Jim Bowie
Day: Monday May 09 2016
Time: 10:00 AM Eastern
Channel: Cozi
Record number: 20270

Title: The Adventures of Jim Bowie
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Lorna Thayer, Charlotte Austin

Description: Episode: "Eye for an Eye" (1.26)

Miss Thayer plays an unsympathetic character (Mattie Cameron); that is, you will feel no sympathy for her. Miss Austin plays Menthune, the wannabe Pocahontas to Scott Forbes' Jim Bowie (yes, there is a brief sequence that re-enacts the legendary event with John Smith, but I digress).

At about 11:00 Menthune (Miss Austin) screams loudly off-screen; we learn that her would-be abductors wanted to take her in retaliation for the off-screen abduction of Mattie (Miss Thayer).

Half-hour dramas in that period generally either skipped the abduction and rescue sequences, or the captivity sequences, regardless of when the story was set (i.e. either a period piece or a then-current detective show). This episode opts for skipping the abduction, though it probably would have been fun: Miss Thayer got her start in theater, and was a great actress.

At about 13:45 we enter the native lodge where Mattie is held captive. In an establishing shot, we see her at medium range, clearly staked out, her arms wide and her torso propped up slightly with a blanket to allow the camera to take the greatest advantage of her [borrowing from Joe Bob Briggs] two *outstanding* talents.

This was no Hollywood fakery: later close-ups show her genuinely staked out with heavy leather thongs to large stakes driven into the "ground" in the sound stage. She wore a tight-fitting frontier blouse and what appears to be a skirt (as opposed to a bulky blanket draped over her), but her ankles are clearly staked out, too. In keeping with 1950s decorum, the skirt/blanket was a must: otherwise we'd have been seeing between her widely spread legs.

For the next nine minutes, Mattie is shown in varying close-ups. Her gag is also the real deal: in fact, if this isn't the best all-time mainstream gaggage (and I've seen a *lot*), then it's in the top three. A big knotted bandanna is stuffed in her mouth, and the knot can be seen numerous times as she squirms, struggles, stifled whimpers slipping from behind the gag. The gag is tied *tightly* behind her head, under her hair.

Alternately glaring daggers at her captors, she also emotes fear well, as her life is threatened if the Indian warrior's wife dies of her injuries. Whether in a medium shot or a close-up, the camera shows us Mattie's assets, which are delectable and bountious.

Bowie gets captured; Menthune releases him in return for a sworn promise of marriage so that he can retrieve a "white doctor" (the ancient medicine man's non-stop chanting having no effect on the injured woman's recovery whatsoever). He's released, gets said doctor (yes, played by DeForest Kelley, who does indeed get the line, "I'm a doctor" without any "... not a [whatever]" added to it, though it's sort of implied) and returns.

Upon their arrival they see Menthune staked out just as Bowie had been, in his place. Her buckskin dress ends just below the knee, so she is less widely spread at the ankles, and at right angles to the camera and Mattie (no up-skirts for us *or* the crew). Menthune's time on camera in this state is brief as she is released from her penance because Bowie returned (given the ep's meme, I wonder if she would have stayed staked out, bound to the four stakes forever, had he not returned...). She also wasn't gagged.

We still see Mattie staked out. More close-ups and background shots as Bowie and the doctor escape yet more leather-thong imprisonment. Throughout the nine minutes we hear her frightened, gagged mewing.

As the episode winds up, Mattie is ultimately released (no, we don't get to watch; it would have been fun to see that tight, real-deal gag removed from her mouth).

Given that most of nine minutes of the episode's "25 minutes are focused inside the lodge, with Mattie staked out and tightly gagged, the mind races: who decided to gag her so securely, not to mention tie her that way? Did she urge the director to "make it real?" The other way around? Other questions arise as well. And given the number of takes required to produce a TV show, she probably spent the bulk of two day's shooting spread-eagled, staked out with heavy leather thongs and tightly, deeply gagged with the thick bandanna.

Miss Austin was a young, beautiful starlet in her early twenties; Miss Thayer was a handsome veteran actress just leaving her mid-thirties.

Tank Girl
Day: Monday May 09 2016
Time: 1:30 AM Eastern
Channel: El Rey
Record number: 2504

Title: Tank Girl (1995)
Medium: Movie
Actress: Lori Petty, Ann Magnuson, Stacy Linn Ramsower, Naomi Watts

Description: Tank Girl (Petty) is brought before the evil Malcolm McDowell (who I'm sure is a peach of a guy in real life) with her hands bound behind her around 20 minutes in (with commercials). She is later seen in a straitjacket with a restraining chain attached to the back about 35minutes into this adaptation of the underground comic book. In the very next scene, she is laced up in a full-body canvas bag (without the straitjacket).

In another scene, Ms. Magnuson, as a madam, is forced to sing "Let's Do It", but is gagged with white tape while Tank Girl takes over. Scene occurs about halfway through.

Towards the end, Sam (Ramsower) is shown in a dangling spreadeagle as bait for Tank Girl.

Lastly, Tank Girl and Jet Girl (Watts) have their wrists strapped in front around the 65-minute mark, are released, then restrapped with locked chains. The sequence ends around 75 minutes in.

Xena
Day: Monday May 09 2016
Time: 7:00 PM Eastern
Channel: Heroes & Icons
Record number: 1395

Title: Xena: Warrior Princess
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Lucy Lawless

Description: Episode: "Vanishing Act" (3.20)

At 28m (no commercials) Lucy Lawless is tied to a chair with her hands behind her back and cleave-gagged. The scene starts with a great overhead cleavage shot. She makes some very strange noises though her gag. Also, she is in costume and is has a very distracting (and fake) mole on her chin.

Fairly short scene. Five seconds after being left alone, she's back in her leather garb and kicking butt.
