The bounty hunter is not what he seems and after killing her boyfriend kidnaps Denise, at 42-43mins, to keep her out of the way. She is shown at a warehouse, sitting on the floor against a pillar; her hands are implied to be bound behind her back and around the pillar, but no bonds are visible. No gag. Some timid struggling and pleading with her captor to be let free as the bounty hunter pours gasoline everywhere and gets ready to set fire to the warehouse (made even worse by the fact that it is a paint factory). Just in time, Zebra Three roars up outside and Starsky and Hutch save her before any fire can be started. However, her onscreen time as a damsel is only 20secs. No untying sequence. Hutch discovers her, peels off the tape (with some effort), but opts to leave her there and go after the villain instead. She is not happy about this. Her capture is shown a while earlier, when she is grabbed and handgagged from a restaurant where she is posing as a waitress (all along wearing a very cute red minidress with fishnets). All the action occurs in the last 15mins of the episode. In the epilogue, both Starsky and Hutch are at HQ, humorously discussing Sally's predicament. Hutch: "I run up to her, pull the tape off her mouth....we left her tied up for at least thirty minutes!" When Sally happily enters the office, Hutch continues with the banter: "You got kidnapped, you got thrown in the back of a car, you got tied up and left there....that's terrific!" Sally responds coyly: "Well, a girl's gotta start somewhere." After a few seconds, we cut to her showing off her skills as she judo-flips both guys around like rag dolls, laughing at them and telling them "That's for leaving me tied up in the oil field!" She is wearing her school uniform (a white blouse, brown cardigan sweater, plaid skirt and saddle shoes). She stops to chat with an acquaintance sitting in a van parked at the curb. However, an accomplice of his grabs Joanna from behind, handgagging her and dragging her to the back of the van. At 13mins the kidnappers arrive at a junkyard, where, now with her hands tied behind her back, her ankles roped together, and OTM gagged with a thick triangularly-folded white cloth, Joanna is shown being carried in another baddie's arms to an old delivery truck in which she will be killed when it goes into the crusher unless she is found in time. One of the captors pulls her gag down to mess around with her a bit, at 20-21mins. His accomplice protests, so the gag is replaced and both bid her farewell. The outcome, of course, is up to the episode's title character who tries to divine the victim's location from a picture of her, at 28mins, resulting in a split-second close-up shot of her roped ankles and another of her writhing and struggling. He tries again at 42mins, just before the truck is loaded into the crusher, which begins a sequence of furious struggling sequences lasting until her eventual rescue at 44-45mins.
