Record number: 20890 Title: Tarzan (1966) Medium: TV Series Actress: Diana Hyland Description: Episode: "The Fanatics" (2.07) At 35mins, (including commercials) lady reporter and Tarzan are captured by bad guys trying to rig a tribal election. 40mins-They are tied down stretched out on the beach so that they will drown when the tide comes in, and the bodies will be eaten by piranha to get rid of the evidence. Diana gets a knife from her breast pocket with her mouth and tosses it over to Tarzan. He works it under his body to his hand and cuts himself to get the piranha to attack the ropes. When he's free he cuts her hands free. Now it gets really silly. They've been quiet to this point since the mob of bad guys is sitting a few feet away, but Tarzan shouts "go" to get Diana to untie her ankles, jump up and run across an inlet to escape. He assures her the piranha won't be a problem since she's wearing boots. The issues (beyond the obvious lapses in logic): 1) She's wearing boots, but he's not. 2) Piranha are native to South America, not Africa. 3) it would be a lot easier to kill them and dump them in the water then to wait for the tide to come in. 4) Tarzan cuts his wrist to attract piranha to bite through his ropes, but he could have cut the rope with the knife. |

Record number: 324 Title: The Avengers (1961) Medium: TV Series Actress: Diana Rigg Description: Episode: "The Bird Who Knew Too Much" (5.5) Emma is surprised by two thugs, and chloroformed (slumping nicely into her captor's clutches). She is dragged to a chair, and tied to it with white rope, hands in front, and OTM gagged onscreen with a very wide black cloth (which covers almost half her face), all while she's unconscious. A gun is rigged to shoot her if the door is opened to rescue her; the bad guy tying her props her head up against the back of the chair as he leaves. When she awakens, and realizes her danger, her struggling is unconvincing, since the bondage isn't terribly secure, but we do get to watch her plight for several minutes, until Steed comes through the window to rescue her. Not Dame Diana's most stringent role, but her casual manhandling by her captors is rather sexy. Wearing a blue cloth catsuit. Chloroformed at about 28 minutes then tied to the chair with thin white rope, the gag is black. Seen again at 30 minutes and rescued at 32 minutes (in a 50 minute broadcast slot without adverts). Faux gag fans may appreciate the "suitable for open-car motoring" outfit she chooses when she leaves at the end, with a white dust-mask covering her lower face, topped with a clear visor. |

The sequence began around the 40' mark on the A&E channel in the States, with numerous closeups over the next ten minutes or so, until she's released. In a UK BBC broadcast, with no adverts, there were three short glimpses of her gagged shot from the shoulders up, and a slightly longer scene where her hands are seen tied in front just before she is cut free. They came at 28, 29, 32 and 34' in a 43' episode (in a 45' time slot with trailers for other programs). Recording from 25' in to 50' past the hour should catch 'em all. |

Later in the episode, he cleave-gags her again with a white cloth. Some moaning and struggling by the bound and gagged Rebeca as she tries to alert an investigating Carola from the basement, scooting over to knock over some basement clutter. In chapter 104, Gonzalo comes down to the basement with a gun, but can’t bring himself to kill the terrified bound and gagged woman. At the end of the episode, Rebeca sits up as she hears her sister’s voice upstairs talking to Gonzalo. Chapter 105 begins with Rebeca struggling across the floor to the stairs in a short scene attempting, in vain, to alert her sister. Rebeca is finally discovered and rescued at the end of this episode. |
