Monday July 28 21:18:26 2003 Editors: Actresses and stuff |
I'm starting work on the tools that will convert the existing database to an SQL database at some point in the future. The first task is processing the actresses, because it's the biggest mess. I've put the current output on a website for you guys to look at, see link below(only editors can access it). The stuff at beginning that is labeled "Odd size name" means just that, the names didn't fall into the First Last Middle pattern. Some I'll have to figure out, mostly foreign names. However, it also tagged tons of problems. 1. The AKA ones. A lot of those are cases of replacing characters in names with English equivalents. I'm not sure that those are true aliases for the actress. We may be able to get rid of those and have a smarter search feature eventually. 2. Real aliases will need to be flagged though, that is ones that are listed just as a general AKA as opposed to a case where a different name was used in a particular scene. I have handled those, as you can see from the titles. 3. There are some that list "this name or that name". I think those should be changed to Unknown, and the note put in the Description. 4. The multiple unknowns (i.e. three unknown) should change to read (Unknown, Unknown, Unknown). We will have to have atomic values eventually. 5. I think the Animated and Puppets etc. should change to match the IMDB format, that is to list the actress and flag it as (voice). This will all be part of making the database a real one, that means we can't have free format fields like the actresses. I have already cleaned up some things, like '&', ';' or "and" between names. There are still a few that are wrong, like periods between names. 6. Right now, I'm not asking you guys to do anything except give me feedback. If you see an error or something, obviously fix it as normal. However, the bulk of any changes will be done automagically. Also, on the AKAs, if it is a where it should be the standard (credit as) style then feel free to fix it if you want. http://brianspage.com/dbedit/actresses.html |

As know you're aware, the great run of the German shows here recent has had me going back & forth with Peter's ep-guides sites frequent. In pretty much all cases, only the ep-titles translated different, but the cast names all left be. If that Kommissar Rex cleave gag scene airs this week? I can check through whole cast list for that series from Euro info on it as well. It is possible that one of these shows could air in US, but figure they'd leave actress' name alone and mess with the titles like they do here. |
