercials that Ann Marie was featured in, which makes episode "7 1/4 (Part 2)" (3.7) a likely suspect. That's only an educated guess, however. It may be scene creep, but I remember the action occuring right at the end of the episode with the last shot of Don Hollinger, Ann's boyfriend, carrying her away from the tracks. I recollect her wearing an old-time white dress and still had thick ropes wrapped around her. |

Should have read further down the page first, because it's all coming back to me now. I don't think all the commericials had bondage themes, but all involved dangerous stunts; the last one involving damsels and railroad tracks was dangerous, if I remember correctly, because it involved a real steam engine. I'm going to edit this episode to read "7 1/4 (Part 2)" (?) and maybe someone can confirm it at a later date. |

I just figured you'd do a search on the show title, then go through and pick up the ones needing episodes. Of course, you could do and AND search. > As for the quotes around episode titles, I thought we had > decided to put quotes around the episode titles because > that's the IMDb format and more than half of the ones > already in the database had quotes around them already. Fine by me. We just need a consistent policy. Once we get everyone on the same page, it will reduce work all around. Everybody has their own opinion on how things should look (witness some of my blanket decisions during the fixup). But editors working against each other is counterproductive. There aren't that many editors that are very active, so it shouldn't be too hard to come to an agreement. |

When I was doing the fixup, if I saw a title change for a series, I pretty much did a global fix. So if you put it in once, then all would get changed. Titles are the most searched for item, so consistency and accuracy there is vital. |

The episode titles are very useful, of course. I guess I'd prefer some context left in. Obviously, if the contributor goes on and on about things not related to the scene, then trimming is definitely in order. But some text help set the scene or to remind the reader of which one it is (me especially) is helpful. |

Thanx I have a book called Television Detective Shows of the 1970s and it doesn't even list an episode with this title (it seems to skip over that week), HOWEVER, I have seen the episode and the action described is accurate. I believe that the book is missing the episode and that we should credit the DiD as Le Bouvier. It should be episode #2.23, though. I'll make the changes. |

I'm not at all upset or anything. As I mentioned earlier, the good thing about the DB crash is that it forces me to do something I should be doing all the time, and that's monitor what changes the editors have been making, and identify problem areas. My goal is to have my free labor operating with as little trouble and duplicate effort as possible. If you guys went away, then I'd have to take up all that effort again. With the DB grown to over 6000 entries (this has got to be the most thorough compendium on the subject ever) the task would overwhelm me. Frankly, you guys could tell me to take every comment and edict, and shove 'em, and there wouldn't be anything I could do. I need you worse than you need me. |

From Discussion Page: > Also, > Did the episode appear to take place in St Louis? > Los Angeles? "I pretty sure the episode described in the second scene (#139) was "7 1/4 (Part 2)". I recall the advertising campaign commercials being shot in Los Angeles and requiring Ann Marie to perform all kinds of dangerous stunts because of the low budget, including being tied to the railroad tracks with a real train (i.e., a regularly scheduled one) about to run over her while she was tied to the tracks." David: Fansites had 'dare-devil' stunts, and filmed or taking place in Los Angeles for ep: 7 1/4, prts 1 & 2. Looks like we finally got this bugger! Fantastic! :) |

Sunday December 30 19:40:07 2001 Several additions |
My apologies: I watched and vidcapped "The Gunrunner" a few months ago, but did not share the information (the story was a definite match). Problem at my end: I could not confirm the actresses name, because the TV station completely cut away the closing credits - they often do that here.
However, now I feel even more compelled to help. From the "unknown" episodes: --- Record number: 51 Title: Deadly Games Medium: TV Series Actress: Cynthia Gibb Description: Episode unknown. Series regular Lauren Ashborne (Gibb) is tied down to railroad tracks, wrists tied in front of her, ankles together. -- That is Episode 8 (or 1.8 if you prefer, there was only one season): The Car Mechanic. Note: A putz (DB-speak: guy :-) receives the same treatment and is tied alongside her. -- Record number: 1497 Title: Dynasty Medium: TV Series Actress: Linda Evans Description: Episode unknown Krystal (Evans) is locked in the attic. At first her wrists are bound behind her back, and she is blindfolded but ungagged. She's wearing a blue robe Later, she is tape gagged, and then gagged with a thin black cloth. -- The first, the blindfold scene, is in "The Titans", the gag scene (I only remember the cloth gag) is either in the same or possibly in one of the following two or three episodes - sorry I can't be more precise. --- Records No. 5488 Title: Eurocops Medium: TV Series Actress: Unknown Description: Episode unknown Late 80s German police series had a scene where an unknown actress was placed in bondage. Record number: 5612 Title: Eurocops Medium: TV Series Actress: unknown Description: Episode unknown In this long-running Eurovision series, there was an episode from Italy in which a damsel is tied to a bed (wrists tied to the headboard) and cleave-gagged with a scarf. She wears a nightie. --- The latter is correct: Several European stations contributed episodes to this series. Since both entries probably refer to the same episode, I suggest deleting the first entry. Happy new new year everyone - we here have less than 23 hours left in 2001. |
