Moderation
I think it will be useful at this point to go over a few things regarding what I do and why.

1. "He makes it up as he goes along." Yep. I don't think I've ever made a secret of that. When I think things aren't right, I fix the situation. I'm not constrained by prior rules, I can change them and act on posts as I see the need. However, these changes are not capricious. I make them to address problems. Sure, I realize that it can be confusing when little is written down. But really, do you want to go through lists of rules and prior decisions? Not that most would anyway. People can't even get simple things right, like "no commercial stuff" or "videos go on the Video Page".

2. "Moderating my page for me." This has been a cardinal rule for a long time, and for good reason. No one else has the authority. It's a single-point-asshole system. That means I have had to come down on some well-meaning people, like the ones who were telling others not to post things because the answer could be found with the search feature. I agreed with the message, but it wasn't their message to give. Any time you say, "why did you post this?", you're probably in the wrong. That's just the way it is. It's none of your business unless you think it is off-topic or otherwise violates the rules. Then you can certainly ask for a point of order.

I won't bother with classics like, "why can't you be more polite" or "act professional" or "you just do this for XYZ" (power, insecurity, cruelty, psycho-babble du jour). I do this these mostly because some people rely on the site and I think more and more out sheer stubborness. My life would be a lot easier if I put a note that said, "It's been real, good luck in the future!"

I agree 100%...the only thing that would drive me away from my daily visit, is this incessant ranting about "poor me".

To quote one of my favorite heros, Johnny Bravo: That's enough about me, let's talk about me, what do you think about me? Enough already, please.

Speaking as somebody who has been here almost since the beginning, you do have a lot more people on your side than you may realize. We do listen to your edicts to ignore the trolls and to not respond to the off-topic egocentric nonsense, and to a casual reader it may appear that a high percentage of the readers are attacking you....

You've shown remarkable patience for more than 14 years, and the entire community owes you a resounding "thank you". Take your own advice - ignore the immature trolls that can't stand any sort of criticism, and keep moderating the page your way. And in case it isn't clear, thank you again for providing this forum.

To the Engineer
I access this website quite often on my cell phone.

Is there any way to have a more 'mobile friendly' page for people like me?

What would be great is if I could just go to 'm.brianspage.com' or somesuch and go straight to, say, the last 12 hours worth of posts without have to scroll through the two months worth of calendars and the Days/Hours selection.

I'm not really trying to make work for you. It's just that if the PHP programming allows it, how much of a pain would it be to run a parallel mobile site ('Discussion Page' only would be fine for me)?

And yes, I know, I'm a whiny baby who doesn't want to take an extra 10 seconds to scroll and a couple extra clicks.

Just asking...

Zatanna in trouble again
This is from the new issue (#12) of Zatanna's current comic.

To answer the obvious question, the reason he doesn't gag her is that he (conveniently) has the super-power to run time backwards, thus "undoing" all her backwards-talking spells. She is finally able to free herself and defeat him by using a palindrome: "Egad, no bondage!"

I don't write 'em, folks, I just report on 'em.
