Record number: 1769 Title: Jupiter's Darling (1955) Medium: Movie Actress: Esther Williams, Marge Champion Description: The plots of Esther Williams' movies defy description, but here goes: Hannibal's men captures the lovely Amytis (Williams) and her slave girl (Champion) outside the gates of Rome as the two are trying to catch sight of Hannibal. After about 50' into the movie, the red-haired Amytis takes Hannibal (Howard Keel) to a temple so that she can show him a way into the city or Rome. Hannibal singing brings the Romanian army to investigate. Amytis then screams, which causes Hannibal to handgag her. He proceeds to silencing her with a two piece gag and binds her wrists behind her back. Hannibal fights several soldiers, while Amytis sits there and watches. He then carries her over his shoulder to his chariot, and escapes from attacking Roman soldiers with the mewing Williams seated in the back of his chariot. As he rolls into camp, Hannibal proceeds to throw her out of the chariot with her still bound and gagged. Her slave girl arrives and proceeds to ungag her. Amytis is dragged into Hannibal's tent with her arms still bound behind her back in order to beg for her life. He eventually unties her. A while later, Hannibal finds out who she really is and has her chained up. We only see this when the ex slave man enter the tent to unchain the slave girl. Amytis (Williams) is chained standing against a pole with her hands down beside her. Her blonde slave girl (Williams) is chain sitting disconcertedly on a pillar. The man takes the slave girl with him, but she goes back into the tent and wants to be chained up again. She manages to knock him out and proceeds to excape with Amytis The script (fashioned by Dorothy Kingsley) includes these two priceless lines: "Chain me up again!" and "I'll deliver you to your lover and throw you at his feet, bound and gagged." |
