Wednesday May 01 02:00:46 2019 martial law |
Sort of an odd question, but I've been seeing the old "Martial Law" series in syndication for the first time, and to end what I guess was season 1 they had a cliffhanger with Kelly Hu taped up inside a helicopter being flown away, and the hero falling out of said helicopter along with the lead villain. And then in the next season opener, both Kelly and Sammo are walking around and nothing is said, much less shown, about what happened. Does anyone know if they ever showed what happened? Even if it was a "Pam had a dream" thing, at least that would be some kind of explanation. And while I'm asking, have there been other DiD episodes on TV that were never really referenced after being set up? |

I think the show was canceled by CBS, then brought back as a mid season replacement the next year. I think they also changed the cast except for Sammo and Hu, so they decided to just ignore it. I thought someone said there was a passing line about it in the next episode but not sure. Either way, dumb decision. The show was canceled again for good shortly after. |

And then in the The show was barely renewed and new showrunners were brought it. They apparently decided to start over, which meant dropping the cliffhanger. |

On April 29 2019 Sam Steffen wrote: > Any scenes where a police woman is disarmed bound and > gagged in uniform There are plenty of examples in mainstream media of policewomen getting the treatment; but it’s usually as a consequence of going undercover in plainclothes and having that cover blown. A policewoman getting tied up in uniform is considerably less common, and usually requires that something super-violent occur, like storming a precinct. Anyway, a policewoman getting tied up in uniform is one of my favorite tropes. Doubly so if she’s bound in her own handcuffs (thoughtfully provided). Here are some of the best examples: Title: Hawaii Five-O (1968) Episode: "The Voice of Terror" (12.08) Damsel: Mary Angela Shea Patrol Off. Helen Macy (guest star Mary Angela Shea) and her male partner pull over a car filled with radicals who respond with high-powered automatic weapons, wounding both officers. Their leader abducts the female officer and locks her in her own handcuffs, hands to front (as she will stay for the rest of the episode), to force the authorities to give them access to the airwaves to broadcast their manifesto. Title: Rookie Blue Episode: "Fresh Paint" (1.01) Damsel: Missy Peregrym Her first day on the job, Off. Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym) commits a blunder and is forced to lock herself in her own handcuffs, hands to front. Title: Rookie Blue Episode: "The One That Got Away" (2.7) Damsel: Missy Peregrym Off. Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym), while conducting a search of a rape suspect’s public storage locker, is blindsided by the criminal and knocked unconscious. When she comes to, her ankles are bound with duct tape, her hands are behind her back (and presumably also tape bound), and tape gagged. When he goes to strangle her, he tells Andy not to look at him while he does the nasty. When she refuses to close her eyes, he tape blindfolds her in an onscreen close-up. One of Andy’s male colleagues arrives in the nick of time. After a brief struggle, he subdues and handcuffs the suspect. We are then treated to an onscreen close-up of the hero peeling off the tape blindfold and tape gag. Title: Pacific Blue Episode: "House Party" (3.19) Damsel: Darlene Vogel Criminals raid the precinct in an effort to free their recently arrested leader. Bicycle cop Chris Kelly (Darlene Vogel) is among those taken hostage. One member of the gang cuffs Off. Kelly’s hands behind her back and places her in a holding cell. She is later brought out to serve as a human shield. Title: Pacific Blue Episode: "Near Death" (4.19) Damsel: Darlene Vogel Off. Chris Kelly (Darlene Vogel) is knocked unconscious by a revenge-seeking criminal and taken to his hideout. She is next seen sitting in a chair, ankles taped, and her hands behind her back (and ostensibly bound). Just before she regains consciousness, the baddie plasters a huge square of black tape over her mouth, onscreen. The tape gag is later removed so that he can videotape her screaming in pain. Title: Charlie's Angels (1976) Episode: "Antique Angels" (2.24) Damsel: Cheryl Ladd Angel Kris Munroe (Cheryl Ladd) is caught snooping by thieves and tied up with white rope, hands to front. This counts because the Angels are working undercover at an antique car road rally dressed in vintage Keystone Cops uniforms. The crooks spirit Kris away in their antique car by passing her off as the “hostage” for their “bank robbers” theme. The other Angels (and Bosley) take up pursuit. Title: CHiPs Episode: "Satan's Angels" (4.7) Damsel: Randi Oakes CHP officer Bonnie Clark (Randi Oakes) is overwhelmed by an over-the-hill biker gang in the episode’s prologue. When next she is seen, she is wearing one of the gang’s leather jackets and being spirited away on his motorcycle with her hands cuffed to front with her own handcuffs. Later, cuffs removed, she is bound to chair onscreen with rope. Trivia: This episode features the very first TV acting credit for a then 19-year old blonde beauty who would later play a policewoman who frequently found herself in a bind – Heather Locklear, a.k.a. Off. Stacy Sheridan of “T.J. Hooker”. Speaking of which... Title: T.J. Hooker Episode: "The Obsession" (5.09) Damsel: Heather Locklear No list of uniformed policewomen in bondage would be complete without this absolute gem. In the opening minutes, Off. Stacy Sheridan (Heather Locklear) is taken hostage during a botched robbery, driven away in a getaway van, overpowered by two members of the gang and locked in her own handcuffs (hands behind, onscreen), and kept that way until the closing minutes. In between abduction and rescue, she experiences just about everything, including an all-too spectacular (and all-too brief) hogtie. |
