Sunday February 19 10:22:16 2006 [7351] Hercules: The Legendary Journeys |
Present entry:
Record number: 7351 Title: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys Medium: TV Series Actress: Claudia Black Description: Episode: Unknown Claudia plays the character "Cassandra" in episodes "Atlantis," and "Hercules on Trial." In one of those episodes she has her hands tied in front. Pretty decent lengthy scene. ------------ This could be the Atlantis ep; The Hercules on Trial will be aired here later; in case of action, I will put that in at that time. So...: Record number: 7351 Title: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys Medium: TV Series Actress: Claudia Black Description: Episode: "Atlantis" (3.22) The King of Atlantis, Pantheis, is a bit of a mad scientist. Using his "crystal technology" he has invented ray guns, flying machines, a torture device, a "crystal wave oven" etc. It's kind of retro-tech, devices with big nuts and bolts, shaped in jugend-style, not unlike those devices Capt. Nemo or Flash Gordon has. The King's search for crystals has, however, undermined the island with mineshafts everywhere, soon to lead to Atlantis' doom. Cassandra (Black) is a seer who has a vision of the island going under. (as well as herself being saved by Herk). She tells Pantheis of her vision, and is rewarded by being captured. Her hands are cuffed in front with big retro-tech handcuffs, in a rather long scene. (Guy alert) Later the King, wanting to know why and how Atlantis is to meet it's destiny- something Cassandra doesn't know- has her strapped to a chair, wrists to armrests, and subjected to the torture machine: some crystals on a metal device; the crystals are hanging one inch from her head. When Pantheis pulls a lever the crystals glow, there's a humming noise, and the heroine seems to be in pain. In those kinds of situations, the helpless-but brave- heroine usually says something like "No I will not!" (reveal the secret; marry you; tell where the hero is etc)," You are evil!". Cassandra follows tradition, saying "Even if I knew I would not tell you! You are a monster!" Saved by Herk of course. Wears a dress-not Ancient Greek, more 13'th century French peasant girl's dress style. No gags. |

I was a bit disappointed having watched this scene after reading the description.
Not that the description is wrong; but maybe something like this should be added: While watching this episode in normal speed, the only restraints you will see are Jack's handcuffs. Just before Sydney is freed by Jack, there's a short zooming in on her while she's sitting in her cell. If watching this short sequence one frame at a time, one can-barely- see, in just a couple of frames, that Garner actually IS wearing cuffs and legirons. You will know she's freed by the movements of her and Jack's shoulders and the sound of cuffs being unlocked. As for the last scene, restraints are not shown at all; we see Irina's head and shoulders from behind. We can tell she's uncuffed in the same way. |

Sunday February 19 22:49:35 2006 Sky King 3853 & 3854 |
One of my Christmas presents this year was the complete 72 Sky King episodes on DVD. After viewing all disks, I must conclude that these two entries are products of scene creep.
Entry 3853 refers to scenes involving the kidnapping of Penny (Gloria Winters) and Clipper King (Ron Hagerthy), with both actors bound and tightly cleave gagged in the back seat of a plane then forced to exit the plane by walking down the wing. Ron Hagerthy appeared only in the first season episodes (1.1 through 1.19) and in only one of those episodes (Formula for Fear, 1.14)were he and Gloria Winters bound onscreen at the same time or even in the same episode. The cleave gags fit this scene, and the villains force them to walk toward the door of a house to be moved to the Flying Crown Ranch, but no planes are involved. Mr. Hagerthy was shown cleave gagged with hands bound in front in episode 1.10, The Man Who Forgot, but never with Ms. Winters. Entry 3854 describes Penny bound to a post in a warehouse while henchmen play cards. This seems to be a creep of episode 1.15, The Giant Eagle. When bad guy John Alvin shows Sky that he has Panny as hostage, he does it by opening a door in the hideout to reveal her arm bound (but hands free)to a chair with ankles bound and a cleave gag. Earlier in the episode, bad guys Murray Alper and Tom Tyler were shown playing cards at a table directly in front of this door. It seems a reasonable guess that the two events became merged in someone's memory. The best source on the Web for Sky King is Kent Volgamore of Kae Vee's Place. He has discussed the series with Gloria Winters and she says that there were only 72 shows made, and that the alleged 60 lost episodes are a myth. Since neither of the scenes above appear in the complete edition and since scene creep seems a likely explanation for the details described, they probably do not exost as described. |
