This page is for posting links to online streaming video, Youtube and things like that. The rules are somewhat looser than Discussion. You can post and discuss mainstream and related amateur video. Do not post clips from commercial videos. It's usually not that hard to tell the difference.

| From thread started in the Discussion section... I found it. It's a short film. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPXrIMtu_a8 I did a quick scan and it looks like the scene starts at 17:35 with Clarkson (playing a POW) being dragged into a room with a sack over her head. At 18:04 the bag is removed to reveal a tapegagged Clarkson. At 18:24 she removes the tape. The actual scenes of Clarkson are shown as B&W film projected on a screen and are intercut with present day shots of a soldier suffering from PTSD, who is watching (or maybe imagining) the film. I didn't watch the short but just skimmed through it, so I don't really know what's going on. Caveat: the total onscreen time for Clarkson with the tape gag is likely 10 seconds or less. Still a nice find. Who knew? Not in the DB, so thank you to the original poster for the request, which prompted my search. (Note: I'll defer to someone who may actually want to watch the film to add it to the database with perhaps a better synopsis of the plot, etc.) |

My thought is that we should document titles in their native character set to the greatest extent possible. I was delighted to discover that Google Translate will now transliterate as well as translate titles, though, and I think that the transliterated titles as well as the translated titles should go in the "AKA" field. I've added a field to the "Clips" sheet for timecodes. As you pointed out, Youtube does allow you to directly link to a video at a certain time, but this isn't actually flexible enough for our purposes. If there's a 45 minute episode that has scenes at the 5 minute and 40 minute marks, you'd need two URLs to link to both of them. Throw in the probability that some of these clips will be hosted on other sites (Does Dailymotion allow you to link directly to a timecode? Does Vimeo?), and I think adding a new field is the best solution. Thinking of adding a sheet to the project for requests. The catch here will be that anybody wanting to add a request is strongly advised to add a corresponding entry to the Scenes or Clips page. I have put editing on the sheet open to the public. Totally anonymous, too, so you don't have to create a login or anything like that to do that. I'm relieved to find that nobody's vandalized it, but nobody's added anything either. In any case I've updated the sheets with all the data from your spreadsheet, with a few minor changes to the formatting. I don't plan on doing any kind of mass reupload, so anybody who wants to start adding stuff is welcome to. I have a stock lecture ready about the principles of proper data entry, but I think I'll save it until I start seeing people putting in garbage data. |

Yeah...I think the convention will need to be somewhat flexible for things like soaps, simply due to the fact that we may not always have complete information. With soaps, I've been using the first one of these which is known: 1) Episode number (Exxx) 2) Airdate in "yyyymmdd" format 3) Actress name(s), hyphen-separated, add "2" etc. if multiple scenes If more information becomes available, I think it's fine to update the name accordingly. For multi-episode sequences, my first instinct is that each episode should have its own scene entry (which isn't always the case in Brian's DB), which means that clips that span multiple episodes would have multiple entries as well. Do you think we need a scene ID if we have the name? I can see some advantages, but I'd also like to leverage Brian's DB as much as possible and am slightly concerned that having two numeric IDs for the same scene could be confusing. Agreed. For the main title, I think we should use the primary IMDb title, reduced to a very basic character set that would work within filenames on all platforms. (So no accented Roman characters, even; use the unaccented letter instead. Also no slashes. I've been including ampersands but not apostrophes, but that's pretty arbitrary and I'm pretty sure both are fine.) That seems fine for now, since you should have the ability to revert any vandalizations or garbage entries that occur. However, I'm guessing there's a better-than-even chance that you'll end up wanting to require registration for editing the scene and clip sheets (though not the request sheet), just as Brian does for his DB.
