Record number: 1257 Title: Joan of Arc (1999) Medium: TV Movie Actress: Leelee Sobieski Description: Two-part TV movie, Part 1 of which suprisingly begins with a short version of Joan's burning. Sobieski is bound to the stake with her hands behind her back, a chain between her shackled wrists running through an iron ring set into the back of the stake. Her ankles are also shackled above her bare feet. The only other thing of note in the first half is a quasi-gagging scene near the end. Joan is hit in the left shoulder by an arrow and falls from her horse; after being fortified from above by a vision of St. Catherine, she orders a knight attending her to break the barb off the arrow and pull it out. He offers her his gloves, suggesting she bite down on them during the procedure, and she obliges. Midway through Part 2, Joan is captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, and put on trial, during which she appears shackled hand and foot throughout. At the end comes a longer version of the execution, in which she is led shackled through a crowd of onlookers and shown being bound to the stake. |
