So point is, sometimes folks DO notice and so I think some director realize that in some cases, realism is a better way to go.

I suppose that makes sense. I can definitely understand how there are many directors out there that want to achieve realism, outside of a scene just looking effective. For example, if a show's kidnapper is especially brutal, stuffing adds to that effect. Or like you said, especially tight ties/gag, such as Dushku in Wrong Turn for example. To me it just always seemed like if the ties and gag looked legit (and maybe are legit) then why add more, what's the motive? But I like your train of thought.

In answer to your surprise that so many pointed that particular instance out, people tend to notice plot holes or "goofs" in movies in general, so I think it had less to do with it specifically being a damsel scene and more to do with that. That's my guess anyways.

Wrong Turn Fun Fact
I'm a big fan of behind the scenes movie stuff, and I found out today that one of the original scripts of Wrong Turn called for Dushku's character to be stripped while she was tied to the bed. This site might have never recovered if that had stayed in.

Haha! I used to watch a lot of horror movies as a kid and this was one of the more eye opening moments for me. It's stuck with me forever. Great scene. She was re-gagged recently but it holds nothing to Wrong Turn.

Well, such a pity they eventually didn't choose this way! xD

At least we have that other lenghty scene with her, from "Banshee"; Eliza's bondage and predicament reminds the one from "Wrong Turn, but she's also clad in a skimpy attire and barefoot.

Some examples of DVDs I have:
Jungle Girl - 2 different versions, one no doubt pirated. One shows Frances Gifford bound to a pole and menaced by a gorilla. The other shows her bound to a horizontal pole over a pit in a crucifixion-type pose.
Screaming Dead - on the back, several pictures of women chained or otherwise confined on torture equipment.
Penumbra - Christina Brando with arms behind and a cleave gag on the cover.
The Cottage - Jennifer Ellison on the back in a small pic with an OTM.
Haunter - Abigail Breslin on the back tape gagged.
The Abductors - front cover and back show women in lingerie tied arms behind with black OTM gags.
It Happened at Nightmare Inn - on the back, a closeup of Judy Geeson's face (partial) including the scarf over her mouth.
When a killer Calls - photo of the heroine tied AOH and a thick cleave.
The Perfect Tenant - Tracy Nelson with a tape gag and a noose around her neck.
Girl From UNCLE part one - small photo of Stefanie Powers tape gagged, being threatened.
Manhunt of Mystery Island - Small photo of Linda Sterling seated, tied arms behind and with an OTM.
Transporter - small photo of Shu Qi over hero's shoulder with mouth taped and hands taped in front.
Fear dot Com - early DVD with side flip latch opens to a large picture of a woman strapped to a chair with a wide strap over her otherwise bare breasts, a strap across her forehead, and a leather panel gag across her mouth.
Hope all of those help some.

That one is from an Aurora Teagarden mystery. Neither women were tied up.

Haven't' watched this one yet.....but are you saying it was a 2-hour episode? (since you said "30 minutes into second hour of Criminal Minds"). I know mine only recorded a regular 1-hour episode :-(

about 1hr38min into the movie the mom is handgagged and dragged off camera. A second woman enters the house and is KO'd. About 10 min later the second woman awakes tied to a chair. See quickly frees herself and finds the mom who is duct taped to a chair and stuff-gagged.
