I've pretty much finished the Episode extractor. I don't plan to do much with the episode information, because I don't think people really search on it very much. I won't be bothering with extracting AKAs or any of that.
I ran through the output, mostly looking for parse problems. It's pretty clean. I'll discuss some of the things that I noticed in separate messages. http://brianspage.com/dbedit/episodes.html |

The episode information for Soaps is pretty bad, people aren't using any kind of consistent style. You can check doing a search for the word "episode" in Description with Medium set to "Soap Opera" (do a Match All Fields search of course).
The information isn't even consistently located at the start of the Description and most don't even trigger the tool so they are ignored. Examples: Description: Episode made in early 2001. Description: Episode -- originally aired 3/22/2002 Description: Episode ran on Feb 28, 2002. Description: Episodes aired from late July through early August 1979: Description: Handgagged again. This time in the forest while fleeing two crap actors. Episode screened November 21, 2001 in Australia. Description: Episode 11/06/01 Description: Episode -- August 17, 2001 Description: Episode shown on 12 March 2001 Description: Around Episode 50: This one made the tool go, but the output was not what we want: All my Children Greenlee (Rebecca) has been taken captive . . . That's because it looks like: Record #3282 Title: All my Children Medium: Soap Opera Actress: Rebecca Budig Description: Oct.11,2000 episode: Greenlee (Rebecca) has been taken captive . . . Some parsed ok: Dark Shadows (1966) "118" to "127" Days of Our Lives "October 8, 2002" Bold and The Beautiful, The "3498" The Soap "Prisoner" has episode info, but even so it's rather inconsistent: Number 652 Number 658 "Number 669" "Number 660" |

Here are some other things that caught my eye. I don't really care about any of it, it's not a problem for the tool. Just things for you who have been doing the Episode information to look at.
I wasn't looking that carefully, and many of these are representative of general conditions. Up to you guys whether to do anything with them or not. Airwolf "Flowers of the Mountains" (1.11)? or "Mime Troupe" (1.15)? If unsure, shouldn't it be "unknown"? Crazy Like a Fox "Bum Tip" (?) Is the (?) here unsure of episode name or showing missing ep number? Ancient Prophecies Part 1 Is this the actual episode name? If so, should be in ""? Baron, The "Storm Warning, Part 1" "The Island", Part 2 Inconsistent where the Part designator goes. Batman Beyond (1999) "Rebirth" Part 1 (1.1) Comma, no comma for Parts? Bedtime Stories 11, aka "Truth or Dare" Wouldn't "Truth or Dare" (11) be more in line with others? Cagney and Lacey 37 "Heat." More inconsistency. Charmer, The ? (1.1) Unsure of episode? Clutch Cargo 119 "120" Cop Shop 500 Are these numbers actual episode names? Daylight Robbery (1999) 8 of 8 Parts? Title? Freedom "Assassins" (Originally Aired 11/10/2000) Generally don't have notes in episode line. George Gobel Show Aired Oct 9 1954 That's not an episode name. Muppet Show, The "Guest, Lynn Redgrave" (3.23) (5.7) Is that first a real episode name? If made up, second should be "Guest, Glenda Jackson". Mysterious Ways "Muti" (2.20) (??) Two ?? means different? NeverWhere (1996) 5 & 6 Episode name, two ep numbers? Red Shoe Diaries "Caged Bird" 29, "The Cake" Why no number for first? Why not aka on the second like most others? Something is Out There Pilot Is it actually called "Pilot"? Many are. Spellbinder "7" Spellbinder (1995) "24" "25" "26" A title note, two different titles for same show. Thrills "Beauty and the Beach" (1.1) 2 If the first has real ep info, shouldn't second? Vacances De L'amour, Les (1996) 82 aka "Passion Dangereuse" No comma. |

Well they don't use any consistent style in any of the entries, but at least with Movies & TV we can search up their air-scheds etc, to sort them. Soap entries are a bugger to sort, so if you have a plan? |

Tuesday August 05 13:55:28 2003 Re: Brian R Post - Recent Entry Questions? |
Brian you've asked alot of questions that admit don't have the answers for, but I'll take a crack at sorting. Noticed afew that threw off your tool were in recent ones, last 30 actually, so what figure? Record number: 8952 Title: Renegade (1992) Medium: TV Series Actress: Sheree J. Wilson Description: Episode: "Final Judgement" (1.3) On the last 15 minutes, a crook capture judge Stone (Sheree) and handcuffed her, arm on the front. He carry her OTS to a truck, beat the driver and try to escape using the truck, carrying her as a hostage. Fortunately the hero rescue her after an accident. No gag. She was wearing a blue suite. Okay, counted 14 previous entries with just "Renegade", so have no idea why poster added "(1992)"? Perhaps may post on Discussion how the Date in TV Series was meant for multiple titles. Might sort it for future? ______________ Record number: 8946 Title: Thunder in Paradise (1994) Medium: TV Movie Actress: Carol Alt Description: In the movie that became the pilot for the TV series, In the last 45 minutes of the movie, Hulk Hogan's daughter and Carol Alt are kidnapped and held on the bad guys' boat, wrists tied behind. When Hulkster in "Thunder" closes in, they throw them overboard still bound (despite their understandable protests) to divert the pursuit. The damsels are able to hold their breath long enough to be rescued. Description sound exact to this one. Record number: 340 Title: Thunder in Paradise Medium: TV Series Actress: Carol Alt Description: Episode: "Sealed With A Kismet" Part 1 & 2 (1.6 & 1.7)? In two episodes she gets tied behind the back, in both episodes she ends up on a boat and going for a swim with her hands tied behind her back. Perhaps the solution be to remind the fellas every once in awhile over on Discussion to alert us to this? ___________ Re: Record number: 8945 No idea why? posted the Episode Title in the Title Field Previous B.L. Stryker ep title was in the Description. Figure will just have to carry on as are and try to catch them as they show ____________ Re: #8934, #8939, #8940, #8941, #8942, #8943 Did adjusting your tool sort these? If still a problem? Let me know. ______________ Record number: 8955 Title: Sri Andalas Medium: Movie Actress: Musmi Azian Description: Tied up behind the back at post and black gagged ------- Record number: 8956 Title: Sri Andalas Medium: Movie Actress: Azizah Description: Tied up behind the back and black cloth gagged Bet these two need to be merged? |

In two episodes she gets tied behind the back, in both episodes she ends up on a boat and going for a swim with her hands tied behind her back. -------------------- No, these should be separate entries. #8946 was the movie/pilot, took place on a yacht-sized boat, and included both Carol Alt & and Hogan's daughter. #340 was a later 2-part episode, took place on a 4-passenger sized motorboat, and Alt was the only DiD. What other plot devices could "Thunder"'s writers have come up with for two ex-Navy Seals, given one with Hulk Hogan's acting skills? |

Do you recall anything else about the ep to help me ID it, as that question mark must have been what buggered Brian's tool? Just want to check, thanx |

"Generally don't have notes in episode line." Okay, here's another of the recent ones: Record number: 8933 Title: Freitag Nacht News Medium: TV Series Actress: Ruth Moschner Description: German comedy series. In a segment called "Agentin Doppel D" (Agent Double D, an allusion to Moschner's bra size) the heroine is tied to a chair in a black leather outfit. A rather short scene, but the damsel is hot. No gag. Guy alert. _______ Did a search and this the only entry for the series-similar. Figure we might be looking at someone unfamiliar with DB, so's can see this being an ongoing thing. As this a very recent one Only suggestions could offer at the moment, perhaps I could take a crack at starting up a page that would have more detailed posting instructions, and you could link it to your entry page or something? Have some examples, etc. Other than that? |

Tuesday August 05 17:37:35 2003 Re: Brian's Post- This One Okay |
Spellbinder "7" Spellbinder (1995) "24" "25" "26" "A title note, two different titles for same show." Okay, this one me. Sorted now, as you'll find out when you check your mailbox in a few days. ;) Basically here was the problem, other than the Spellbinder movie, there's two English Spellbinder series: Spellbinder (1995) Spellbinder: Land of the Dragon Lord Right now here, two different channels are airing both these series with same French title Maitres Des Sortileges, Les Plan was to tape scan till caught the scene, and see which plot it belonged to.....which now have. This really the only one where had a hassle like this. After I correct it, don't see a problem in future. |

Not only very apt, but it also describes some of the movie's elements (but just mentions a "ridiculous kidnapping"). |

If you want it to be Officially in the episode part of the New Database then somehthing will need to be done. Any that cause a false trigger I will deal with though. |

Those examples I gave don't even trigger the tool, the format doesn't match at all. The looks for either Episode: XXXXX Episode unknown I can adjust to look for: Description: EpisodeXXXXXXXXX Then trim out any leading not alphanumerics. In fact I'll whip that up this evening and show you. |

I started doing that at one point but lost momentum. Examples are good, I'd go ahead and put them right on the entry page perhaps. I'll look at adding an Episode entry box. It won't be "official" in that all it will do is stick the info in the Description, but may help regularize things. |

The scene occurred within a *segment* of an episode ... there might be two or three within the full program. I had gone with: "Description: Segment:" I wasn't sure if this might not cause a problem ... so I've just searched on "segment" in the Description field and changed "Segment" to "Episode", then made it clear in the text that what's labeled an ep is actually just a segment of an ep. It was only a handful of entries, so it was no big deal ... but was it wasted energy, or of some benefit? |
