Record number: 2004 Title: Houdini (1953) Medium: Movie Actress: Janet Leigh Description: Around the 51' mark, Houdini and his wife are doing a locked in trunk/change places trick. A sailor handcuffs his wife's hands in front of her. They proceed to place her in a sack and lock her in the trunk. She is wearing a typical magician's assistant outfit. About 10 minutes later, Houdini is late from an escape attempt from a London jail. His wife (Leigh) goes on stage in a mask trying to stall for time, but a gentleman handcuffs her hands behind her. These handcuffs are more like metal shackles. He demands to try to escape this since they can only be cut to get them off. Hiding in a magicians box, she changes places with the only just arrived Houdini. She comes out just behind with her hands still cuffed behind her in her assistant's outfit. Very short scenes. |

Five minutes into the ep, Jane is on-set standing with her wrists manacled above her head while the hockey masked driller killer threatens her. Financial problems shut down production on the spot, and Jane pulls her hands out of the restraints. A few minutes later, they get some more money to continue the production, and Jane is back in her predicament. A different camera angle shows that she is standing spreadeagled in her shackles. Jane was pregnant while this was being filmed, so the baby bump is concealed behind a large metal belt which conceals her midsection. |
