Record number: 68 Title: Gilligan's Island Medium: TV Series Actress: Dawn Wells, Tina Louise, Natalie Schafer Description: Episode: "How to Be a Hero" (1.24) Gilligan is depressed over his failure to rescue Mary Ann from drowning-- the Skipper saves them both. Later, Gilligan sees a headhunter on the island, but no one believes him. However, the other castaways decide to disguise the Skipper as a headhunter and allow him to "capture" them so that Gilligan can become a hero. Unfortunately, Gilligan overhears the plan. Meanwhile, the real headhunter captures Mary Ann, Ginger and the Professor. The Howells find the threesome tied hand and foot to stakes. Frond (!) gags cover their mouths, and despite mmpphing for all they're worth, they are unable to warn the millionaire and his wife that the headhunter is behind them. It's a brief scene, but it features a long shot of the three of them-- Mary Ann is wearing her trademark short shorts, and Ginger is wearing a form-fitting dress fashioned from some item from the Minnow ("S.S. MINNOW" is prominently displayed on the skirt) in the background. In a later scene, two more stakes have been added, and Gilligan discovers the five captives tied up. The Howells have not been gagged, but they are unable to convice Gilligan that this situation is anything other than a trick. The real headhunter returns, and Gilligan "plays along" in a mock fight scene. During the shenanigans, there is a close-up of Mary Ann, and several shots in which she is prominently featured, writhing at the stake. (Ginger remains only in long shots.) Finally, the Skipper (disguised as a headhunter) shows up, and Gilligan realizes the truth in time to send his foe into a handy campfire. After everyone has been untied, Mary Ann can be seen holding a loop of the rope. This is from the first season of black-and-white episodes, subsequently colorized, and occurs at 19-24mins of the iTunes release without commercials. |

Record number: 648 Title: That Darn Cat (1997) Medium: Movie Actress: Rebecca Koon, Christina Ricci Description: At the start of this Disney comedy, at 3mins in, a matronly woman (Koon) is abducted by being handgagged and dragged out of her apartment, with some surprised mmpphhing. We do not see her again until 18mins, whereby she is shown sitting in a chair with her hands bound in front with two white zipties (each interlocked to form 'handcuffs') and a number of turns of very thick white rope around her torso. The titular cat discovers her in what looks to be an abandoned apartment, and Koon fastens her wristwatch as a collar on the cat to summon help. She is seen again at 1hr 5mins, now gagged with a strip of duct tape and having been discovered by teenaged sleuth Ricci. However, both are soon rumbled by a pair of crooks. Finally, at 1hr 12mins, we see Koon bound and re-gagged as before, along with Ricci tied to a chair hands in front with brown rope and gagged a strip of duct tape (this being a comedy, the cat also gets a gag). Neither damsel does any emoting, as Ricci's detective buddy soon barges in and frees them both; he also ungags them both onscreen with a loud "rip" of the tape. |
