She really sells being tied up despite resisting. She has the great line where she declares the situation "UN. FAIR." She kind of musters all of her outrage into those two syllables. Later, she's got a great grunt when the gag is removed (maybe it actually did pull her hair?) and then she stomps her feet in frustration as he drags her over to answer the phone. Give this lady another Oscar. In terms of camera angles, at least part of the scene has Robert Redford's shoulder between the camera and the damsel, blocking part of the shot--which adds to the sense of helplessness. |

Wednesday August 17 07:03:41 2022 'Rare' B & W scenes |
Does anybody know of any rarer old B & W scenes that can be found online, perhaps not mentioned in the DB? Also, when searching in the DB, under 'B & W', it throws up a ton of scenes that don't fit, so I wonder, are there any good keywords that can be used to narrow it down? I've tried things like '1940s' '1941' and so on. I think it would be great to find more of these scenes. They are very thrilling to me, with the big OTMS etc. Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

Susan St. James in McMillan and Wife, (movement, gag talk, reasonable length. Elisabeth Ashley in Mission Impossible great movement, on screen gagging. |

You could try using "serials" to bring up a lot of the "to be continued" stuff from the 1940's and '50's serial adventures. How many if any are online I don't know. But just a general google search of the word would probably get you a lot of information - books, stills, etc. |

I have seen all the serials (I think) but there must surely be a fair number of movies from the late 30s/ 40s that still elude. Here's hoping for some suggestions from others on here. |

It can be watched online. |

'In her biography "Looking for Gatsby", Faye Dunaway says of this film: "Now I'm sorry but the idea of being kidnapped and ravaged by Robert Redford was anything but frightening. [At one point, after Redford temporarily left the set and director Pollack took over his role for Dunaway's reaction shots] the cameras were rolling, I was in position, and suddenly Sydney lunged at me, growling 'I AM GOING TO GET YOU!'. I'm tied up at this point, unable to get away or move much at all, but Sydney kept moving toward me, his eyes glaring at me as he went on detailing all the horrible things he was going to do to me, and let me tell you, Sydney has an inventive mind. He is also a great actor, and he scared the hell out of me. Sydney kept the camera rolling and he was relentless".' https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073802/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv |

I always thought Genevieve Bujold was great in Obsession. Real fire when they went after her daughter, plus struggling and a frantic look when she realizes they are taking her from her daughter. She goes from passive to consoling to despondent to aggressive despite the ropes and gag. For comedy, Joanna Lumley's scene in Class Act is solid. Groaning while being gagged, signaling with her head to have Nadine Garner come in. Alarm at seeing a bomb being set. Frustration with her rescuer. Good, amusing looks. Tabu, an Indian actress, won several of India's best actress awards for a movie Maachis. Her scene in that movie is very short, however. |
